Okay, so... my comment will be, massive, so brace for yourself, because I had a lot to talk. In all honesty, I really like how Reclusa was handled, despite some saying they wished for more. The whole fake Mushroom Kingdom simulation segment sold his character to me. Sure, the way it was handled leaves something to be desired, but hear this. From the perspective of story narration, the main theme of the game, and established Mario Lore. First let's talk about Reclusa's characterization, which brings up Zokket, the main villain for the first half of the game, was an emotionless, robotic, no-nonsense, imitating, calculating schemer, who's very bad at memorizing people's names (but if we think about what idea he stood for, it make perfect sense for him to not remember people's names, because relationship is meaningless to him. Therefore, Zokket had no reason to remember names. The Extention Crop ultimately means nothing to him, just pawns to be manipulated.) And Zokket view Reclusa's revival as absolute, hold Reclusa's idea as gospel. Even as Zokket lay defeat, seconds away to die, he doesn't show any remorse, because his goal has been fulfilled, Reclusa is revived, and had no more use of him. Zokket had reached his perfect solitude. Concordia is perhaps days away from reaching it's end, but it doesn't matter if he'll live long enough to see it, as he's not need anymore. Reclusa, despite being the twist mastermind villain that showed at the later half of the game, was everything opposite to what we had seen from Zokket, he's childish, impatient, overconfident, and trollish. Reclusa was a literal man-child, he viewed the world as his playground, his toy to play in any cruel, rough way as he saw pleased. The world is his to throw away when he no longer finds fun toying with it. And when things don't go his way, he throw tantrums like an unruly child. As Mario & Luigi keep overcoming everything Reclusa throwing at them, he grews more irritate, more unhinged. And I'm happy they made him a contrast, it made him more interesting, more memorable. Imagine if Reclusa is just a bigger, badder, more monotone and evil Zokket 2.0? It'll be just boring and uninspiring story telling. Now, the story telling. The whole point of the fake Mushroom Kingdom was to show how Reclusa DOES NOT get the relationships Mario & Luigi had in their life, he does not get why people are being nice and happy to each other, all he knew was that the "perfect ideal world" for each individuals is one where they're spending eternity with people they knew in happiness. He doesn't get relationships. He does not get it. He doesn't get the process each person needs to go through in a relationship, the difference each needs to settle, tolerate, mend, and compromise on, he's so off the mark that he genuinely thinks stuck together in happiness is what a relationship is. The Bros and Snoulet had suspicions inside the simulation, but do not have solid evidence of the strange world around them. The mirrored ? Block do raise suspicion, but not enough to draw a conclusion. Having Toads & Peach around being all happy and nice doesn't get the message through either. It was when Bowser showed up that the Bros finally reacted. Bowser being nice to Mushroom Kingdom is something the bros know should be impossible. And the fake simulation made it hurts all more, because they know it'll never happen. Until the day Bowser finally gets Mushroom Kingdom his conquer way, he'll never stop, nor settled for any other alternative. (In a sense, a really depressing thought if you think about it. Mario, Luigi & Peach all knew deep down, Bowser had some good inside him, but choose not to be good.) Because they know Bowser is someone who do not be "Nice". Bowser is someone who would choose evil at any given turn, any given opportunity, and any given choice. Its not that Bowser can't be nice, it's that Bowser simply chooses to not be nice. And it was only when the bros see Bowser being nice to everyone that they're confirmed that things are off. They finally reacted. And the more irony part is that this fake simulation showed that Reclusa simply DO NOT understand the bros's relationship with Bowser. Perhaps he had read Mario & Luigi's history when simulating their minds, but he does not get any of it, nor understand it. He just see the information he need to creat a world to manipulate the two and hold them in place. Continuing, as the Bros tried to brake away from Reclusa's script, Reclusa took note of how the two react and immediately offer a fix, by having Bowser removed from their "perfect world", he genuinely think that this'll make the two stay. Further more, when the Bros wakes up from Weeping Reclusa's Glohm gas, Reclusa's first reaction was literally: "Really?" As in "Are you for real with me now?" or "Are we really doing this cliche trope now? "sense, dude was utterly baffled. He doesn't understand how some random two mustaches' brotherly bonds is capable of repelling his ultimate solitue energy. And it irritate him to no end. Finally, in the end, as he lay there, defeated, Reclusa still doesn't understand relationship. He died, still not being able to comprehend it. All he could think is that he's denied of his solitude, he's denied of his fun, things didn't go his way, he doesn't understand why he lose. And I think that's a perfectly fine way of use of his character, for a game with a theme that revolved around relationship, having the final villain to be someone who's the embodiment of relationship's antithesis. A solitude, a loneliness. Defeat, battered, still not understanding relationship as his life going off.

@孫其暐5 күн бұрын
@@speedslider3913 I peronally don't have issue with it, but a few of people that I watched stream expressed that WHEN? can they finally start the final boss battle (the pacing of the final section really led something to be desired), so it led me to the impression that perhaps the Mushroom Kingdom section may come off as just a tiny bit of gameplay paddling. It scored excellent story narrating point for what it is, but maybe not gameplay point. (of course, one can just ignore any collectable items and go straight toward the fake Reclusa ? block to push forward the story) Plus, Reclusa showing up is mostly likely a meta 4th wall-breaking iteration with us players, since we watched the whole fake simulation unfold, we knew immediately that things ain't right, but from Mario & Luigi's perspective, they doesn't know that yet, they only had suspicion that things are not right. Because from a story narrating view, the Bros could be spending hours upon hours in the fake world before they finally realize the world around them is fake. So seeing Reclusa there is like a faster confirmation that this world they're experiencing is indeed a fake.

Fun fact: Reclusa refers to himself in Japanese dialect with the self-referring term of 'boku-chin', which is extremely informal, and childish, usually meant for characters who see all their actions as nothing more than a game. Know what other villain used that pronoun who left a massive impact on RPG history? Final Fantasy 6's own psychotic clown god of magic, Kefka Palazzo.

Honestly Reclusa is such a nice change of pace, I like the idea of Zokket having no motivation for anything, so when the true villain is revealed and they are an chaotic screen maniac who sees isolation in your own little perfect world as better than Zokket self made isolation, it is not only crazy but pretty cool, especially with how I knew they were gonnna plug things into the people of Concordia, but I didn’t expect them to do it like that.

@BeanBeanKingdom6 күн бұрын
I got the distinct impression that Reclusa didn't actually want to be all alone and wanted friends, but didn't know how to process it himself and could only lash out. He really wants Mario and Luigi to break through the Soli-Tree's barrier and even contacts Shipshape Island when it's looking like they aren't making progress on that, then he stays in their personalized world to observe and play with them. The Weeping Core is a prickly chestnut he closes himself in a la hedgehog's dilemma. He may have considered them mere playthings, but he wanted SOMEONE to be with him.

I feel like they are trying to set up a second trilogy, akin to the fawful trilogy. The way that the weeping core phase feels almost implies to me that he may have been something crafted, created so to speak. The fact that he is also robotic in nature confirms this to me even more. Basically what im saying is that i wouldnt be surprised if we end up encountering either one of his 'siblings' or even his creator in a future game. Also, the uni-tree planted in the mushroom kingdom could very easily become a major plot point in the future, potentially even allowing for the two worlds to be linked via connectar (we know they are absolutely willing to do this still, seeing as they kept so many references to previous games).

Yeah, I agree with most of what was said here. He's honestly an abomination design-wise... and yet that works perfectly to make him even more memorable. When I first saw him, all I could think is "wtf is that?!" He's just so uncanny and alien and his design is just so chaotic compared to anything else I've seen. However, I actually really like that, because it further adds to his creepiness. His demeanor further adds to his creepiness. He has a somewhat playful personality, which can be seen during that whole fake Mushroom Kingdom part, as it seems like he's just trying to toy around with the bros more than anything. He even speaks in a playful way sometimes, using a sing-song speech pattern at certain points. This is another situation where certain aspects of him clashing with each other actually makes him more memorable. His somewhat playful demeanor is an aspect that's kind of light-hearted, and yet what's he actually trying to do is incredibly disturbing, as detailed in this video. Also, I definitely agree with the whole point about him tying very well into the theming of Brothership and even the series as a whole. He is the antithesis to connections and bonding, which was the whole point of Brothership. As such, he is the perfect foil to the bros and all the other closely connected characters throughout the game. The battle was pretty fun as well. All the different phases added a lot of variety to the fight and him possessing the tree makes the fight much more grandiose compared to other final bosses in the series. It kind of reminds me of the giant battles from the previous games, except he's the only one who's giant, making fighting him feel quite intimidating. Also, the way you repeatedly smack him at the end, dealing tremendous damage each time reminds me a lot of how the final boss in Bowser's Inside Story ended.

Even though I like Zokket so much more as a villian, Reclusa is still a REALLY good villain. Which makes me sad, since he has very little screen time and is probably the most underdeveloped Mario and Luigi villain. Which is sad, since I would've loved to learn more about him and why he hates connections so much. And one thing I like to think about is that the reason why Reclusa has a computer for a head is because it could possibly be a metaphor on how the internet and being online only makes people want to be more alone; which might actually be what being ensnared by those flowers actually means.

He talks about how hard it is to connect with people, hjnting that he might have a reason for his ways. ... @synR-E I really miss the multi-target final bosses. Reclusa was an outright punching bag. At least the Core form had the classic spinning arms attack, but I really wish we got one more super phase after his fakeout attempt, instead of just a finisher sequence. Also wish he appeared earlier in the story, was an entertaining villain to be sure and the illusion segment sold his threat hard. The fight took the air out of him tho. I liked it when M&L final bosses were a MASSIVE difficulty spike over the penultimate boss, unless you knew about meta stuff like Mush Badge. You were absolutely not meant to be able to beat Cackletta or EPS on your first try assuming you're not overleveled, and that's the way it should be.

...Could have sworn I left a massive comment on this video gushing about Reclusa, but I can't find it. That sucks, it was a massive comment, too, and I don't remember everything I said. I suppose I could give the TL;DR gist of what I said here: Reclusa might be my new favorite Mario villain, final battle is like Mario & Luigi vs. Sephiroth if Sephi was replaced by Kefka, the extreme contrast between him and Zokket makes him stand out even more than he already does, he represents a unique take on "loneliness" or rather "isolation" that I don't believe many people think about when it comes to the concept, I find it fascinating that despite saying he wants to be alone, he spends most of his time engaging with the other characters, even if it's just to gloat or torment them, his evil plan is the darkest and most twisted that we've seen out of a Mario villain, at least since the Shroobs, it's interesting how despite the technology theme with his design, his powers tend to come in the form of plants, i.e. the flowers and the Soli-Tree, his origin and backstory are vague in ways that intrigue me and want to speculate on them, his Japanese name is "Botchiāni", a combination of "botchi", which is Japanese slang for "loner", and possibly "ANI", artificial narrow intelligence, which would help explain his incredibly narrow-minded views on isolation and bonds... Yeah, I could go on about this guy for a while. We'll see if that lasts, but until then, he's definitely going to occupy my brain for a bit.

Will I truly become a monster like him? Could I resist my evil half and become a better person? I am currently 19, and I am a big introvert. How could I learn to interact with others? How will I grow up? Can I defeat my inner reclusa?

@speedslider39135 күн бұрын
First off, Ten (Purple Extension Corps member) says something to the effect of "it's fine to want to be alone sometimes, but forcing others to be is bad," and I think that's pretty relevant here as the reason what Zokket/Reclusa's doing is bad, beyond the fact you don't want to hurt people and they do, along with you lacking cable minions and Glohm. Also, as a 21-year old "introvert," don't tie yourself down with labels, especially since you've got a lot of lifetime to grow and change. You can prefer being alone AND find ways to enjoy socializing too; the key is to make bonds with like-minded folks and not become stagnant, as it's hard to appreciate and improve at socializing if you don't get more experience with it.

He’s not JUST entertaining to watch and listen to like Fawful, he’s also ultimately powerful and ruthless like the Dark Star, Shroobs, etc., and I think the best example of that is this is the first game that we see the final phase of the final boss before we fight it. The final boss isn’t Weeping Reclusa or the Weeping Core or like, Glohm Reclusa or anything like that. Reclusa was so close to my favourite villain but oh my god his personality does not match his design, mostly because i found reclusa to be one of the darkest villains ive ever seen… too bad the design doesnt really match it

Reclusa had potential, but went crazy first thing and made a presence for himself off rip, then coasted on it for the last bit of the game and overstayed his welcome once you got to the Mushroom Kingdom AR/VR section. Beating him felt more like a sigh of relief than an accomplishment to me. The ending scenes made up for it tho. Ending was beautiful

Nah, I'd rather have him be on-screen and establish his character and villain status for the big second (and final) act of the game then end up being like FF9's Necron.

I Actually feel like People are only so mixed on this because of IGNs 5. which is sad, Stop listening to bad reviewers over at IGN. They gave Dustborn and concord Higher scores. And those games are GARBAGE!! Without question.
