I was at the Wigan v Bristol Rovers game he talked about and it's absolutely true that the BR players were desperately trying to get another red card in order to have the match abandoned. Often I think these 'after dinner' tales are embellished, but that tale is absolutely true. It was hilarious on the night, watching the ref punish a team by going out of his way to not punish them!

I'm a Wigan fan, was at that game, freezing cold December night, the most ridiculous game of football I've ever seen. Their centre forward was a lad called Peter Beadle, when they went down to 7, they put him at LB seemingly with the express instruction to kick lumps out of David Lee who was our right winger. Plan didn't work as a) he could hardly get near him and b) as Lynch says, he was determined not to send one more of theirs off.
