what about resetting the chip on the cartridge?

Hello James, thanks for Your question. With these original Brother cartridge models resetting the chip is NOT a must. After a cartridge has reached the ink level status EMPTY You can take it out, fill it up with refill ink and place it back into the printer. The printer will ask if You have exchanged the cartridge - what You are going to confirm with Yes. Then the refilled cartridge will be accepted for printing again (without resetting the chip). You will not get ink level status information about this cartridge anymore - but as long as You take care that there is enough ink inside the cartridge physically - no problem. We see this behaviour as quite refill friendly - in our humble opinion. 🙂 There is resetter available for the original Brother cartridges in that tutorial - You can use it if You prefer to have ink level information available for the refilled cartridges. For later cartirdge models Brother has stepped back from that refill friendly behaviour - for later cartridge models the resetter is a must.
