I have only used my 8 gallon stainless as a pot still. I built my own P I D controller and run at minimum heat necessary. I have never done a stripping run, or a double distill. My corn whiskey and my heavy peat smoked Single Malt come out around 125 - 130. I use 2 lightly rolled strips of copper mesh and stop collecting hearts around 100 pf. Keep running til about 10 %, then run tails thru my air still, or add to next batch at distillation time. Lots of fun and I get rave reviews from Scotch lovers on my Single Malt. Love my 8 gal milk can from Mile Hi !! Very well made and the dent I caused during first setup only adds character, lol. I have about 6 1/2 gallons of Single Malt I need to run. Using a 2 gal oak keg, for about 6 months, the stuff is really smooth and tasty ! Thanks guys, Keep up the awesome work ! From Missouri, where home distillation is legal.

That's impressive, my man. Low and slow always wins in this craft. Sounds like if you're running your tails again through an air still or are throwing them back into the next batch, you are doing stripping runs in your own way though. Whatever works for you, keep on shining!

2nd comment, I use a .30 caliber Bore Snake to clean my condenser. Only for the still, not rifles too, lol. It does a great job !!

Would love to see a video discussing how to properly run your reflux still to get the cleanest product

We're currently working on a way to get more actual distilling videos up. Once we work out a solution you'll be seeing a lot more distilling content including how to run our reflux still.

I completely agree with you on the copper vs stainless discussion. By the way, I love my dual purpose pro.

@@abrad3061 that's awesome. I'm happy to be a part of that decision. And, to know that you love your still too is a pleasing bonus. Shine on.

Bo, maybe make a short video about still configurations incorporating a Helmet in the setup pros and cons? Is copper packing necessary if you main components are copper/ Example SS pot copper helmet and does it make a difference funnel up or down, copper are and condenser.

Great idea, man! I'll get it on my video schedule!

I'm still rockin' my Mighty Mini (years now)...it's the perfect size for me as quantity isn't what I'm after. I always use it as a pot still and always double distill. I have used it as a reflux still but found that it would be better if it was a larger still for reflux...My still is perfect for making a couple bottles at a time which is all I need

We love hearing people still using our stills after years because thats what we make them for! Here's to many more years running your mighty mini. Such a fun little still.

Love my 8 gallon dual purpose copper still. Buy the all-inclusive kit well worth the money. I don't regret it one bit. I had more fun with this than anything else. Just need to find more friends to give booz to

I agree there is minimal performance difference between stainless vs copper. Although with the copper mesh in the stainless column you might get a little more passive reflux but it’s probably minimal. The biggest difference is copper is so damn beautiful.
@milehidistilling1 Жыл бұрын
We find it's pretty minimal as well. One roll of copper isn't going to strip too much of anything.
