Hi Phil, Thanks a lot for your question! When a freezer section is too cold, and the temperature in the "fridge" section is normal, it might indicate a problem with the air damper/freezer control. It may be defective, or just adjusted incorrectly, causing it to push more air into the freezer section, and not enough into the fridge section to signal the cold control to turn off the compressor. You should check that the control is operating the damper, and is free from obstruction.

Love the video. I learned a lot. I have an Amana side by side fridge and have already been taken for a ride by a local repair man. Charged me 200 and the freezer still wont freeze and the other part of the fridge is cool but not cold.

This video was extremely helpful in detailing exactly how to replace the bad thermostat in my Kenmore Coldspot.

Thanks for a very clear and concise presentation. The whole thing turned out to be easier than I thought it would.

Thanks for this! Pretty simple after watching this video, but easily would have taken 2-3 times the time otherwise. I'm not handy, but people like you make this better. $40 part from Amazon and after 30 minutes, perfect refrigerator again!

Hi Jon, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Are you still have problems with your refrigerator that you need help in diagnosing, or have you got it figured out? Thanks, and take care!

Very helpful. My fridge would cycle on and may run for a few hours and then I would find that the compressor was not running and the freezer was thawing. I could tap the side of the fridge of the thermostat area and it would work again...then repeat often multiple times per day. I followed your instruction to remove the thermostat panel and now I think the problem was that the ground was not secure. If that is not the problem, now I know how to replace the thermostat as my next step. Thanks

Hi there, Sorry to hear about this. Do you mean the capillary tube snapped completely apart?

Ya. I should have rewatched the video before attempting the install. Is there any way I could solder it back together?

Hello Steve, Great videos. I Have a Whirlpool Gold French Door Refigerator M/N:GX5FHDXVB03 S/N:K02386807 purchased on 6/21/2010. Recently I noticed two things, I don't know if they are related to each other: The Vertical Mullion Rail is very warm to the touch. The freezer, set on the warmest setting is too cold. Any advice on how to procedd would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Have a significant issue! PartSelect no longer ships the original OEM thermostat 198202. It is now a 2198202. The electrical connections are different. They are side by side and have no indicator markings as to which wire should go where. On the original thermostat the connectors were one over the other. How do I connect these?

The thermostat connections are not polarity specific. You can connect either of the two wires to either of the two terminals. The only terminal that is specific is the smaller terminal for the ground wire which is located at the opposite end on the thermostat.
