As a non-American it's just so hard to understand the mindset of US Republicans at times...would that peanut analogy not apply to guns as well that the republicans love so much. Any gun owner on any given day can gun down kids in school, or people in a mall etc, so why not just ban all guns as well!! How can they be against refugees who go through such a ferocious vetting process, yet anyone in the US can just walk into a store a purchase an automatic weapon (ok maybe not automatic but nonetheless a gun) with no vetting whatsoever?
@xenovendeta
@xenovendeta 7 жыл бұрын
Strawman argument. The same could be said about arguing for refugees by saying X kills more people a year. Every time a gun rights advocate brings that argument up Liberals scream they don't care about human rights. Comments like yours are why we have a problem in this country. No one wants to look at both sides. Its either their way or no way when the same arguments can be made both ways. But, sheep will be sheep.
@deniseh8257
@deniseh8257 7 жыл бұрын
What both sides?? The whole world is aware of the risks being taken by letting these refugees into our countries but this is a humanitarian crisis and looking away is not an option. The problem with your country is that you are so quick to blame foreigners and everyone else for your own problems. Tighten those gun laws of yours first then we can talk!

@@vuongdo1401 glad you are doing well. I worked for a security company here in australia that had 3 people who had come over as asylum seekers. One thing I never got was when other workers would make comments about trusting those 3 guys. My point was they risked their lives fleeing their country then risked again getting here only to spend years in a detention centre before being allowed in. I was just born here. That makes them way more trustworthy than me. Wish you and your family nothing but the best.

@Hawkeye183
@Hawkeye183 7 жыл бұрын
Technocracy I dont believe that the laws of a country are an exact representation of the complete morality of its people, no, but that also depends on how you define morality. Also, only because something is not "yet" a law, doesn't mean it cant be already immoral. For example segregation and discrimination against black people in the 40s and 50s was not against the law, yet arguably still immoral. It just took time to realize that for the lawmakers and change the law accordingly. I would argue that, by my standards atleast, turning away people fleeing war and terror in a region that my country played a big role in destabilizing in the first place, damning them to certain death unless someone else deals with them, is highly immoral. Thats why countries like Germany actually do have laws for accepting refugees fleeing from war or political/religious persecution. Maybe the US is just not quite at that point yet...
@Hawkeye183
@Hawkeye183 7 жыл бұрын
The problem is that, as you made clear, morality itself is a pretty complex concept, so it is difficult to make all those assumptions. I believe that everybody has their own set of beliefs of what is morally right or wrong. And all those individuals make up our society and, as you explained, decide what moral guidelines are to be implemented as laws. But as I stated before, that doesn't mean every moral decision has already been thought through, discussed and voted on by the people that make up society. So to bring this back to the original subject, I can only offer my personal view, which I already explained is that the US have a moral obligation to take in a decent amount of refugees because of their role in the whole conflict and because I believe that its a humane thing to do. Some people in the US might share this view, others wont. But thats the whole point, to decide if the US as a country have a responsibility and then to act on that (make laws, if necessary). That still doesn't mean that the decision will represent the morality of the people though, as some might vote against taking in refugees even if they think it would be the morally right thing to do, if they're honest to themselves. Because theyre scared, bigots, sociopaths, uncomfortable with strange cultures, anything. The bottom line is, I dont believe that the laws of a country accurately represent the morality of the society, I think that it is a version of that morality, distorted by feelings like fear, anger and self-righteousness. To be honest I believe that this topic is far too subjective to have an actual constructive debate about that would lead to anything else but spamming walls of text under a satirical youtube video, but I appreciate the input.

Hey John, Congratulations toyou and your entire team on your Emmy win. You have been a so so important to so many of us worldwide in the last two years. To put things into context, I watch and rewatch all your shows everytime I have lunch in office. Everyday. It makes me laugh on the toughest of days. Its a small help, you mete out to me and millions like me. And you deserve every success and happiness that comes your way. You have opened up a new genre of entertainment, which has the news in it. And its so bloody important. As an Indian its tough to understand the problems people face in other countries, and your way of tabling things really really helps us form a much more informed opinion. Thank you. And the reason I am typing this, aside the fact that I worship you and what you do is Kashmir. India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads on this issue since 1947. Thousands have and continue to die including the the evry recent Uri attacks. Please please please do include this in your content whenever it seems fit. I feel the whole world needs to know about this and there is no one better to say it than one of the sexiest men alive in 2015, according to the Rolling Stones magazine. Just kidding. No one better than the currently the best journalist/ stand up comic in the world. You. Congratulations again. Hope you read this soon. Thank you. :)

+DONALDO TRUMPU Britain's only accepted around 9,000 refugees so far, more than a third of which, I'm proud to say, in Scotland. We are as safe a country before accepting the refugees than before. As for Sweden and Germany very few (if any reported cases of violence/ terror) has been traced to refugees instead largely it tends to be European citizens that are radicalised. Don't forget millions of Syrian citizens are seeking refuge. Most of them ordinary, and in many cases highly qualified, individuals. While a backlash from the political right is evident it can mostly be blamed, in my opinion, on media hype.

Assimilation The process by which a person or persons acquire the social and psychological characteristics of a group. Imperialism: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. If the refugees are entering their country for refuge, there is no extension of the country receiving them. The refugees are moving into their realm of influence. So, in fact, the people seeking refuge and refusing to assimilate are indeed extending their own power over their new home.

Hi everyone :) Just wanted to mention something - as a young French citizen, I can tell you France is *not* a country of freedom at the moment. People from ethnic minorities are discriminated against; racism and xenophobia are growing - you might have heard of the "Front National", a party that is renowned for its harsh policy plans to tackle immigration and for denying the jewish genocide of WW2-, it's getting harder and harder to go on the streets to protest, because police abuses and freedom restrictions have never been so strong... The authorities and the media are trying to build an obsession around security, setting us apart rather than uniting us together. I have never been so ashamed of my country, and of EU policies altogether; François Hollande might have said that we'd welcome refugees, truth is, we still let them die in the Mediterranean sea with the greatest indifference and when they eventually manage to settle in France, they are being treated as second-class citizens and labelled as potential threats. I wish we the people could have our say and make this politic bullshit come to an end, stop these wars and finally leave at peace with one another...

They grew afraid for their own safety, and self preservation is greater than generosity of others" "But what were they afraid of? Aren't they the ones running away?" "Yes they were, most if not all were families and people who had nothing left, and would die if they stayed. Unfortunately, it was a time where even the threat of possible 'terrorism' was enough to make people cry out in fear. The threat of the act was almost as damaging as the act itself. It speaks volumes about islamic "empathy" that the petrobillionaires of Qatar, Dubai etc. don't give a flying fuck about their supposed brothers and sisters in faith and yet expect Europe, the U.S. and the rest of the world to take in all refugees, all the while criticizing the west for being "decadent". The silence of these wealthy arab countries on the immigrant "crisis" is also worthy of attention, but don't expect Oliver or any of his pals (Colbert, etc.) to dedicate a single segment looking into this. They're here to push the immigrant "crisis" agenda. But when the next islamic terrorist attack happens you can bet they'll all be "in utter shock and our hearts go out to the victims and their families". Until that time it's all #refugeeswelcome and shit. Disgusting and retarded, if not downright Machiavellian.

It is sad what's happened to Canada, a country that once had a strong coherent national identity but under Trudeau the younger you are actively trying to get rid of this. I lived for a time in Canada but now back in Europe and you do not want what we have regarding Islam. Trudeau stands for nothing. Ask whether you want to end up like Sweden and surely it is a simple answer, no!

Don't you dare talk badly about Justin Trudeau, he's the best Prime Minister we've had in the last 30 years. And I would know, I've been alive for most of those 30 years. Do some research before you start bashing on our Prime Minister, he's nothing like his father.

All of the facts about the vetting process are true, I've been going through these procedures for the past 3.5 years. But I can't help but feel like the "1% being recommended for resettlement" is too little of a number, but I could be wrong. Thanks John for shedding some light on the subject!
