"Big Shot Bob" is living testament of Red Auerbach's adage: "It doesn't matter how many points you'd scored. It's how you scored the points." He made the most of being the recipient of double-teaming caused by his all-star teammates. On one end, MJ23 enjoyed the best of both ends: Scoring in bundles plus the game-changing (if not the game-winning) shot.

Bill Laimbeer's HOF resume. Final Four at Notre Dame, the only one they ever had. NBA rebound champion. 2nd best rebounder in the 1980s. Better than 80 percent shooting at the FT line for a center. Long consecutive games played . Great outside shooter for a big man. 3 NBA Finals. 4 time All Star. 2 time NBA champion. 5 times coached a team to the WNBA Finals. 3 time WNBA champion. 2 time best record in WNBA. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. I am a black man and there is no way Ben Wallace should have made the Hall of Fame before Bill Laimbeer. The only stats Ben beat Bill in is blocks and steals, Laimbeer beats him in every other area. Laimbeer averaged close to a double-double for his career at 12.9 pts/ 9.7 rebs a game. Laimbeer could still get you a double-double until the last couple of years when his minutes were cut by almost 10 min. a game and his mobility wasn't the same. Laimbeer could play in any era and was excellent in his own. We have to start putting some respect on these other guys' names. MJ, Magic, Bird, and Dr. J were not the only great players to pick up a basketball in the last 75 years.

People forget that the whole Bad Boys thing came about because Isaiah and Dumars were constantly getting mugged and never getting calls. Look at the way McHale and Parish used to go after them in those Eastern conference playoffs and regular season games. Parrish and McHale were just as big of goons as Mahorn and Lainbeer. Then Detroit realized they were never going to get any respect from the league because the league wash pushing Magic vs Bird and then Jordan became the golden boy. So the Pistons got physical and took what they were due.

People forget the alpha on that team was Mahorn He had a bruising style. Remember the original bad boys were Mahorn and Jeff Rulsnd Washington bullets. With Greg Ballard the other forward they were known as the “bruise brothers.” In Detroit Mahorn had a new bruise bro in John salary bill lambeer and Yvon Joseph along with Dennis Rodman was an improved version of the “ bruise brothers 2.0 with a new monicker the “ bad boys.” The bad boys start with Mahorn make no mistake and you notice players from that era bird, Jordan will call out lambeer but not the alpha, the leader Rick Mahorn. Probably for a very good reason. He would visit them. And say he was just being “friendly.” The original bad boy always had a way with words when he did speak. But Mahorn & ruland was absolutely beasts in the first incarnation in Washington. Never forgot the bruise brothers. 🤐🤭

@@darylshackelford3673 haha well I know you probably don't like Draymond...but I have bad news for you: he is going to end up in the Hall of Fame. The fact of the matter is that the basketball Hall of Fame is really the Hall of Very Good (and sometimes not even that) and is far too easy to get into. Draymond is a 4 time All-Star, 7 time All Defense, a Defensive Player of the Year and played on 4 championship teams. As far as the basketball HOF goes...that's more than enough. And Robert Horry is not even close to being in the same league (despite what Robert Horry thinks). He is a zero time all-star, zero time All-anything, has zero individual awards...and for long stretches of his career wasn't even a starter. I have watched every NBA finals since 1965 and I think lambeer had to play dirty because he was a shitty player .Draymond can dribble and drive. Lambeer could not. He could not block a shot so people drove to the bucket on him. Watch all the dunks on him. Secondly, he was flat footed and had no post game. All he had was a shot and as far as rebounding all you had to do was turn you r back and block out. Most of his rebounds were on the defensive side of the ball. Offensive rebounds are much harder. He could not guard anyone today. There are so many better and more mobile centers. I would have loved to see him try to pull his shit on Willis Reed. He would have kicked Lambeer's ass. Reed was better at every aspect of the game and also had a wonderful outside shot. Lambeer got his just reward. He is not in the HOF(no one rewards a thug). He did not get a coaching job. Hearing Patrick say Laimbeer was a much better player made my stock in his basketball opinion drop by miles. Only a good offball defender??? He stopped Shaq with the ball in the post and was quick enough to switch if they wanted. And "maybe" rebounding??? One of the best rebounders the game has seen. Like reg said maybe Laimbeer was more skilled offensively but defensively and rebounding wise it's not even close. The idea Laimbeer is a "much better player" is ludicrous bordering on asinine.

Lambeer averaged 9.7 rebounds. Wallace 9.6..Lambeer 13 points Wallace 6. Hey I loved both. But Lambeer wasn't sleeping on Defense. He was instrumental in Portlands collapse at home. With their Bigs being to agitated and not focused. Lambeer and the Pistons would have beaten Wallace and his Pistons. Had more talent and a better 1 /2 centers. James Edward's was pretty good. You think the Celtics were alter boys? The 80" were the best time for NBA. Because of team and frankly toughness. One on one. Teaming up like LeBron does. Basketball has been ruined by BS since. Draymond Green is a throwback. Now anyone who uses his physicality is a goon. Which is so dumb.

The late 80's NBA was a tough man's league. Most teams tried to have a player that acted as an enforcer: Parrish for the Celtics come to mind. But teams other than the Pistons delegated that role to a single player. ALL the Pistons bought into that roll. It is just that Lambeer did it better than all the rest. Dirty? I don't know. If you do game films and know the guy is going to foul you hard if you come into the paint, and he does, why would you take offense to that. Play a different style to beat him out of his realm. Play outside away form him. Set plays to draw him out from the paint. You know, use your head to beat him. Like Lambeer was doing to your game. He played the game within the then current rules. Then the rules changed, and Jordan got to have his day. Lambeer deserves to be in the HOF for what he accomplished with the Pistons. He deserves a plaque in the HOF for his coaching also.

Big Game Bob averaged not 8 ppg - he averaged 7 ppg for his career. Also 4.8 rpg. His best single season, he averaged 12.0 ppg for Houston, starting all 71 games he played that season. His best rebounding season, he averaged 7.5 rpg for the Lakers. Laimbeer averaged 12.9 ppg and 9.7 rpg for his entire career, with several seasons averaging around 17 ppg and 12 rpg. Horry totaled 7,715 career points and 5,269 career rebounds - Laimbeer totaled 13,790 career points and 10,400 career rebounds. Laimbeer almost doubled Horry's career totals, playing in fewer games than Horry did, because Laimbeer was a starter for his entire career, while Horry was mostly a role player that came off the bench. I personally don't think EITHER should be in the HOF on their stats - Laimbeer played on a title-winning team and had a major role getting that team to it's 2 titles. Not just from one shot a game, but for the majority of games. He is miles ahead of Horry in deserving the HOF......

The basketball HOF makes no sense -- Bill Laimbeer not being in there shows it's a political game and Laimbeer wasn't a politician or trying to get people to like him; showing you it has nothing to do with basketball. Laimbeer and Vinnie Johnson should be in the Hall of Fame. No way Ben Wallace could be effective as a player guarding Kareem, Robert Parish, McHale, Ewing, Moses Malone, etc... Ben Wallace was good vs. Shaq because Shaq was out of shape and limited at the foul line so he couldn't really punish you with his skills over 48 minutes, just brute force, which was Wallace's strength. You should never compare Ben Wallace with Bill Laimbeer because Laimbeer was the first stretch-4 who was clutch at the foul line, a better passer, and better in the pick-and-roll situations.
