I would like a solid mobile kit for doing portraits outside with kids. We go to a bunch of parks and historic areas, and I have been trying to find the smallest, easiest kit, that gives good fill lighting while properly exposing the background, that I want in the photo in the first place. Small enough to be easy, but strong enough to work outside...is the tough part. Side note, I feel like the battery didn't need to upgrade, I feel like the battery in the ii was so good.

For me personally the battery sucked for wedding photography. It constantly overheated and now that problem is resolved.

Sorry new to flash here, why does this one say v860iii C and the other one has An F ? What is the difference between the two?
@frankiecalabro26172 жыл бұрын
The v860iii has the modeling light shooting straight on, because it’s better for low light events to assist the camera in attaining focus quickly, giving the photographer the ability to still bounce the light. The v1 can’t do that unless you point the flash directly at the subject. That’s why the 860iii is the perfect low light event flash!!!
@Reggiebphoto2 жыл бұрын
That isn’t a modeling light then. It’s an af assist light

@@Reggiebphoto exactly! I think the wording is incorrect, either way what a great innovation for event photographers in crappy low light like I see at a lot of my events.

6:28 - just wanna say this sold it for me. Despite me being a Sony user your video was the only one that I’ve seen so far to actually show how the shape of the beam is different on a blank surface rather than always on a person / subject. I saw that Magmod2 is out for V1 users at the same price - initially like your video at the time of it posted, the fact that magmod didn’t have accessories for V1 made me lean to the 680iii. Thank you for your awesome comparison video, I really liked it and helped me a lot 🥰

Here in Sweden you can buy V860II for 159 $ and V860III for 274 $, almost half the price. I have had the V860II for 3 years, and I have never had any problems, neither with it getting overheated or the battery running out or the hotshoe breaking. So so far it is not worth an upgrade.

It's much better that the "modeling lamp" is facing forward. This way if your mirrorless camera can't focus due to super dark lighting conditions you can turn that on so the camera can lock focus. If you're bouncing the flash and the light was on the head then it wouldn't work as a good focus assist beam.
@Reggiebphoto Жыл бұрын
that would be an af assist lamp, not a modeling lamo. all I'm trying to say is let's define the actual function of the light to be accurate to what it is designed for.

Yes, you are right. I don't see it as a modeling lamp at all. It's to assist while focusing. If it were intended as a modeling lamp it would be located as close as possible to the flash tube. Also it would have to follow the illumination angle. Useless otherwise. Just my opinion ion of course.

I think it's a mistake that Godox advertises that light as a modeling light. It should be just called a video light for hybrid users. That way if you happen to shoot both photos and videos you can have one unit on the camera for both purposes. I find the "modeling" light "advantage" of being on the flash head on the V1 useless as such because it is pretty weak to make any difference once you point it away from the subject. Again, it only makes sense if it is used as a video light.

For a canon shooter, its perfect for low light situations where the new mirrorless system, doesn't allow AF assist beams from Speedlight's, so in dark clubs etc, this is so handy for assisting in focusing. I don't use direct flash, so putting the lamp inside the flash from facing doesn't work, having it below means whether you front face or bounce the flash, you have the lamp there on the lower end of the body if you need it. I've had to use torches to assist with focusing, thats how bad the R6ii is in low light.

@Reggiebphoto2 жыл бұрын

I will explain why the modeling light is better placed on the v860iii. You wondered and couldn't explain it to yourself. If you shoot it towards the ceiling, then the modeling light on v1 is useless. If the flash head is not pointed at the model then why would you need the modeling light? Most of them pull it upwards and use diffusion, then again it makes no sense to put it on the head. You shoot the flash directly at the model, is that how you always shoot?
@Reggiebphoto2 күн бұрын
A modeling light is supposed to “model” and simulate the expected flash output. Call it a flash light then or some other name.

Thanks for the video! Very useful! I was curious if anyone knew whether Godox made an adapter for the V860 to fit V1 accessories. My guess would be no since that would cannibalize sales, but worth asking. Thanks :)

I've more bad experience with V1 hot-shoe compared to 860 ii hot shoe on Sony A7riv and A7iii

3:15 Seriously? What tiny LED light is going to be so powerful, that it is going to model a bounce strobe light off a ceiling? It makes no sense, to expect that. It's just a tiny video light. For a quick movies while your flash is on your camera.

got this one. but the unit is acting weird. It's changing it's mode on it's own, even if i turn off the TTL 🤣

I have the V1 and the V860iii. The V860iii is a way better flash for so many reasons. The fact that the V1 is round is a joke.

Gotta say, I left right at 1:30 because... you literally don't have a power comparison for a review video comparing flashes?

Cool. It’s literally listed on the guide numbers. You don’t need a review to tell you those specs

@@Reggiebphoto I see you take criticism of your content really well. I'm sure you've learned a lot about what consumers may find off-putting in your videos or what critical information you may lack. I know you'll take it to heart instead of being butthurt and defensive. I just know it.
