It is wonderful to discuss salaries. Employers love it when the pay is secret because then they can pay people less money. Being open and honest can help people get they pay they deserve.

Don’t pay attention to people judging you for saying how much you make. The people who make it such a secretive thing are old in their ways and have negative mindset. It doesn’t make anyone any less classy for saying how much they make. It’s transparent and helps a lot of people know if they truly want to pursue a career in the medical field.

Crikey, well done! The pay for a nurse in England~ particularly one fairly new to the industry~ is not even half that salary. Crazy to think how little nurses in England are rewarded, but happy you're paid properly. Most nurses are incredible & deserve to be handsomely rewarded ❤

Missed seeing your videos!! I’m currently doing my prerequisites for nursing school and your videos are so motivating. If there is a low census and you’re working your assigned shift can you still be sent home? And does it affect your pay? Thanks!
@taylercornelius9011
@taylercornelius9011 6 ай бұрын
Yes, at least in the ER where I work if there is low census then you can be sent home even if you didn’t pick it up as an extra shift. And then you would get paid less than usual, as you would not be paid for the time you aren’t working. HOWEVER, that rarely happens because there are always people who want to go home early that day, and even if u do have to go home you can use your PTO or floating holiday pay so it’s no big deal. That being said, since starting in the emergency room I have never had to go home early unless I requested to.

With rent being so high in many areas, that is pretty good. To get a nice apartment in the Northwest is approx 2500 minimum and let alone all other expenses that have gone up with inflation. I'm in Florida and its not uncommon to see billboards for homes starting at 800k.

What is your hourly pay, then? WOW that is crazy good money. I have been an RN for almost 8 years and I am working in the ER as well… and my base pay is 52.50 or something like that and then I get 4/hr for night shift and 2/hr for weekends. So I make 56.50 or 58.60 an hour which is actually pretty good I thought. I’m in Minnesota. But, I usually take home anywhere from 2500 to 3500 every 2 weeks or 5,000 to 7,000 a month so I think we make a similar amount. I guess you did pick up 2 extra shifts though, lol I NEVER work more than 72 hours a pay period/36 hours a week.

@taylercornelius9011
@taylercornelius9011 6 ай бұрын
Oh that’s why you are paid so well as a new grad… OREGON! lol between Oregon, Washington, and California those are the highest paying states for nurses. Then there are places like Colorado where I just moved from where cost of living is just as high as those states but nurses get paid only half. Moved to Minnesota and cost of living is the same as Colorado and I actually got a 15 dollar an hour pay raise. Yes that is true… if you want a Cush schedule you generally sacrifice on pay. But that’s why nursing is such an awesome career field to go into… something for everyone! I would/could never do home health I think I would be way too bored. I also don’t think I would want to do pediatrics.

What I earned as a nurse 40 years ago is nowhere close to what new nurses make. It helped me always help my family so I am grateful I always had work. Also big differences in different parts of the USA. I had to work rotating shifts 8 hours 6 weeks each, every other Fri Sat Sun Mon. My base pay was 9.85/hr with a BSN. I.50 night differential, 0.75 weekend Friday and Saturday after midnight. There WAS a nursing shortage not many foreign students going into nursing. I was hired into ICU/ transplant unit so was very grateful for extremely thorough classes and clinical training. Thats why it does not help to talk about pay. It cannot and will never be the same to expect. Definitely not a profession I went into for the big bucks.

That is a very old fashioned ideology. That’s why employers were able to screw a lot of people out of proper pay because everyone was so hush hush about stuff. Also she’s sharing things about nursing. When I was in nursing school I would’ve loved to have someone tell me the details of things. I didn’t know all that much BECAUSE of ideas like yours. People go to school for years just to not know what they may make after graduation? Stupid. Your generation is the same one that complains about kids going to college then not knowing how they’re gonna survive after since everyone is so secretive.

Yea it’s another generation alright lol. I don’t think it’s a big deal for her to share earnings for a month. Statistics vs hearing it from an actual nurse. I appreciated this information.
