This really resonated with me. At 51yrs of age...I feel in my soul that this is my future way of life. Finding the courage to just "do it" and screw the fears...is the hardest part for me. I have two children that just started college. I just moved from my 3 bedroom townhouse that was killing me financially. Kids are gone so I thought, this is my time. Now I am feeling the urge to make this happen. Thank you for your story. Thank you for your vulnerability. I am so grateful I found you on KZbin.

Make sure you have the complete skill set first. Just like living in a house. It's not just buying a sofa and carpet, there are things that need doing that are not fun too. You can't always rely on the goodwill of others to get you through. Take an evening class in basic car maintenance and at 'least' be able to fix a flat!

Hi Beth, I know how you feel. I have been thinking about joining the many nomads that are roaming the country now. As one of the replies to this message said, take a car maintenance class, which is a good idea. I think for those of us, I'm 58, who has worked for years to establish a stable, and structured life. Taking off and leaving all of that behind can be challenging, but not impossible. I would recommend checking out RV, or Vanlife groups on Facebook (I cringe typing that). The people (many in our age group) in these groups communicate, asking and answering questions about Vanlife?RV life. My plan is prep myself, purge and store what's worth keeping. Then in the spring, hit the road. I wish you the best!

I’m an old fart , followed my dream in 2005 after I met the love of my life. I left / sold everything an went on the journey. Good times bad times, emotional roller coaster etc etc. lost the love of my life due to a split decision and a bullet that took her away. At first I wanted to join her and do the same, but I couldn’t because of my other love, my daughter. I felt completely lost, amputated from everything that I dreamt of and worked so hard for. I was able to pickup the piece but empty inside, no goal etc just surviving to keep afloat. Than I had health issues that I ignored for various reasons, after major surgery and complications I can’t work no more. Your story brought memories and emotions that talked about and experience. Traveling in my early days thought me so much about myself, life and what it takes. If I was younger I absolutely would have taken the road you follow now. I’m on my own for many years and get along with myself most of the time, besides the pitty parties. Take it from me your on the right path doing the right thing for you and your doggie . Thnx for sharing your awesome.💕🤘🏻

I have been watching your videos from when you had your first bus and you were getting ready to sell it. I enjoy all your videos but I especially enjoyed this one about your life how it all started and how it’s going up until this day. My pipe dream for years has been when I get ready to retire next year is to travel around and enjoy each state that I wanna go to, enjoy the beauty and just to sit out and look at the ocean or the mountains and just take in the nature. I think would be so awesome. I have been dreaming for over 20 years about doing this lifestyle traveling around. You inspire me and give me inspirational to do that. Keep up the videos and I can’t wait till Sunday to see your videos. God bless you!

I understand completely. I too am now an old fart, cancer took my wife a few years ago. No kids or family to help get though it. When the love of your life dies, and that is horrible enough, the life you had dies with them. You are left with nothing. All the plans, hopes, dreams....your purpose in life....gone. People that have not experienced such a loss simply can not understand how empty life can become in the span of a last breath. I'm too old to start over a third time, and frankly the thought of lying beside anyone but my wife at night gives me the creeps. So I'm currently building a rig, will be selling the house in a couple years and travelling until I get too old to take care of myself. No idea what will come after that.

To Joel.....Like you, I watch all of Lyssa's videos. I'm happily married to an "old fart". Wonder if that makes me a "Fartessa"? So.... married to this guy for over 70 years (we are in our 90's)....obviously, we are on the downhill slope, right? Naturally, we have gained some wisdom along the way. I think what we enjoy in watching Lyssa's journey...is her ability to search.. and reveal.... what it takes others a lifetime to find....if ever. My only explanation is that she is an "old soul" in a beautiful young mind. Obviously, she is helping so many others, while on her own journey. Wish we could stick around and watch where she goes with this. My heart goes out to you for losing your lifes partner. Too soon I will share in your experience. I dread that day. All good comforts to you. *Recliner Babe*... and her Handsome Prince

So much of your story resonated with me. From moving around constantly as a child, always being the new girl at school, and not having a stable place to call home or go back to later in life. My imagination and writing were/are my therapy as well. I also went to Africa for the first time during college, and I lost a friend to cancer at 27, that really shook my worldview. I converted and moved into my first van in 2017 and it was so hard to find good how to information on conversions back then. I also stumbled into the road lifestyle out of necessity and started filming my journey as a video diary that ended up helping me sustain the lifestyle for a few years. Anyway, a lot has changed in my life since then, just got married to a guy I met on the road and we live off grid on 5 acres now. I rarely share my story, raw emotions or writing in video format these days, but watching your videos always inspires me to get back into it. So thank you.

We do our best and keep moving forward, right? I’m not going to stop trying lots of different things just because somebody may make fun of me or think I’m a doofus! I’m 65 and recently retired, and I’ve been toying with the idea of a small bus conversion for a few years now. My sisters are horrified, but it fits with my rolling stone spirit. My last child at home just got married and will be moving to Canada as soon as his visa comes through (we’re in California), and then I may do this. (Too bad the prices are so much higher after Covid!) Thanks for inspiring so many people. (And I’m happy that you found Ben!)💕

This is a really great video. I truly appreciated your honesty at the end where you make it clear that even though you seemed to have found confidence in yourself as well as purpose, you still don't have things all figured out, that it's not an easy lifestyle, etc., but that it seems right for you. I love that you didn't romanticize it. I find it interesting that so many of you, (I follow a few others living this life), after several years on the road, eventually feel the need to find a piece of land to create a more permanent home base. Your journey has been pretty incredible thus far and you should be proud of all that you have accomplished as well as the courage that it has taken to get here.

Wow... Awesome story! I felt the same way you did when you graduated from college only mine was a little earlier when I graduated from high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do so I got on the so-called "escalator" with all the other ducks I knew and found myself in a row not knowing how to get off the escalator. That probably sounds funny but that's how I felt. After going through the meat grinder of the finance industry with all the trimmings that went along with it I discovered that that best job I ever had was mowing grass when I was putting myself through college. It's funny when I realized that I was the only one that could get me out of the box that I so neatly wrapped myself in. I realized that leaving the box wasn't my issue, but going towards something would be my source of inspiration. I went and got a pilot's license, skydived bought a motorcycle and became a free spirit. The little boy in me finally came alive and I discovered who he (I) really was (am). Life is meant to be lived, not tolerated. Be true to yourself, you're the only one that can or will. You have a knack of storytelling in a colorful adventurous way. I can see that you're artistic. Your KZbin channel is the product, and you are the process. It matches well together.

Hi, just a reminder of the Earth's children book series by Jean M Auel. Even though it plays of in the prehistoric era, the story is about a girl Ayla who has to find herself, survive and grow to become who she was meant to be. It starts with the Clan of the Cave Bear and I think it would definitely resonate with you as she struggles, overcomes adversity, learns and ultimately conquers. Even though it is a story it reads more like a biography of her life (even though fictional). it was published in 1980 and it is one of the best written book series I have come across. I read the Ayla series many years ago. From what I recall, it was a great pre history imagination of what life could have been like. I enjoyed the progressive story line. I haven’t followed Alyssa’s travels, so I’ll defer commenting on her connection to Alta.

To the dear sweet Alyssa. Some of those things you have left behind you were enough to cause headaches and depression to many people but you have come out the other end as a marvelous young woman. You are an inspiration to many. You are beautiful, intelligent, charismatic, well spoken and at peace with the world in a positive way. I think that most of your viewers would love to give you a big hug just to show our appreciation of what you have been able to do with your life, I know I sure would like to. Whether you know it or not you have been blessed. Are you still in touch with your grandmother, it sounded like she really cared about what happened to you. I shed a tear in writing this. If you ever decide to come as far north as Alberta in Canada I would love to give you that big hug just to let you know that there are many people that care for you and what happens to you. And I should not forget Rio.

Aw Ray thank you so much for this sweet comment! Sending you a big hug through the internet. Yes, I am still in touch with my grandma! I am so so lucky to have her, and am not sure where I would be without her. Sending love from Rio and myself. Thank you for being here Ray.

@@REGRETLYSS I am very happy to be here and to be watching your beautiful videos about your journey. I am not one of those macho guys that thinks they are god's gift to females and am actually the opposite as I am always kind and caring to all females and wishing them all the best life they can have. What ever happens to you in the future I hope it will be for the best.

I don’t know exactly how I arrived at your KZbin channel. I am a follower of several bushcraft channels and was searching for something about a month ago. It must have been or close to being one of your keywords because one of your videos popped up. It was when you had entered New Mexico after leaving Arizona. I have enjoyed your vids but this video has clarified for me why you are doing bus life. Your journey is helpings others as you are helping yourself…that is what I call a win-win all the way around.

I came across your videos awhile back. The blue bus was a common site on the road for me. Once I saw it in your videos, I realized it's role in your life. I've moved 27 times before the aged of 32. So I can understand some of your youth. And I can understand the role of a home. I sensed something special about ol blue. To see it carry your journey through life helps me feel connected to your story. As well as your inner growth has given me strength in myself to make decisions for my best interests. I am grateful to have found your story. To have shared some of your wisdom and grace. Your honesty is refreshing and transparent. I wish the world was filled with beams of light as bright as yours. Thank you. Shine your light to heal others.

Hello. I'm Michelle. I just discovered your channel probably through Nomadic Movement and I'm thankful you shared your story. Your warm spirit is a breath of fresh air in the online space. Parts of your journey resonate with me so well. I'm excited to see the transformation with your new home, although I love it the way it is... so unique and charming, it's perfect... but also nice to put one's own personal touches, I get it. So inspiring!!! Enjoy... blessings!!! :)

I just found your channel and... wow ! So nice to see a real human with the heart connected to the soul. You have everything : a nice dog, a nice bus, a nice image, a nice sound and you are a good storyteller. You know that 100k in 1 year is a success. And, to end, thank you for sharing your good vibes, I am sure a lot of people need that, need to recontact their inner child, their goal. Hello from Belgium, Bye.

Working for a company that offered benefits and show they would take care of you, (health care, dental care, fund matching savings, retirement; all were part of showing up at a location 5-days a week). Pretty much is history today, (employees are on their own). Management used to be helpful and developing work-skills through training. When downsizing of work forces, automation, off shore manufacturing; the employment environment changed to a; “we no longer want *many* employees feeling”. Smart choice in finding your independent way of support, through the rough life moments. Congrat.’s 🎉

I've always wondered how folks like you exist. I now see how you wander looking for everything that I've had my whole life and have taken it for granted. Home , Family, Purpose. I enjoy watching your journey but at the same time feel sorry for you because you don't have what I've always had. I pray that you will find these 3 things on your journey because they will definitely ground you in contentment when you find them. If you ever pass through northeast Texas and need to have a place to park your bus safely, hit me and my wife and 4 dogs up. I have plenty of land for you to unwind a day or two. Happy Travels ❤️ 🤠👍

I am honored like everyone else to be invited into your reality. Throughout these videos, your growth has been remarkable. I see that the creator of all things in this life seen and unseen is your aura., And it is that which keeps you safe throughout all of your journeys past and into your future. I’ll wrap this up by saying the spirit that looks out from behind your eyes shines brightly, continually take care of yourself.. during those days when it’s most needed, but rarely herd from one human being to another, I love you

What we love about you is that you are so authentic and heartwarming to watch. I have been watching your channel from the start. I was not aware of your previous travels, and that was nice to see. And OMG, you were so adorable as a child. Those videos were sweet. Stay strong, and I look forward to seeing more of your travels and your next endeavor with buying land to build a home. And keep sharing your wisdom with us throughout your journey.

Awesome story. I have seen some of you travels in the past. Love that you said it is not easy and every day is somewhat a struggle and I can relate. Went through a divorce 4 years ago after living four years separate and apart in the same house. One top of that I got diagnosed with a respiratory condition caused by Asbestos 7 years ago. I did a kayak fishing trip to Florida and found I didn’t need a rescue inhale 4-6 time a day. Did a few trips back and each time within 24 hours I could breathe. My doctor recommended get a service dog and train it for me and that I move to Florida. My company allowed me to work remotely two years before COVID. So I work remotely, retired from the military and am a 100 percent disabled veteran. I have since moved to Fl, bought a Belgian Malinois before the move, trained her as service dog and got another pup 6 months later. I needed to live life and my pups are part of my life. Have picked up some jet skis and trained the pups to ride with me. If I fall in they bring me back to the skis. I recently went on FB market place and got a pop up topper for my Tacoma. Ordered what I wanted to set it up with and my son, daughter in law and myself put it all together. We just got back from a camping trip in Marathon Fl and stayed on the beach at a state Park. The set up was awesome and survived 90+ degree heat in search of lobsters. My goal is to camp up North and do my third year hunting alligators in Fl then in the fall and winter head out west for a long road trip. Life is short enjoy life while you can. Love watching your pup throughout the video. Plan to hit TX, OK, NM, AZ, CO and ID if all goes as planned. Stay positive and enjoy life.

I stumbbled accross you and immediately related to that lost feeling. My big problem is that I was instilled with the idea of giving back, to society, the earth, to somehow leave something that mattered, that helped....you can see I don't even know this feeling. I will say a prayer for you to succeed in your journey. Wish I had seen this 9 months ago, but it is. P.S. stay safe and you have a new subscriber.

Huge Kudos! 👏 Started my evening scrolling thru KZbin videos, found yours, (actually the vid worst date ever) and subscribed. I think it’s important that people pay attention to the last part where you talk about the difficulties of this type of life. So many mainstream folks think vanlifers are just off playing while everyone else works and it’s just not true. Unless you’re born rich, you’re going to have to do something to live; this is just another way of surviving. Great vid!

I just found your channel. I'm going through a transition in my life. I lost my mother to dementia a year ago, my father is 80 and we've never been close. I'm fearful of losing my home (long story), and it would be difficult to live a traditional life, for now. I've considered living in an RV and taking it from there. Taking things 1 day at a time, saving up for a new life. This video has helped given me an alternative to consider, because life is too short and I don't want to regret what 'could have been.' Just subscribed.
