Your formula is as follows: 1) You make a sarcastic comment 2) Acoustic intro 3) formally introduce car 4) say some of the obvious facts about the car 5) makes ridiculous comment with deep 'merican voice 6) talks about numbers 7) explains history of car 8) makes another comment I wouldn't dare let my mother hear 9) talks about who the car is for/feel of the car 10) makes an almost poetic conclusion that often portrays a sense of nostalgia that hugely contradicts the mood of the rest of the video.. but it fits somehow anyway.

I'm 72 and have to really think about it to remember whether I fed the dogs this morning but..... Like other old codgers, I can remember things from when I was 10 years old. And some things about the Chrysler products from the 50s & 60s. The 1955 Chrysler 300 was fast for its time. My dad had a 4-door New Yorker sedan with that same engine. The Chrysler dealer who sold it to him said it had 330 hp. I later learned that the factory only claimed 250 hp but EVERYONE said it pumped out WAY more than the factory claimed. The standard engine in the 1966 Barracuda was 225 cid and rated at 145 hp. It came with 9-inch drum brakes front and rear. Two optional engines were available 273 cid with 180 hp and 273 cid with 235 hp. 10-inch drum brakes were standard with either of the eights. Standard transmission was three-on-the tree. Good transmission but horrible sloppy linkage. It was available on the 225 or the 273 2-bbl. Torqueflight (automatic) transmission was available with any of the engines and could be had with column linkage or optional console. Chrysler 4-speed manual box (very good) with floor linkage was available with either of the 8-cylinder engines. Other options included Suregrip differential (limited slip), "Rallye Suspension (upgraded torsion bars in the front, upgraded leaf springs in the rear and a front sway bar), Firm Ride Shocks, front disk brakes (manual or power). Standard wheels were 13"x4.5". 14"x5.5" were available as part of the "Formula S" package (which also included the optional suspension and shocks). The catalog didn't list the 14"x5.5" wheels as an option but some dealers were willing to special-order those wheels without the Formula S package. Steering was manual with 5.3 turns lock to lock or power with 3.5 turns. 5.3 was too slow for driving sideways (now called "drifting") but the power steering sometimes was and sometimes wasn't fast enough to keep up with that kind of driving. The Barracuda was taller than the Mustang so lots of people didn't think of the Barracuda as being as "sporty" as the Mustang but the Barracuda did have a few advantages. Nobody else offered the combination of great rearward visibility and a fold-down rear seat with 6 feet of nearly flat rear compartment in a compact car with sporting pretensions. But the big advantage was the Torqueflight transmission. That transmission enabled any ordinary klutz of an owner to just put his foot down when the light turned green and be 2 to 3 car lengths ahead of anybody without a Torqueflight transmission in VERY short order. That was true of 180 hp compacts and 230 hp midsize Chrysler Corp cars of that era. The 235 hp compacts really needed lockers to put that much power down on the pavement. One little-known feature of the Barracuda was "Flow-through Ventilation". If you kept the windows closed and opened the vents under the dash, (or kept the vents closed and used the heater fan), the air could escape out the rear of the car. There is a way to get great rearward visibility in the 21st century. Buy a regular-cab pickup. I'll take great visibility over these new-newfangled electronic gadgets any day of the week.

@mattmolloy6368 жыл бұрын
Roger Metzger you sound just like my dad when it comes to visibility and new gadgets in present day vehicles. He was all for the Barracuda when it was out because it had function and practicality with a sport-styled appearance, and my grandpa actually had the same Chrysler New Yorker that you mentioned. He now drives a stock XJ '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and he loves it because he can see out of the back windshield and check his blind spots without mirrors or back up cameras. The only bells and whistles he opted for were privacy glass and a full size spare tire. That car is 18 years old now, and he keeps it up strictly because he doesn't want to be forced into buying a new car with features that he'd probably pay someone to remove 😂
@rogermetzger73358 жыл бұрын
I'm sufficiently altruistic that I think I should consider, when I special-order a new vehicle, how the selection of options will affect whoever might buy it from me say 15 years later. Will such options as air conditioning, power windows or even an automatic transmission mean repair expenses the next owner might ill afford?. Probably no one who reads this will care but the current Patriot is (or was last I knew) available with a manual transmission, manual window lifts, steel wheels (they don't crack as cast aluminum sometimes do) and even without air conditioning. That same configuration is available in your choice of 2WD or AWD.

My papa has a 64 and after taking it out of under the tart outside he moved it inside. We had a massive snowstorm and the beam of the garage fell of the back window of the car. Even with a thousand pounds of snow and the roof of the garage on it, the glass did not break. He had to get a giant jack and lift the roof back up. We’ve started working on the car more, getting the distributor replaced and getting the engine running well.

You confused the hell out of me when you showed the underside of the truck. I saw the torsion bars and though nothing of it because that is what I expected to see under a Barracuda but I also saw CV axles and that made me do a double take. I had to stop the video and wonder for a minute if the owner was some kind of master fabricator who converted his Barracuda to 4 wheel drive. Once logic hit me I realized that this was the undercarriage of a 4x4 truck and you must have included it by mistake.

Your muscle car formula is spot on, your timeline, ehhhh. The 69 340 383 and yes Holy Shit 440 were all called 'Cuda. Fastest I have ever driven in my life was right there in Portland where you were driving, above Marine Drive on the 205 bridge. My 69 GS clone. I took a 69 Skylark Custom, pulled the 350 which went into a 79 Regal Turbo coupe and dropped in a 455 from a 74 Le Sabre (455 2V I shit you not) that was Buick;s answer to the 73 embargo, charge an extra $200 in 1974 to strap a 2 barrel on, like that is going to save 1 drop of gas. I put in a Crower compu cam stage 3, and 68 430 heads and intake, thing was a beast. All that power and torque through the built up TH350 and 3.23 posi that I installed. Thing was a big engine and drum brakes all around, safety equipment was seat belts. I buried the speedo on that bridge so was over 120 MPH. To be young and dumb. I wouldn't do that today in my 300 which is actually safe enough that it wouldn't be suicidal to try it like it was in that car, but it was a blast.

"The way back home." I wonder. That phrase seems to encapsulate everything the country seems to be going through right now. The cultural back slide into casual racism, anti-intellectualism, the "my way or the highway, if you aren't with us you're against us" sort of mentality that seems to grip our collective conscious right now. Retro muscle, raised pickups, and "real jeeps" are all the rage. People want muscle and competence, and grandpa's casual ease with making big decisions without any of the negative consequence that comes with them. From baby boomers to gen-xers and everything in between there seems to be this almost primal fear of the future and a all consuming drive to go back to a simpler time when everyone looked and talked like them and got all their references and jokes. When the biggest concern they had was what momma packed in their lunch, or getting up in time Saturday morning to watch cartoons. This generation, this iteration of America will not go quietly. It will rage, burn out, bass boat, trophy wife, and dad joke it's way to the grave. And it's children will come to the realization that there wasn't so much there worth emulating. But they will still value great grandpa's accomplishments with rose tented glasses, forgetting all the horrors he wrought along with them.

I could imagine Alphys driving a Prius unless she'd surprise me with something else. I don't expect her to be into cars a whole lot. Mettaton in a Tesla might be a thing. Regardless of what it would be it would be in the auto detailing shop nearly every day if it had anything at all to work on. Sans... Um, Peale P50; tiny to be comical. Papyrus would be into something flashy but at the same time not "douchey" whether or not the car has that reputation. Did you see the credits sequence in the true pacifist run? He's driving something like what I'm describing in that (I know what it is but I'm not saying what here.) Asgore... Not commenting. A 70s LTD may not be far off. Toriel though, she being more of a caregiver she might have something more like a 1994-1996 Buick Roadmaster Wagon for grocery runs and all that but at the same time with the LT1 engine so it's not a slow granny mobile. She had to get from the Ruins to the Castle fast somehow. :p

Saw one of these the other day outside the local Chick-Fil-A, and that rear windshield is truly a work of art! It was in fantastic shape much like the one in this video!

while hp has gone up fuel economy hasnt. cars that did 40-50 mpg were pretty common back in the 90s and they would really do it. buy a car now rated at 50mpg and its gonna do 35mpg.
@SofaKingTouge8 жыл бұрын
***** The one thing I didn't mention is YES cars make more power. Because if that you will never get that MPG. Because the cars are heavier changes in speed effect the MPG more. You get an old base model CRX you are gonna get real world 50mpg. Low power and low weight means real world and testing are closer together.

In the mid 70's my nursing school sister had the same car, same color, same engine. It had a nice rumble. (Conspicuous missing here.) It did look cool from the back and with the fold-down seat, worked like a sport wagon. Looked like a grandmother's economy car from the front. I can't show my sister your video with audio, but thanks for the cool still shots. In '74 she then bought a new Subaru GL coupe which I initially laughed at. Until it snowed.

Back in '66 or 67 my brother totalled my dad's Barracuda. He then went on to total my dad's Opel Cadet. I have yet to total any car or even put a scratch on one, that's the lesson I learned thanks to my brother.

Overall a lovely, nostalgic, at times even poetic review about a rare survivor. It helped in my opinion, that the pent-up sarcasm of other 'regular car reviews' was curtailed this time, to a bearable level.

I got one of these for my first car in 2002. I still own it. These are in my opinion, one of the more under rated American designs of the 1960s.
