I once drove an E30 (325) with a million miles on it. It was basically stuck on a rolling road for years and used as a test car for Mobil 1. It still ran totally sweet and had an immaculate interior as basically it had never actually been driven by a person. Mobil 1 loaned it out as a demo to show how good their oil was, not sure how that was going to be a great demo but all I heard was 'Would you like an E30 for a week?' YES. Hilariously the E30 had a low oil light up by the rear view mirror. I assumed it was just a broken sensor but it turned out to be correct and an oil company had given me a car with no oil.

I find it's not just with RCR, but it's a phenomenon I've heard with almost every video content creator I've ever watched for a long time. Watch an early video from either Zero Punctuation or GManLives, and then watch their newest videos, the presentation of their voice changes, often subtly getting higher pitched and more animated as time goes by. My guess is that people settle into their "video voice" over time as they get more comfortable delivering lines.

it's not relevant anymore though. Yeah, my first build was also an AMD, but because in that time AMD WAS king (athlon 64). AMD was the go-to processor for any build. If you'd have to build a PC now (well, let's say pre-ryzen release) you're only logical choice is intel.

You nailed it!!! As a die hard E30 fan I laught so hard, it's like an echo of the BMW forums. Only one small detail you didn't get right. E30s DOES climb onto the cam especially the E30 325 with the M20 B25 engine. It kicks around 4k, but sure, not as "bad" as Honda VTECs. The e30 you drove with the DOHC M42 is probably the only engine that doesn't have a slight cam climb.

@MaestroTJS10 жыл бұрын
My parents (yes, my parents) have an RSX type-S, so our experience is rather different. The "oh damn" part is really awesome. Turbos are thrilling in the same way but kind of bug me the same way too.

From working on my e28 (m20), if I learned anything about old BMWs, if there is any problem, it's an air leak. That sums up the whole experience. They are pretty simple cars, but their fuel to air ratio is very strict and can easily get thrown off.

Crills2000 I never learned the exact cause, but I know it started with the electrical system. Worst of all, I feel the fact it became a total loss was my fault. I was driving into work and was almost there when all of a sudden there was a weird drop in power. I was close enough that I was able to drive in without any real problems and when I got there I figured I would worry about it later. I really should have at least checked the engine temperature but I was in too much of a rush. A few minutes later, some one came in and said there was a car on fire in the parking lot and I immediately knew it was me. Thankfully, the fire department was able to put the fire out before the fire could get out of the engine bay or spread to other cars, but to do so they had to pry open the hood. All things considered, she probably could have been fixed but the costs would have far exceeded the value of the car at the time and I wasn't exactly flush with cash at the time. One of the firefighters was also an E30 fan so he knew my pain. So, yeah, that was a pretty crappy day.

Oh BTW, the aerodynamics of the E30, relative to many modern cars isn't bad either, with a drag coefficient averaging out around 0.35, which is still pretty respectable these days. Something else that helps is that it's frontal area is relatively small versus some newer cars, at around 21 square feet. In my Eta, I've averaged 7.7L/100 km, over 130k km of driving. And how does an E30 feel at high speed? Amazing. Smooth as butter. Nuff said.

From fall 2003 to winter 2006 when I lived in Germany the E30 was essentially the community issue car...almost every broke private how bought a hooptie bought an E30. Most were 320s with the 2L I6 some were 325s with the 2.5L a few were 316s or 318s with I4s. All were manuals and most were 2 doors. I guess I never realized how special it was to have access to so many $500-$2,000 cars that seem to be so Brocoveted now in the US...

my parents had a 318is E36 at that time. I can't remember it tho, cuz i was born in March '03, so the memory part of my brain(Gedächtnis) was not there.

I had this car, I wish I still had it. Made a ton of sense to work on. Engineered well and handled really nice.
M42 rebuild is maybe $1000. S38 rebuild might be north of $10k though.

My fav is the 318 iC (cabriolet). So happy it only was available with manual transmission! The chain driven dohc engine competes with the Alfa Romeo 2 litre dohc invented in the 1950's. Just wish Bmw could have put in the hemi head that Alfa used to increase hp a little more and use four point spark plugs to fire it up hotter and better too.

I recently saw a 1988 E30 M3 evo2 sell at auction for $33,419 USD Sebringgrau mettalic 229-in color. That should tell you something about the appeal of this car.

Most fun car I ever had was an older E30 with a loud and fiery carb'd engine. Now I drive a jeep for some reason.
