Tominations some sports are easier for some than others though physically. My feet are slightly pigeon toed and have fallen arches so the motion of skating is more difficult for me than for someone with normal feet. I hate when people are like this lady "how hard can it be" for us, figure skaters, skating is our life and we dedicate it so much. So much bruises, hours, money, passion, pride, effort and we do it just to one day see our family in the audience watching us perform and being proud of us and then we feel like all of this time was really worth it. So don't be like "oh this looks simple I could probably do it too." because it's hard as heck and when I hear something like that I feel really insulted. You need to really love this sport to do it, being able to skate forward doesn't mean you'll do good as a figure skater.

@anwren67945 жыл бұрын
I’m a figure skating and I learned to skate in rentals 🤷♂️ I didn’t get proper skates until I was doing waltz jumps. And actually, their rentals are way better than the ones i wore! I had those horrible hard plastic ones most days. It’s a disadvantage yes, but not by much. When learning I actually found rentals easier as I didn’t have to worry about tripping on the toe pick so much or having blades that gripped the ice too much. Plus I mean, what else are they meant to wear? Proper skates are only an advantage if they fit, and they aren’t going to spend two hundred dollars each on skates for one video.

Having been an adult figure skater I remember how hard it was to start. Then to learn some of the basic spins and jumps just added to the challenge. I stuck with it and actually competed in the adult level South Atlantic and Eastern figure skating competitions after a few years of training. I even ended up teaching adult beginner group skating lessons at my rink. Compared to children adults are usually more afraid to fall so that is one of the things that makes it harder for them to learn and progress. The only thing I saw that I feel Kristi should have said was on the two foot spins that all the beginners needed to try to keep their heads up and arms out and level to start their spins. After they were comfortable with that they most likely could have done a decent two foot spin.

I purchase my own skates and have went skating 3 times. My main goal is to just get comfortable skating regularly. If I can get to Kristi's level, that'd be great 😊.
@clairek.21257 жыл бұрын
these words coming from a girl who did competitive solo figure skating for four years after training for four years: you will not be a good skater based on other things. it’s very different from most sports because the entire concept is balance. honestly i was aggravated with the girl in this video. she was cocky beyond normal confidence and assumed that her other skill sets translated. off ice training would’ve been better for her, but her cockiness put her in immediate danger, even though it was just a mindset. meanwhile, rainbow shirt guy put everything he had into the session which is exactly what you should be doing as a figure skater or someone just skating for fun. it doesn’t matter how good you are if you don’t put in any personality. that won’t let you win.
@maura_the_rose7 жыл бұрын
Claire K Actually, I'm a figure skater coming from years of experience in riding horses. I've been skating for a little over a month and have started jumping, and even playing with jump transitions. I can confirm that the muscles and balance you develop in riding will 100% help on the ice. You use the same muscles; your core, legs, and constant squaring of the shoulders (sticking your chest out.) As well as having a feel for the pressure you put into the ice.

As a dancer, I have so much respect for figure skaters because they are going so fast, trying to portray emotion, trying to balance and land jumps while being graceful. I have never been good at skating, but then again I haven’t practiced much but I think figure skating is beautiful.

I love how the guy in the rainbow shirt is not afraid to fall, and he does better than the others. 😁 Just shows that I’ve gotta get over my fear of falling on the ice to progress faster 😂
