I have a ‘17 GT performance pack too, I love it. I’m pretty sure the one featured in the video is a performance pack as well based on the intake, strut bar, brakes, and vaccum/oil pressure gauge. Only the performance pack comes with those options.
@tyler44712 жыл бұрын
@@zackmagic4242 Good point, forgot that the gauges were unique to PP1. It's fun how different the car can sound and feel at 45mph when throttling it at 3rd, or laying cool in 5th or 6th gear. I actually learned how to drive stick on mine (didn't take too long, luckily no catastrophes or intense clutch burning). Have any fun gearing/shifting tricks?
@zackmagic42422 жыл бұрын
@@tyler4471 Me too, at city speeds or highway, any gear that works sounds amazing. Coming from my last car, a BRZ, I found it much easier to heel toe in the GT once I got used to how touchy the brakes are. I’d say that’s a useful trick to know. It’s not only useful on the track, but even making turns on a daily drive becomes more smooth, and more fun once you get the hang of it. What might make it easier to learn is first start by practicing rev matching on your downshifts if you aren’t already.
@tyler44712 жыл бұрын
@@zackmagic4242 Yeah at this point downshifting has been second-nature, but haven't quite made the leap to heel-toe yet. Turns are usually: 1) pop into neutral, brake 2) rev to the correct rpm for the intended gear based on speed. I've become so well-tuned to the second part, I hadn't bothered learning heel-toe, but I still feel like heel-toe would be quicker

I ordered a 2015 GT ruby red convertible, automatic because I wanted the adaptive cruise control, and it's been trouble-free 38,000 miles. I wanted a cruiser and she's been great. I'm retired so I do all the maintenance . I did a few mods because I think it's law. X pipe, Borla mufflers, catch can, all LED lights, hood struts, K brace, jacking rails, and yes a CAI. What is cool about a Mustang GT is you get all the high end performance, you can park in any parking lot, and nobody stares unlike the new Corvette.

I own a 2007 gt500 and EVERY - SINGLE - TIME I drive it, I am eye'd up by every other mustang driver on the road and co-hearsed at the stop light by hearing the drone of the 6 cylinder being revved to get my attention as if its some sort of mating call. I'm not sure if I agree with that most mustangs are driven responsibly. Maybe its just the locals around here that constantly want to race. Most of these are S550 cars too. This cars rear and side profile have always been beautiful to me, but I still can't make myself like the front. Imo, Ford really hit a homerun with the exterior styling of the early S197, and I would take one of those, with an S550 chassis and interior for a dream mustang.

The problem with the traction control in the earlier models like 95 and 197 is that it waited until it was too late do anything, and then it did something, causing the rear end to go light and become unstable, sending you into a tank slapper, which, if you didn’t catch it quick, would send you into the nearest inanimate object it could feasibly reach. Better to just drive with it off and let your footwork do the computing.

Ford had a IRS ready to go for the S197. It was scrapped at the last second by Hau Thai-Tang who at the time was chief engineer of the S197 program due to feedback from the Mustang drag racing community. Funnily enough you would think this was made for cost reasons but because of the timeline Ford ended up spending more money to put the solid rear axle back in because of the changes required to the car to make it fit. The rear floorpan had already been designed for the IRS at that point and it wasn't a simple plug and play affair for the solid axle. The rear suspension geometry in S197 cars is flawed because of the need to reuse the IRS mounting points. Hau Thai-Tang was reprimanded by Ford higher ups at the time and had to do a stint in their South American operation (which no longer exist) to redeem himself. Pictures of the S197 IRS can be found with a google search.
