Man that sure does bring back some memories for me. We use to run the rivers like that out in West Texas when I was a teenager. 👍👍👍👍👍

I enjoy all your videos. This one especially. As it brought fond memories from my youth when I used to do a lot of that type of fishing along the Wapsipinicon river in Iowa. I now live in Wyoming where that type of fishing is generally prohibited. After retiring, I hope to leave this snow country to an area where I can once again enjoy your style of fishing nearly year round . However it will need to be in a low humidity area due to health considerations. It's wonderful, and I sincerely appreciate you taking me fishing with you. When weather conditions here make it difficult to enjoy our sport.

Good to see you back on John the Regular Dude. Reminds me of when my boys were young, 30 years ago. We bank fished for cats at night using set poles & limb lines most of the time. Occasionally we took my little Gheenoe and ran the lines from the river like y'all did. Good times! Thanks for bringing back the good memories.

Love your videos John! I had a lot of fun when I was younger running limb lines. Makes me want to do it again!

I haven't ran bank poles in years. We made hook removers out of wire coat hangers. They were pretty slick.

Great video. Brings back a lot of memories of when I was a kid, my younger brother and a cousin would set out trot lines, limb lines and yo yo's, camp and run the river or lake all night. It was a lot of fun back then. Haven't done it in over 45 years, might have to give it another try, just for old times sake.

Hi John, when I was growing up we used to set trot lines in a local lake on spring nights to catch a big mess of bullheads. We would have a good sturdy stick in the boat (probably 1/2" for bullheads) and all we did was put the stick in their mouth a little ways and give the fish a couple of twirls and they would come right off the hook. You might try it on the bigger cats when you forget your pliers. (Bigger stick of course)

Better take John's advice on checking your local laws. there getting funny about that stuff in some states. We have to put our name, address, and phone number on every jug we put in the water now. It's little things like that that will get you a big old ticket. Nice video John and I agree, I would rather eat flatheads than channels myself, just a personal preference.

I wish we could limb line in Maryland. Over here flatheads and blues are invasive. Limb lining would be a great way to take more of them out of the ecosystem.

I fish the Ohio in between there too but I’ve never caught a Flathead over 10lbs outta the licking. Heard of people catching bigger ones but that was years ago. I let all the flatties I catch go. Heard they’re good eating too.

I have done a fair amount of catfishing in my time , I don't have flatheads in my area of the country and I know they fight different because they don't turn around but just go straight unlike channel catfish, that being said is thee a difference in how they taste and why?

Hey Dude, new subscriber came over from Richard Gene's channel. I haven't catfished a river since I was a little kid. So this may be a silly question, but what is the difference, eating wise, between a fiddler, flathead, and channel cat? Thanks!
@lolbitsquad81765 жыл бұрын
Left handed cigarette our right handed 😉😉
@josephagamble88636 жыл бұрын
Let me front the haters , this fishing is good for the rivers if it done right and not all the time... The bait fish need room to grow and when there's too many catfish in a river they'll eat everything out of the river and the big cats need food as well as the small cats eating more than there is to feed on ... So it's good to clean out some catfish out of a river or lakes ...

Why do you prefer flat head catfish over channel catfish? I've always liked channel cats more.
@RegularDudeFishing6 жыл бұрын
I eat the channels as well, but I just like the flathead meat a little more, its just personal preference I guess.
@edwardferdin6 жыл бұрын
It also might be a local thing to. I've only had flatheads out of Texas lakes, not flowing rivers. I'm sure that has a effect on taste
@mikeelshoff15916 жыл бұрын
An a trick ive learned from an ol timer is on cat/flathead over 2 lbs nail them to a post an cut there tails off while they r still alive an let the mud vain blead out an the meat will b real white an u wont have that mud taste
