Massage guns are all the rage in the DIY/at-home health and healing community. In the last year, we've seen tons of companies develop their own versions of the massage gun. But with their growing popularity, most people still don't completely understand why these percussive instruments even work. Using your massage gun mindfully is having an understanding of what muscles need to be RELEASED and which need to be SIMULATED or ACTIVATED. Using it in the proper direction for the proper muscle is key to seeing a long-term improvement (and not just a short-term relief). Discover the two general rules for using a massage gun and, more specifically, my favorite way to use it on SHOULDER IMPINGEMENTS!
You can purchase the Achedaway Massage Gun below. Use our coupon code REHABANDREVIVE for $25 OFF your purchase!

Shoutout to Doc for useful video! After following video instructions the first time with massage gun, i slowed down the speed i was moving the massage gun across the areas in the video with a bullet head. I noticed spasming/twicthing as i slowly went across outside forarm, bicep, and top of the shoulder. I kept at it slowly and with same angles and motions talked about in video. Thanks doc!

I have the same massager! I was looking for swimming/diving relief for a small shoulder impingement, coming from someone that has only ever used the soft rubber head for everything on the strongest intensity (usually on my calves, quads, and upper back) and had never used the other 3 plastic heads at all. Swapping out for a more intense massage head each set while keeping the same strength yielded a perfect progression imo by keeping the difficulty on the body roughly the same as the muscles loosened up. Love how cool in temperature it made my non-impinged side feel, and how hot it made the blood flow to my impinged side. I think this video and others like it could benefit greatly by overlaying a picture of the muscle group you are currently targeting. Great video!

Great video & instant results with my shoulder. One suggestion- is a page we could download with the different motions (upward, sideway, etc. ) and muscle groups so we remember what we are hitting each time. Maybe a diagram is easier? I know watching video does all this, but a cheat sheet to review each time would be helpful.

Hello I started doing these exercises. Thanks for the information. I just wanted to asked do you have any advice/videos on neck/shoulder issues around the collar. I’m suspecting a pinch nerve however I noticed my issues arise when I wear a shirt/clothes that touch the skin around the collar. Please if you have any advice I would greatly appreciate any assistant with this issue. It’s a bit of an annoying pain/discomfort feeling all day.

This was great. One thing I was hoping to see is when I've watched videos of the arm moving up over the head, the top part of the trap stretches as the shoulder blade moves laterally. Or maybe it's the levator scapulae. I thought you would massage gun that too. Because my shoulder blade doesn't move enough I think.

I have this cracking sound in my shoulder when I raise my arm above shoulder level, sometimes the crack comes with an uncomfortable pain. I use my massage gun around my shoulder for a few minutes and immediately after that, if I raise my arm again, it's faster with very little (almost unnoticeable) crack sound without pains at all...but this is only temporal, the cracking sound with some pain returns after about 30 minutes to a few hours...I just started a few hours ago.
