I just wanted to say that my dear boy, Jackaby, passed away. He wasn’t all that affectionate but I know he loved me because he followed me everywhere and would sit on a stool and watch me cook in the kitchen, sit on his perch while I was on my computer, or generally chasing me and smacking my ankles without using his claws. He was a big ol fluffy and majestic boy. This was just an appreciation comment because this video reminded me of him. ❤️ thank you, Jackson.

Cats are our partner in some way, our family and therefore you want affection and that the animal likes/loves you.. I also some time think my cat don't show me affection but then i try to see the signs he shows me.. Blinking when I'm blinking. Smelling my hands when i have a snack and so on. My cat is very shy but he has come so long in just the year I've got him. He's just amazing and i love him so unconditionally because he makes my day brigther.. Whenever i come visit him on my bedroom (where he spends most of the time, because you know.. Chilling and shy..) he brighten ups the day, even if i have a bad day. And that is just something that is not always the case with other things you know. I'm so happy i decided to be a foster home and now a proud adopter of Raymond the very shy cat. ;)

This is so my cat. She's not a lap cat, but she's a "I want to be near my humans most of the time" cat. She follows me from room to room. She keeps her eyes on me. We can spend an hour slow blinking at each other sometimes. She's super affectionate, just in a very cat way of being affectionate.

I love to slow blink. I can get my babies motors purring just by doing a few minutes of slow blinks ^_^ usually once their motor gets quite audible they can't help but get up, come right up to my face, and give kisses:)

Cats are not Dogs...they aren't going to invade your personal space 24/7, they are like teenagers that walk through the kitchen "love you Mom" and wanders off to do their own thing. Occasionally you get a hug... a longer "love you Mom" but like a teenager if you chase them for affection they draw farther away. Accept their simple, subtle I love you Mom for the kind, respectful, loving connection it is.

In Georgia US a shelter had trouble getting black cats adopted, as do all shelters. They had one they named Jellybean, and he was adopted right away because the people thought his name was so cute. They named several of their black cats Jellybean after that!!

I have a barn cat that adopted me. He must be part Maine Coon, he is huge... he loves to be petted and scritched and played with. But you best not pick him up, he squirms right out of your arms. does he love me... oh without a doubt. He just doesn’t like to be held or picked up.

There's also the fact that Shisu goes to *Su's* room; he doesn't go to the kitchen, or the dining room, or the bathroom. He goes to Su's room, which, aside from exposing their belly, sitting in your room, on your bed, is pretty much the biggest "I love you" a cat can give; by sitting on your bed, a cat is melding their scent with yours, and basically saying "I love you, I feel safe with you, and I trust you."

My neighbor’s cat would always let me pet her ONLY twice, and then promptly trot off to plop down 10 feet away. I thought that meant she was meh about me. Then one day, early in the pandemic, I took a video call in my car. My neighbor’s cat saw me, but I had to ignore her. She climbed over my front and back windshields and tried SO desperately to get my attention. That’s when I realized those two pets meant a lot to her. 💕

Our idea of what “love” should look like is based on 1. the Hollywood exaggerated depiction of love. 2. Dogs What cats show as love is a lot closer to what a healthy human relationship should be like. Both partners having confidence in each other’s love through willingness to spend time together, but giving each other personal space and focusing on what they individually want to do and explore. A dog’s love is pure and honest, however the intensity at which a dog’s love is expressed is something most humans would probably find overbearing in a human/human relationship.

Relateable but also my biggest secret in a way, its better for a 2 meter tall guy not to talk too much cat in public definately not the same like human love but very endearing and special to me. My cat is my buddy and if I have female company over... and they don't like cats, well.. they can leave without attention given to their "kitty" or any chance of another date. My cat is the only guy I let share my bed, wouldn't miss the little bastard for the world. An ex girlfriend once said you love that cat more then you love me.... turned out she was right, guess i'm a crazy cat man :D

Cats are so much more healthy in how they love: true love is being a two-some AND an individual and feeling good in both roles. They get the distance/togetherness dynamic so well! Your buddy and you respect each other and like each other. And there is no neediness or smothering. Of course you love each other!

@@joankennes3230 haha thanks for the reply, and yeh wouldn't imagine life without my Plato this black cat has brought good fortune for me. But I have to be honest i'm tall, broad shouldered and have a beard, this has gotten me realy suprised and even negative reactions from people that i'm a cat guy.. no idea why its just not stereotypical I guess appearantly some people think its "unmanly". I saw him in the shelter, and they told me not to get him he's too dificult and will take years to trust or sit on your lap... it took about a week (he was a few months old back then) Now he's a big 4yr old (about 6kg and not fat just big/tall) beast and very affectionate, although there must've been some trauma in his past since he's very easily scared especialy with other humans (i'm actualy the one exception) at times he doesn't get the distance dynamic all that well though he just always wants to be close to me, near me or on top of me.... at this moment its 02.09 at night and he's sleeping on a catbed next to my desk while I'm working on something. Amazing little animal that changed my life for the better. (tl/dr I am realy fond of my cat)

My two kitties sometimes follow me into the bathroom, but never to sit on my lap. In my case, it may be mild separation anxiety, cuz they have panic bouts every so often if they wake up from a nap and can't see me or if I leave the room for a few minutes too long (my bathroom trips are usually short). For your cat, he's probably just got no boundaries with ya. Boundaries are hard to set with cats, so... good luck!

I think I understand where Su comes from. We see all these cat videos on youtube with cats hugging, licking, purring,etc. and because of that we have certain expectations. If our cat doesn't correspond to that expectations, we might begin to wonder if he loves us. My cat Neko is just like Su's, and I know he shows me his love in his own ways. We just need to set ourselves free of our expectations and then we will realize our cat loves us just as much as we love them.

I get affection-envy when I watch videos of feral cats turning into mush pots, jumping into their saviors laps, purring ferociously and crazy head butting. Whenever I tried to pet my 8-month black Boo, he would drop down rolly-poley, flippy-floppy, and stretchy--slinky--I thought it was a way of being out of reach and felt rejected, but when I saw this kitty do it and the explanation for it, I was so happy to see how wrong I was.

That’s pretty big already. I turned our semi-feral cat into a love-bug. It took quite a bit of time but we are here now. It took her years to allow herself to be seen by company, let alone let them touch her. And now she’s better with it. She sticks around and lets the regulars pet her now. (I dont mean to be pedantic but here I go. Your cat sounds semi-feral too. A feral cat is almost impossible to tame, they wouldn’t have approached you. Semi-feral is still plenty wild though. I had to show her the free food cause she was rooting around in the kitchen garbage can.)

@@mightymoose1158 Yes for sure. I live in the country and the farmers 'employ' cats in their barns as rodent control. In return the cats get a barn to sleep in, some supplementary feeding in the winter and rudimentary veterinary care with minimal contact with people. I think our boy was part of that set up but he preferred a nice warm fire to curl up next to instead of a draughty old barn.

I’ve had that done to me before! Except, he liked to do it while laying down. He’d also kneed on my chest and if he accidentally hit skin and I winced, he’d pause, look at me, move a bit, and slowly start to kneed in a slightly different spot while watching my face. If he didn’t hit skin again, he’d relax and go back to kneeding at regular pace. He was very aware of if he hurt me or not! He wasn’t my cat and I didn’t live there, but I’d earned his trust so much and visited so often that he saw me as part of his family. I think out of the people that lived there, he only did that to one other person. He should be about 7 or 8 years old now and I miss him... His sister would jump on people’s chests while they stood and climb on their shoulders. But she and her kittens disappeared several years before I left. It sucks because it felt like I was the only person who severely missed her... I’ve had a long history of making friends with other people’s cats, but I’ll be adopting my first cat this year after I move!

Jackson I just want to thank you. I adopted a kitten 4 weeks ago and after following your introduction steps, this week the new kitten started playing with my resident cat and dog. My siamese cat is about a year old and I remember using the slow blink while laying on my bedroom floor trying to calm him. I wish he had addressed the part about being on the phone and the cat meowing at her. One of my cats in particular doesn't seem to pay much attention to me....except when I'm on my phone or the computer. Same, my mom sometimes feels sad because our cat it's more cuddly and affectionate with her husband and me, but the cat really loves her, when she's laying in bed, the cat lays at her side, sleep with her, play together, it's just she's kinda alert with mom because she's who gave her medicines when she was ill, even when she's cleaning the cat litter, the kitten comes near her to make sure her litten it's clean xD The adult cat is more agressive with her but she's like that with everyone when she's not feeling in the mood

This is the video I needed. I adopted a stray recently, it hasn't been a month yet, and sometimes it is hard to see the good signs in front of you when you worry so much about the possible bad signs. My boy is skittish and fearful, and at first was spending a lot of alone time. And the cry meowing at the back door making me feel like he hates it here. But every morning he comes out to greet me, tail held high - always letting me pick him up and nuzzles into my face. And today gave me a lick on the nose. I try to recognize those instead of hyperfocusing on any slight inconvenience he has while acclimating (as I tend to make it worse from over babying). Su is an amazing cat mom, and I agree- you can see how much the two love one another!

I adopted two kittens sisters this spring. One really likes me ... the other one sort of likes me, but not all that much. However, this same disinterested kitty ALWAYS shows up when I am sitting on the potty! My cat of 16 years doesn’t show any affections towards me, though the amount of love I give him is unconditional! He only wants me to serve his food, clean his litter and be always at his service. I don’t think he appreciates all the love I give him.

I have had my boy for about 2 years now. I rescued him when he was 3. He was described as aggressive, attacking other cats and dogs, didn’t like kids and was on the verge of almost being euthanized. At the rescue he played with me and was just the funniest cat, when we got home I noticed he was very shy, didn’t like to be picked up, was hesitant/scared and sometimes would bite/scratch. Now he is happily living with another senior cat I rescued, he is still very independent, doesn’t like human company that much, but will show me his love for me by sleeping by my feet or allowing some head scratches. I think we must remember that cats with a history of being feral or scared of humans takes time to build that trust. Give them time, give them love and lots of toys/spoilt items. They love on their own terms, they just want to know you accept that.

We tend to forget that cats are not like dogs. Cats show their love and affection in so many different ways. I have a cat who doesn't like to be held or sit on your lab. Instead she'll jump up on the couch or my ottoman, roll on her back with a trill, and waits for me to pet her.

I think it's about learning to read cats properly. You take them in and you watch them settle and relax and you start having rituals and habits together and after a while you know your cats have bonded with you. You know it if you can read them. They tell you quite clearly, by behaving in a certain way. Also, I have cats because I love them so much. It's important to me to have that love for animals in my life. I never asked myself whether they love me. Rather whether they are happy cats.

I think cats all have their personalities... My furbaby can't get enough of me. When I return home, she greets me at the door - looking up to me as if to say, 'Where have you been, you've left me alone for days!!' 😢 If I'm on the computer, that's when she'll sit by my side, waiting. Waiting for petting (try typing one handed - useless!) OR after she has been petted, she sits and looks up at me, 'That's very nice, but I really want today is the brush.' After brushing, she hops on my lap for a siesta.🙃 When I sit in my plush chair to read a book, she jumps on the arm of the chair, makes herself cozy in my lap and after an appropriate interval of petting, she takes a nap. I'm inspired to do likewise, so it's all kinds of wonderful for both of us. Mind you, she does have her own time, taking a nap on my bed or the couch or a chair with a cushion.

I adopted a 14yo last September . With a sketchy history (and likely a looong time at the rescue), I knew that he could not be picked up, held , touched anywhere but his cheeks and head (sometimes) or brushed. I question Every Single Day whether he is happy as he spends 90% of his time on a countertop sleeping, has to be coaxed off in order to eat and only VERY rarely comes down to the floor for a sniff of some catnip. My worst fear is that I'm failing this poor, probably abused cat as I see nothing indicating love or even connection. He has safety, warmth and love unconditionally.....And I simply have to have the faith that this is enough for this sweet boy.

I think part of it is that dogs are so affectionate and cuddly. I understand this video and her concerns. My kitty is not cuddly. I wish so much that he was, but he’s not. I know that he loves me. He follows me around, rubs up against my legs, talks to me and occasionally will sit in my lap. But all that snuggling I see in videos of other people’s cats? Nope. My dog does that, but not my kitty. Frankly, it makes me sad. But I love him anyway and am determined to give him a good life.

My guy is a semi feral street rescue. Definitely not cuddly or affectionate. But he always comes to greet me when I come home. And he wants his belly rubbed at least once a day. He'll probably never be a cuddler, but he's usually very close by. I am the only person he will go near. He hides from everyone else. I know he trusts me...and loves me in his own way 😻

I adopted two senior cats last year. The one who gets excited too easily when I pet him allows me to pick him up and hold him. The other one demands pets and cuddles will not allow me to pick him up or hold him. However, they are both sweet and affectionate. I enjoy hearing them purr in the mornings when I wake up and in the evenings as I fall asleep! I’m blessed.

Don't worry, my kitten is now 7 mos old, she is not so needy. My older cat has gone through hell, and has spent a lot of time by herself. She hasn't forgotten me. She has returned to her old self. The kitten needs you to play, make them feel safe, feed him/her, and show them love 24/7. Your kitten needs to bond with you and then you become their anchor for life. Pay attention to your 3 yr old when you can. She will adapt.

It took 6 months for one of my kittens to seek out affection from me. She would always run from me and hiss since she was 5 weeks old. (Stray litter, moved the mother and kittens and began feeding them every day.) I just ignored her, and let her decide when she wanted to be near. Which was difficult because she would trill and meow all the time and it was unbearably cute. I got her used to being touched when she would eat, she was very reluctant at first and gradually accepted it during meals. Now, she is so affectionate as to greet me and follow me around with her brother. They even wait for me in the same spot. One day she just approached and made it clear she wanted to be pet. Probably one of my proudest moments.

I had to give up a stray kitten that I rescued back to her owner today. I feeĺ so down. I bawled my eyes out last night and on my last night with her, she nuzzled into my face as I cried myself to sleep and licked my chin over and over. She was comforting me. An amazing soul. I passed her into the vet for the owner to pick up. The vet checked her and said she may be pregnant at just over 6 months old. The owner never spayed her, vaccinated her or registered her with a chip. The vet is insisting that the owners pay a big bill to take care of her and have set up monthly weigh ins because she is severely under weight. The vet says if they end up not wanting her or they see neglect they will give her back to us. I am not going to hold my breath. I just want her to be happy and for them to give her the lige she deserves just as we do for our boy called Thistle

I remember when my furbaby Nebula (who actually looks a lot like Su's baby) got around 10 months old I was a bit disenchanted because he wasn't as affectionate and cuddly as other cats I've seen before. I kinda felt like I did something wrong even though I'm spoiling him like crazy haha but by now 2 years in, I realised that he doesn't have to live up to my standard of "cat" what so ever. He has his own personality and I love him for it. He shows a lot of love and affection on his way and I learned to love our unique relationship. He is my best friend I love his weirdness, he even started to cuddle with me during the nights. He shows his love his own way and it brings me the greatest joy in life. Furbabys are precious but they don't have to act a certain way. The best about them is their uniqueness and their personalities. I know Shisu loves Sue very much!

Sometimes it takes years. All of our cats have been rescue cats and several of them had been through some really, really bad stuff before they were rescued. Our little tuxedo cat took 3 years before he became a lap kitty, and now he's sitting on us all the time. Our Maine Coon was found at a business site just out of town, torn up and dying; he lost a leg. It took several years for him to feel comfortable with us; he sits in my lap now if I have chicken or ice cream, and he curls up with my husband on the floor. It's not about you; you have to let the cat adjust on their schedule, not yours. You may never know what happened to them before. Imagine if you went through the kind of horrific experiences that these cats have and be super patient. It'll pay off.

A few months after our divorce I rescued a 4 month old kitten that was a complete terror, knocking over plants and just getting into everything.. My childhood cat Pumpkin slept with me almost every night when he was younger. Sometime around 7-8 years old, he went missing for a couple weeks, and when he came back his personality changed. He would never sit still and sleep with me, just get excited and start climbing on my nightstand to knock things over. I felt so sad about it but I had to lock him downstairs or he’d alternate between that, and walking around in the hallway meowing. I also couldn’t get too close to his face or he’d bite my nose! That really broke my heart. I used to love giving him kisses. He’s gone and passed years ago and I know I loved him the best I could as a kid. My mom would tell me he’s just a cat and he couldn’t love me like I loved him. But I could never believe that. We had a bond. Watching your videos Jackson I feel a little better. Who knows what he went through when he was gone for two weeks that might have traumatized him. And he didn’t want to sleep with me probably just due to a rhythm being off. I’m sad that we didn’t put in the time to figure out what he needed, but comforted that it wasn’t anything personal. I know he loved me because despite any problems without sleep habits, he would still cuddle and show me love right up to the end. Thank you Jackson for your videos, it really gives me a strange sense of peace about it. I did everything I knew to do for him and I think he appreciated that at least.

Some cats are affectionate, some cats aren’t. I have one cat, that likes to hang out, but does not like to be handled. Once in a blue moon she likes to have her head scratched and her chin scratched, she’ll make it very clear what she wants. When she’s done, she just gets up and moves away or leaves. I consider her affectionate in her own way, because she enjoys being with me. I have yet to go to the bathroom alone without her.… including when I bathe. I have the other extreme, of a cat, who several times during the day insists upon coming over and licking my nose. He is extremely affectionate and shows it all the time. Rejection, for me is when they don’t want to even be around you. At dinner time no matter how hungry, it’ll wait until you move away from the food.

First off, it means a lot to me that you included a clip of two women sharing affection in your talk about love. It is a love that I relate to and brings me so much joy. Second, I have a really weird cat, and he’s so reclusive that it seems like he really doesn’t like humans. But he also seems really wise. At night, he can tell when it’s too late for me to still be up. Even if I’m downstairs, he comes and seeks me out, and he just waits, usually finding a place to nap in the room, until I go to bed. He never sleeps in my bed, but it’s still sweet that he makes sure that I do.

Oh, the twisting onto his back on the bed...my cat does that so much, the same face, down to the stretchy paws. I knew about the little slow blinks, how my girl follows me around, hangs in my general area, watches me, is very vocal, sometimes just sits right in my face when I'm at the desk, pressing for a few touches, play chase and hunt...I knew those were all good signs. But I never knew the twisty-belly could also be a sign, that makes so much sense and hits so hard. ADHD involves RSD and so it can sometimes be really hard to stop projecting bc of it. My aunt's cats did the same thing! Once they hit ten years old or so, they were so willing to just be picked up by anyone and even flopped around on their backs like that and kissed. Until the arthritis finally got bad at 13ish. But it's like they were willing to speak our language more as we spoke their language more, you know? I think that a lot of people make the mistake of looking for how their cat feels in their entire face, rather than what are the most expressive parts of the cat: The eyes, ears, and tail. They can convey a LOT with those features, if one looks closely enough. One of my two cats often gives me "smile" eyes (Like how it's a little turned up along the bottom rim) and will push his head into the air when I talk to him in anticipation for pats/pets, and will rub himself against the nearest object with his tail up so far it curls around a little at the end. The other will start purring like a motor and trying to get close to my face, shifting positions and reaching out to me with his front paws when I go up and touch him and talk to him. It's a different method, but it's the same message: They love me.

I just adopted a 9 month old kitten and I felt good about her because in the visitation room the first time she was open and let me hold her but my 5 yr old kiddo was a bit loud and rambunctious so she got a little skiddish and was hiding. I gave her a break, we looked at some other cats, all were new transfers and very frightened and I knew that was not a good fit with a 5 yr old and 2 dogs. We visited with Callie again and she was still apprehensive about my daughter but still wanted to play in spite of it, just keeping herself behind boundaries while playing. I tested the field to see what she would do if I slowly offered my hand while she was kind of hiding and there was no hissing, just a sniff and dodge or occasionally let me rub her cheek. So I felt good about it, with apprehension because u never know lol. 1st night she slept by me purring away, 2nd night slept by me and cheek to cheek “scent sharing”, now it’s the 3rd or 4th day and she is right at home and the most loving cuddly cat I have ever known. My kid pushes her buttons too much she will hide for a break and come back out 5 min later ready to play with her again. My daughter chases her when she’s in play mode and she seems to enjoy it actually lol it’s so crazy how perfect this cat is! Follows me and talks to me, if we r gone she looks for us and misses us. And this is only 3 or 4 days in! Is this normal?? Lol I just wanted to share my story because I’m in awe of how wonderful she has been

I remember in my teens it was a hard thing to accept that kitty will snuggle and then go off to do their own thing. It is sort of that way with teen relationships too; you feel bad when someone wants their own time. Then as you grow and mature, and as your relationships grow, you know that alone time isn't necessarily rejection. It is necessary for everyone to have time with those they love, and time with themselves. What another wonderful lesson cats have taught me in life!

I feel this way 🤣. My cat has mood swings. He’s relaxed and wants to be touched and plays with his doggy companion one moment then suddenly he’s bullying our doggy and biting him and hissing at us. We’ve bottle fed the little creature in our arms and he was feisty then and I thought he’d grow to be very affectionate like his siblings bc he was raised being loved and catered to and it’s not the case lol. I think it’s often just the temperament of the cat. Some aren’t as affectionate as others.

I feel like I open every comment with this line, but I have 2 cats, a 10 month old kitten and a 6 year old. They get along just fine, not the best friends I wanted them to be, but they don’t fight and sometimes play chase or wrassle a bit! But their personalities are so different, it’s amazing to me sometimes. The older cat has always had a cat buddy, but has also always been an independent kitty lady who doesn’t need anyone, and loves her alone time. Even as a kitten, she was very playful but not cuddly, I can pet her and she purrs and loves head scrithes, but she doesn’t like being lifted and doesn’t come to my lap or sleep next to me. The younger kitty is the opposite. He’s a little cuddle bug who jumps on my lap as soon as I sit down, still wants to ride on my shoulders (even though he’s a big boi, like over 15 pounds, 6 kilos anyways), sleeps at least half of the night on the bed right next to me etc. anyway, long post short, I can relate feeling like my cat hates me. Mörri the older cat, sometimes makes me feel like I’m a failure, but then she surprises me and comes to give me headbutts straight on my jaw or cheek, and being all friendly. So i know she at least tolerates me :)

If it was an accident and not structural abuse and you just keep your routine of feeding and playing with your cat she won't think about that one time long ago you accidentally hurt her. That said, you should still apologize to your cat if it makes you feel better. I do it too. ;)

my oldest kitten is ten months and he's more independent he likes to do his own thing but he still comes up and cuddles with me like once or twice a day i feel like it's him trying to remind me "hey mom i do love u don't worry i'm just doing my own thing" cus he knows i'm clingy😭
