Put yourself in the shoe of the people in ICA. If you were them, what criteria do you think will be important. Singapore is facing a demographic problem. Singaporeans are ageing with less children. I think Singapore's immigration goal will be to correct those trends by choosing people who will form family units that will contribute to a young labour force with the necessary skillset. Also I think the ICA will place a lot of emphasis on cultural integration - favouring three ethnicities - Chinese, Indians, possibly Malays - because they are more likely to stay in Singapore. Being French place you at a distinct disadvantage. Marrying a Singaporean will help

But as a foreigner in Singapore, it's difficult to have babies when you don't have stability yet - I mean I guess marriage should come first, we will get there evntually!
@aero.l
@aero.l 8 ай бұрын
@@NewtoSingapore OP isn't saying you need to have babies to qualify for PR but that having legal married status helps. Btw I read that charitable donations don't really factor into the consideration but volunteering in some capacity does.

Please keep trying. I don’t think ICA’s decision was personal, but it’s probably because there’s too many Malaysians applying with insufficient PR slots. I have friends who are Malaysian but not Chinese and they’ve been rejected too. But I’ve heard of cases where rejected applicants across various nationalities not giving up and eventually getting the PR!

I'm not sure how true it is, but i have heard that certain race and country plays a big role in getting the pr approved. Eg. If you're Malaysian Chinese, the chance of your PR getting approved is much much higher than others due to the similarities of culture etc etc. But anyway, keep trying.😊
@NewtoSingapore
@NewtoSingapore 11 ай бұрын
Yes, I think more than related to their race is how easy you assume they will adapt to the culture :) Coming from Malaysia, it won't be a huge shock as compared to France haha
@crystal2484

haha yes, we keep our race proportion constant, apparently, it is a rather open secret among the new migrants. I used to hate the migration policies but after looking at the rallies in the west the past month, well, I am thankful. The majority here is Chinese, Indian is the smallest of the 3 main races and Muslim is 14% (I learnt from another KZbin channel and it seems like the golden ration according to the foreign entrepreneurs in that video). Outside of the 3 main races, the remaining % is quite small but if you are say an UN translator, you would get the PR or even citizenship pretty quickly (again, heard from another channel). The percentage is maintained in every housing estates as well, I believe in the past, we have different ethnic kampongs (villages) and there were frequent fights among the different ethnic groups so this race proportion has been in place for decades.

Hi! Just my two cents worth. Perhaps you would like to watch & listen to the rich experience of this lovely Ang Moh lady who got her PR status the first time. She was very active in community works & submitted too a pile of letters of recommendations. The title is "Will she ever truly belong in Singapore?" Her interviewer is Russian guy, Max Chernov, my favourite KZbin guy. BTW, this rich guy also was rejected. Wish both of you all the best! Singapore wants people who CAN CONTRIBUTE TO ITS SOCIETY. Heard that some rich foreigners thought that donating huge sum of monies is the gateway to success. Sorry lah.

Don't waste your money on charity and investments. It's too little. It won't help. Don't take it to heart. PR status is a bit of a lottery, and a bit of timing, Currently, Singaporeans are anti-foreigners or at least there are a sufficient number of vocal Singaporeans who are anti-Foreigners. Or at least foreigners who may be taking their jobs. Look at the ground feelings (of the vocal Singaporeans). When the "ground is sweet", apply again. Good luck.

Many non-chinese graduates who studied in NTU/NUS between 2010-2018 are still getting rejected to this day.... Some have been rejected more than 10 times... I would say Singapore PR for non-chinese is a lottery ...Don't depend on outcome and don't take it personally... Don't invest too much time or money in SG.. Unless you are marrying a citizen

Yeah, it can definitely feel frustrating when PR applications don’t go through, especially when it seems like some people are getting rejected over and over. It’s not exactly a lottery, but there are so many factors that go into it-like your industry, how long you’ve been here, and how integrated you are into society. It’s true that for non-Chinese applicants, the process can sometimes take longer...

Don’t give up. You will succeed one day. For me I came to Singapore in the 1970’s . Because I work for the government I was given provisional PR on being employed. The catch is I have to work for the government for 6 years before my PR is approved with no condition of employment. Because I liked my job I just worked for 6 years . I suppose if you like staying here then just work in Singapore for a few years. You will definitely get the PR.

@NewtoSingapore
@NewtoSingapore 4 ай бұрын
Applying through an agency is not cheap - it's almost $5,000 (with no guarantees)! So if you have the time to organise your papers and not in a rush just like me (I'm still able to stay in Singapore with a stable job), it's still better to apply on your own. And more goes to your PR application than just where you are from - like the your roots, involvement and investment in Singapore for the long term and that's what we have to prove somehow!

Bonjour . Getting PR approved is much harder these days . I know of a Malaysian Chinese who has been here for 15 years and has tried for the past few years without success . There is the political and economical side to it . However , if you truly like this country , you may want to try again but not too soon . Give it a 2 years rest before you try again . Meantime , try to integrate into society by joining local activities , helping out with a couple of local charities and if you are good in sports , join a local women's team . Naturally , marrying a local is a big plus but not an absolute necessity . Good luck .

I'm an American by nationality but Vietnamese by ethnicity. I'm 48 and have been in SG now 2.5 yrs. I've been married to my Singaporean husband for 1 year. We applied for PR for me back in Nov 2023. We just got PR IPA letter last week. 😊 I've never worked in Singapore so haven't paid any taxes. I tried looking for jobs and applying but on an LTVP (with PLOC), many companies wouldn't give me time of day. I did volunteer with the local library but it was just 1 time. I also have a master degree from a US university so I don't know if that helped. Both my husband and I are over child-bearing age so we won't have any kids. I know that you don't want to rush marriage just for the sake of PR but I think marriage to a local increases your approval rate. But with that said, I also know of people who have lived in Singapore a long time, married to a local, they have gainful employment AND birthed Singaporean children but still got rejected. So it is a game of lottery really. Definitely get married for the right reasons and not just to get PR. My husband's cousin who does some volunteer work with his area's MP have told me that ICA is really cracking down on scam marriages for PR/citizenship bcos it's been happening too much. I'm not saying it's what you intend to do but just putting it out there that ICA really scrutinizes these kinds of marriages. My husband and I have known each other for 4 yrs before we married so we were prepared to show evidence of our courtship should ICA asked for it but they didn't. 😅 Good luck on your PR journey! 🍀

It is not about money. We have more than enough rich people in Singapore. What you have is just peanuts. Volunteerism, serving the community. Doing something meaningful to the society. Write a motivation letter about your commitment to the country. Off course, our priority for PR are giving to our neighbouring countries. It is the same in Europe. Asians have less priority to obtain PR in any European countries. It is normal, you will never know why you are rejected. It is every immigration in the world. Show your sincerity to contribute to society instead of talking about money.

I’m also sponsoring my husband for PR so I feel for your situation! From my research however, I do think the chances are high for you after marriage if your Singaporean partner is male. I’ve heard it’s more 50-50 for me as the Singaporean female with a foreign husband as the government thinks we are likely to leave. But I agree, don’t be in a hurry to marry and you are still young! The longer you live in Singapore, the stronger your application anyway.
