I remember when the pandemic started and the then Gauteng MEC Dr. Bandile Masuku. At Mamelodi Hospital there was a crisis of pregnant women laying on the floor waiting to give birth. The videos and pictures were horrifying and he just dismissed it as fake. I’ll never forget that because that hospital brought a lot of premature grief to my family. Even now my biggest motivation for not falling pregnant is the fear of public health care. On the other hand I know young trainee doctors who are thrown into this unforgivable system and they are left suicidal. The lack of resources is leaving them hopeless, exhausted and helpless. We must suffer just because comrades must eat 💔

My sister went through the same dire birth experience, they cut her bladder and 4 days after birth her belly got swollen. she went back to the hospital and it was discovered that the cause of her swollen belly was the urine leaking from her bladder to the stomach. she was in so much pain, and nearly died. She managed to file a law suit against the hospital and the case is still in court. And she's recovering pretty well by God's grace.

But when you sign a consent it’s clearly stated that there is a risk of bladder and intestine injury it’s known to be a complication,surgery comes with complications it can happen at private and public hospital
@presh8042 жыл бұрын
As a doctor in the public sector I initially felt defensive when this segment started. But as it went on, there were some undeniable issues: 1. Consent may have not been taken properly. Bladder injury is a common complication and as someone with a previous c-section (as with this lady), the risk is even higher. It should be clearly discussed because it’s something that unfortunately can happen. 2. When a known complication for a C-Section occurred, she was not properly counselled and informed. This can also add to distress, and it’s not fair for a patient. 3. She was treated very rudely and this made the experience worse. 4. She did not have a follow up appointment after having a Caesar as well as a complication. No opportunity to be reassured or explained to. The public sector is a hard place to work, especially obstetrics and gynaecology because it is SO busy and SO understaffed. But it doesn’t give us an excuse not to properly engage patients. I am sorry for your experience.

@Viceqt2 жыл бұрын
You would be surprised at how people twist their stories when they see an opportunity to sue. Until this goes to court, there’s def 2 sides to a story. See the obvious omission? She says the consent form was for “blood”. That’s a very small part of the consent form but she chose to neglect the rest of the consent process. Also, as a surgeon, I’ve seen/ heard enough not to believe all these stories.

Just look at Shonisani Letholes case (who died at Tembisa Hospital) findings to see how cruel and negligent medical practitioners can be. There are so many cases like his. There are so many women who had hysterectomy performed unnecessary and without a patient's concern. There was a documentary done. I almost died due to OHSS and Pulmonary embolism cos the Dr didnt want to listen. We told the dr that my sis is allergic to penicillin, but the Dr administered it anyway. I demand that leaflet inside the medication, cos a Dr gave me meds with Codeine even when i told him its not good for me. I also gave him the reosons but some doctors dont listen. But when i was admitted at Steve Biko with high risk pregnancy to be honest i had the best care and support.

Public hospitals are the pits. I was in a horrific car accident which almost took my life . Due to the accident I had a scar across my chest caused by the seat belt. The paramedics came to the scene and rushed to me to a public hospital when I got there they kept on asking me where was the pain and I couldn’t respond. The only thing that they did is to give me a drip ! After I was fully conscious I asked the nurse if I could go home because nothing was done ! I was still in pain btw, no X-rays nothing ! ... they ignored me. Please note I was in the emergency room for more than 4hrs not being attended. I told my partner that I’m leaving now pain or no pain I took out my own drop 💔then they started shouting at me( nurses and the doctor) .. But I just had enough then I went home with my bleeding hand 😂from the drip. .. The next day I went to a GP who helped me.

I know and understand the feeling. Also had c-section and from theatre i was injected with penicillin injection whilst wearing a handbelt indicating that I'm allergic to penicillin. So to cut a long story short, i reacted a few minutes after been injected. Was sweating, couldnt breath and i was injected with something else and after that was better after a few hours of hell. Then just a few hours after surviving that horror, the nurse comes back to inject me with another injection and i reacted again. I first started feeling hot, and my heart started beating extremely fast and i just collapsed. When i woke up, asked what injection is it that she gave me, she said its an antibiotic injection but with less penicilin. I was shocked. Imagine, still an injection with penicillin when i react to it.....so some cases are purely because of negligence. That's what happened in my case. And a lot happened, i can write a book. My experience at that public hospital was hell before theatre and after theatre. Some nurses are very kind and some are evil with no sense of pride in what they do, some will tell you it's exhaustion because they are short staff and over worked. So big up to all the professional staff who delivers with pride, have passion for what they do and treat patients with respect and dignity👍👏🙏

I had to have my first son at UTH because he was born at 8months and I was terrified of what I was going to experience.I literary had to get my step dad to use his staff influence for me to get a decent service. Even with that my son ended up getting an infection and we had to stay an extra 3 days in block D. After I gave birth I bled a bit more than usual and the blood started clotting in my womb. The mid wife,bless her literary had to go in and remove the clots. The pain was worse than the labour pains. That experience made me not to go anywhere near a public hospital for my other 2.

Two of us were rushed to the hospital, when we got there, we were not attended to. The nurse asked what's wrong with us, we told her. She just said "oh ok", and just left us bleeding on the benches. Sat there till evening until I decided to just walk home. Worse experience. Tried to report the issue but all three nurses were protected by their senior. The doctor did not even bother to clean me after my miscarriage, in fact they sent me home. Nobody said anything all that was said said was "You're good to go", the end. It's sad that this lady has to live with this caused by negligence. Lord my fear of public hospital. I gave birth in October to my second daughter through emergency as my daughter is a preterm i. The staff were just amazing. Everything was explained to me I knew what to expect and during the process they kept asking me if I am okay do I feel any pains. Will forever remain grateful for being able to afford having medical aid. Hope Petunia Wil get all necessary help to follow up as to what happened to her in theater. 😢😢

Any lawyers in the comment section to help this lady? How do you go in for a C section and your bladder is cut??? This is just one of the reasons why people are scared to go to public hospitals and private hospitals are expensive.

This broke me.. i can really relate. I was to have a csec at the gov hosp due to medical conditions but the way they used to treat us during check ups, yoh!! It was Gods doing that i had an emergency and the closest hospital to home is private.

I hate public hospital, at my first pregnancy I gave birth at Donald Fraser in venda, de stinky attidute from nurses, hospital was so dirty, I gave birth naturally around 3am but I was cleaned n stitched around past 7am ka new shift.
@estherkhalo43972 жыл бұрын
This isn't surprising, the public sector is very shoddy, where I was attending anc they had to draw my blood 3 times because they lost my results, they perform all kinds of tests on you and don't give you the results when you ask they dont tell you it's like you're inconveniencing them when you ask.. I was induced with cytotek with my second born and I only know this because I am an avid reader and I took control of wanting to be informed with what was happening. Thank God she's ok, it could have been much worse

this really touched me so bad...to start with epidural injection is painful af and then rolling over nkosi yame with a baby and numb legs, she was surely neglected, i underwent a similar procedure in a private hospital and bless those people cos they did all they could to help off the pain and vomiting's though it was touch but i appreciate how they tried hard to make me feel safe and in good hands. i feel so sorry for what she went through, it was so hard to take in plus have a baby to care for.

I really disappointing how Public Hospital treat people. People health are number one, government need get their priority straight. The health workers they have a very bad attitude, if I was her I would try to contact President or Minister then she will find out what happened to her plus she deserve to sue them so that she can use that money for private to sort out what went to her.

The bigeest problem is that almost 90% like public hospitals and all government offices. They have made it a norm to give poor service nd are not willing to change

This is triggering for me.I received the worse treatment ever when I gave birth.I’m a Sesotho speaking woman and I was in Durban.When it was time for me to push the nurse kept shouting’Khanula’ to which I told her in English I don’t know what it means.She said I’m acting so she looked at me n kept saying the word.At this point I knew she was giving me an instruction but I had never heard the word before.It was probably after two minutes that she told me to push.She was agitated at this point.I’m not gona say the things she did to me after. Mind you the hospital is Indian majority n according to the lady every Black person should speak Zulu.I’m still traumatized to this day and the stitching is botched

The lady should not wait for long if she intends to sue the Dep of Health. She has three years from the date of the incident to institute legal action. Also she has a right to request to see her medical records so she should get that soon before they go missing. She should have had a follow up consultation and counseling. Mistakes happen, agreed but it's how the mistake is rectified and the professionalism of the medical stuff is appalling. Wishing her all the best.

I know of a lady who right now has a damaged bladder coz of something did in the operation room ,and her being a foreigner is not helping at all ,they refused to treat her and to this day pee is coming out uncontrollably ,she is left with a burden of buying adult nappies which she can't afford ,it's heartbreaking ,I think these people need to be held accountable for their negligence ,it's just unacceptable for them to that
@eddyeddy42862 жыл бұрын
@@ScissorN wow 😮 just wow. You are a woman with the heart of a man an evil man for that matter. Foreigners work in our country and most of them pay taxes. They are entitled to free health care just like us, as long as they pay them taxes. The tax money is utilized to cover the free services that our government offers. Remember we were once foreigners during apartheid.

Really sad story!!! This lady should go forward with this case. These public hospital employees have a habit of mistreating people. This is very serious. She could have lost her life!!!’ And being kept in hospital for so long after giving birth, clearly indicates there was something very wrong. She must go forward and open a case. Go to daily Sun daily and speak out. You will get the help you need, to get to the bottom of this story. Thank God you still here, to raise your kids.

this is horrifying!! I have never trusted medical establishments. health professionals are also so arrogant, I dnt know who told them they know so much that they shouldn't consider their patients. They don't value human life and health despite swearing to protect it! a rubbish bunch!! but what stood out for me was how supportive her husband was, kudos to him. kudos to her for being in love with a supportive and caring man, amanye amadoda engasile kanje, nxa! also honestly when you fall pregnant make sure you are with a man who loves you, his kid and will stick around. imagine if she was going through all this alone
