Those who fought didn’t know if they would live to see the results of their work, but they did it anyway, believing it was the right thing to do for the future. We must keep that in mind during todays’s conflict and turmoil. Thank you to all of them, and to Time Team for this reminder of their sacrifice.

I think the 18 year olds of the early 20th century were cut from a different cloth than the 18 year olds of the 21st century. To all those veterans before us and to those to come after us I as a fellow veteran salute you for not just talking the talk but for walking the walk as well.

I think the most important sentence is that last sentence of the gentleman veteran: "People do not realise really what the penalty is if you go to war. Great shame." I had to realise it twice. My ex-husband went to war in Irak and my son went to war in Mali.

We will remember. The sad part is they had boys as young as 12 fighting in trenches. My father, severed in WW2, lied about his age being barely 16 when he fought with the Canadians at the Battle of D Day. Before, he was sent home a few months later, but he wasn't the only one. Unfortunately they were fighting a war and losing wasn't an option. 🙏.

As a child in the 1970s i new a ww1 soldier he was a lovely person but the story's he told me will hornt me for ever. The trenches were so close he was talking with the Germans & swoped a french banet ( that i still have) for a blanket as the German soldier was freezing) then he thay had to try & kill eachother the next day. This was just 1 of meny stories he told me & he was scared of death due to what he had done.

As a youngster in the mid-60’s I assisted Billy, a WWI vet (American) prepping sewing machines (German made Pfaffs) for the local school system. He had no grief with the Germans but he sure disliked the Red Cross (soldiers had to pay for their coffee and donuts) and loved the Salvation Army (no charge). Funny what we remember all these years later.

REMEMBERANCE SUNDAY & NOW ?? Over two hundred rangers scaled "The Wall" A stone cliff over one hundred feet tall. Some of them made it all the way to the top While others fell and perished from their drop. Those who climbed over, had answered God's call For men to stop evil once and for all. They fought the Germans and destroyed their guns To save the lives of our fathers and sons. So many years have passed since then When our world's future was saved by brave men. And Remember the Russians also fought to save our western countries. Wasn’t only 18 yr olds! My dad was 17 and they could have cared less! I got my dad back but so traumatized he was unpredictable, erupting into violent anger causing all 7 of us to flee like mice!
