Fantastic video I’m so happy I seen it , I’m getting a 1972 GMC with a burnt up wiring harness . And I was wondering how to get to the gauge cluster . Cheers

you might need a second wrench to hold the dash side oil line coupling. Be super careful when reconnecting the soft, brass oil pressure line.

6:35 wrap electrical tape around the shaft of the screwdriver to keep from grounding to the tach housing.

Do you have to remove the steering column before trying to remove the gauge cluster?

So nothing connects to the temp gauge it just works of the wire harness? I have a 72 all guages work but the temp guage
@tremaynestrucks29973 жыл бұрын
Correct. Everything goes through the harness and circuit board. Check gauge by removing the wire from temp sending unit and ground it. The gauge should jump. Most likely the sending unit is bad

I have a question. When I remove the gauge cluster and I want to change just the black plastic outside trim can I use the same gauges or do I have to use all new gauges?
@bubbaj3083 жыл бұрын
You can reuse your gauges.
@tremaynestrucks29973 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use all the existing gauges, tins & lens. I recommend checking the electrical circuit board on the back of gauge panel. Replace if it looks like it's deteriorating

Dose It connect to the cluster feed wire on the fuse panel . I'm missing the wire for the fiber optic trying to figure out where it might go

Any idea what size the nut is that holds the oil gauge to the cluster? Lost mine and am trying to find a replacement for it

What's the air pressure? Vacuum?

You never detail the tach connection. If you are adding a tach, don't you think wire connections are necessary since none of that was in the original gauge cluster?

I can't seem to find the video you referenced about removing the knobs before removing the cluster. Would you mind adding a link in the description of this video? Thanks!

I apologise for the delayed reply. The title for that video is "Remove & Install 67-72 Wiper & Headlight Knobs.

Great stuff. I am trying to get the temperature gauge working and notice there is no hard connection directly to the temp gauge? does it connect the sending unit from the wiring harness?
@tremaynestrucks29973 жыл бұрын
All the gauges feed through the bulkhead connection that plugs into the back of the cluster and runs through the circuit board

You don't show how the tack is connected or disconnected! Lol I'll Google that... lol

Factory air pressure I mean..

Air pressure gauge is out of a C/40, 50 or 60 for air brakes. They work great for air bag suspension system instead of having a aftermarket gauge hanging below the dash
