This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things kzbin.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

Just one observation from the video. A couple of the walls had shear bracing (diagonal stud) on them. They may not be load bearing walls vertically, but may provide shear resistance for the outside walls. Looked like the sheathing was fiberboard.

One tip you may consider next time you support the ceiling joist for a header installation, is to lay a 2x4 or 2x6 down on the floor first, then add the 2x4 uprights to bear on this plate. This will spread your load over all the floor joists, as by chance you did not land the uprights on a floor joist, which could punch a hole in old plywood on the floor. Just a safer construction practice.
@justin837 Жыл бұрын
Not to mention the shear force that’s on the screws directly. Saved time yes. But wouldn’t at that cost.

They make LVL screws (FlatLOK) just for this and most inspectors make you use them. If this was my header I would have cut the ends to match the roof pitch, notched in a flinch plate and jacked that bottom flush with the ceiling.
@N.A.J.2 жыл бұрын
@@FJB2020 I was wondering of someone would make this suggestion. Also, 40 years ago two fir 2x12's would have made that span. With a roll of roof flashing sandwiched between them for a flitch. How times have changed.

That Diagonal Brace in that wall you cut out was to stabilize the exterior wall, but since you kind of boxed it in with that addition, it shouldn't cause any issues..

As much as i love watching the homes from the ground up videos. This series was so great on so many levels. Hearing how to incorporate your knowledge of how new construction is into old construction/existing construction was so informative and relative to a DIY motivated homeowner like myself. The comedy part was better too because the guys were out of their element and every time they used the phrase "it dosent matter" (I thought) was so funny because the guys are used to doing everything exact from the start 🤣. Anyway.. please more renovations!! But big ones! That involve the whole crew! Just like this one. Love the show, hilarious and extremely informative! What else is there to want?

The Diablo carbide demo blades are the best I've found. I started using them exclusively after they sent me a couple fire/rescue carbides to try for auto accidents and extrication. They didn't dull anywhere near as fast as bi-metals and I could usually get about anything done on a wreck with one blade. Throw a new one in for next time. I was sold for good. Also, glad you guys have a good, solid crew now. Been watching for years and I think you found your right team. If I remember, you only had about 2000 subs (only had a few videos up) when I first found y'all and I've watched every video since. Keep it up.

Not sure the code allows a triple laminated beam held together with any number of nails. From what I gather you'll need through bolts with washers for that tri-lam. Some engineered lumber specs will let you use adhesive and nails, but the straight nails will I think fail an inspection?
