I live in London, UK. I have a 2 mile walk to find grass, I'm no farmer I'm a Software Engineer. I'm 50 years old and it seems that no-one can do their job anymore. Warren, you are a rare breed. An Honest, Genuine and no-nonsense guy who works his arse off. There's a life lesson in each video, and I feel privileged to be able to watch you work. Thank you. Rowan Lidbury, London, UK. PS. You should get a private siding and fix them train engines as well.!

Been working on a 389, owner had another shop swap a cm570 in after the block failed on the 871. Junkyard engine of course shop couldn’t get it running gave him a 20,000$ bill and he had to have the truck towed home. Truck came to us it had low fuel supply pressure needed a gear pump, had pinched the wires going to the coolant temp sensor, never bothered to set up the j1939 for cruise Jakes fan etc, pulled the valve cover injector cam is wasted, they put a hardware store bolt in the rocker shaft and pulled the threads on the head. Got the head off today liners look like the thing was stored at the bottom of the ocean. I question my abilities constantly, I beat myself up over mistakes and comebacks but then I see videos like this one and I see the workmanship on this truck I’m working on and it just blows my mind. Keep up the good work warren

Often times people don't know how good they have it when they come across a mechanic that not only knows what he's doing, he's honest with them as well. So they'll abuse the mechanic by cheapskating them, nit picking, and then trying to duck out of paying in some cases. It's true that the human race often don't know what they have until it's gone. The opportunity to grow in wisdom is all around us, but very few take advantage of it it seems.

Thanks for the video sir. Sure learned a lot from this one. Doing it cheap cost more in the long run, boy I have had to (in some cases) work with clients who whined and try to chisel you down on everything, that’s when the warranty was with drawn, then sometimes, you have a guy come in who is hard against the wall, and truly can’t afford to and yet not afford to do a right job, I willingly work with them as best as I was able to, without cutting my own throat, sometimes working with people is worse than working on a breakdown, but it’s all part of the game.

Hey, Warren Cummins has a tool to pull that back cam bearing , it has three spring loaded pins and uses a threaded rod with a big washer and a nut , I rented this tool from Cummins in Spokane several times a few years ago it worked good , it was a hell of a lot easier than pulling the engine or the transmission good luck buddy.

I sure do appreciate the time and effort it takes to make these video's. I will contribute to the channel in another month or two, but i have to repair a hole in my roof from when we had an ice storm that looked like a tornado went through here during the first of march. I also have to fix a hole in the roof of my barn that had a limb punch a hole in it, and also do some repairs on my truck. I don't have a lot of money, but my house is paid for, and i have my own well and septic, heard how bad the folks in town are paying high water bills. When I was an apprentice I rebuild an old N14 STC out of a 9390 Steiger and torqued up the rocker shafts the 25ftlb and the 90 degrees or what ever it was, ran it up and ran fine for about 2 mins before it started clattering like mad, pulled the covers back off and it turned out I’d not done the torque turn on one rocker shaft and it had come loose. Luckily no damage just checked the pushrod was straight, which it was, tensioned the rocker shaft and reset the valves and it was good as gold. Ever since then I’ve triple checked all my internal engine bolts and lock nuts. It’ll stick with me to the grave that stuff up.

Never seen a push rod damaged like that. I am afraid for you on this one Warren. I hope this guy doesn't stiff you on it. If the cam bearings are that bad imagine what the rod and mains look like. So about the tool marks. I took note of the "cut lines" on the push rods and I have the view that the score marks were left by a "basin wrench". Which as a tool has an offset, and where I think, for what ever reason....the "non-mechanic" used that tool to in fact turn the pushrods as a tension operation was part of the process?. The test and capture of a bad injector I think would give this job a very satisfying band-aid. The root cause as led to your service.." Maybe to adjust down the rockers until bottomed out? Yes on thumbs up. As I became a subscriber about the time (before) the last service truck change up, As semi-retired from a large maintance position, 14 crew ....I have a great time as repair in a single bay shop. And I find that where customers are feeling various pressure. Thus, I have to be very careful to costs while as best service, listening to their concerns. The overriding fuel cost, and the financial realm linked to insurance and various tax....basic needs all spell a demand to "get by". Which is the sort of maint. pointer that gets lost as full on care about mechanical wear, best parts, plan for transport are the service need. Very real and underestimated much of the time by the customer. The exception, that group with a constant hands on best operation and savvy managers. Where individual fleet or production machines, are the cost that is built into goods. That drumbeat as skyrocket cost, impacting quite everything. What your posts have at the quality to service, simply speaks volumes. Shop to nature to shop. Parts channel to repair anything. I like. M.

Can you use a blind hole collet bearing puller to remove the last cam bearing. I wouldn't worry about that pushrod end being in the oil pan myself. There is cheap way to ensure the end doesn't move and that to slap the heaviest neodymium magnet you can find on the bottom of the pan to lock it in place.
