He "removed" it in one day, not "stripped". Stripping, cleaning, and prepping an engine, all before building it, alone takes multitudes longer than simply removing it from a car. Especially considering most of the time on any deep work is spent on waiting for surprise parts/tools to ship that you didn't expect to run into, even after preparing for a particular job to be smooth... That's why it's so easy to make disassembly videos, over build videos

Freaking cool car! Sucks about the engine blowing. One question though, why did you remove the subframe with the engine? In my experience I always find it easier to leave the subframe in the car and undo the gearbox and engine mounts and use an engine crane to lift it up and move it forward.
@xfmotorsports6 жыл бұрын
You can remove it from the top if your engine jack goes high enough. Its a matter of preference. Removing the transmission wouldn't have been easy for me because the engine was locked in place at that point. This was definitely the easier option for me
@turbostyler6 жыл бұрын
SK8215 Ahh yes, and I see from other videos (and you mentioned it in this one too) that the front suspension was damaged so it made perfect sense. Great work on finding the root cause of the spun bearing. I personally find that it takes a certain type of individual that builds modified cars to have a unique understanding of what has gone wrong. Not everyone has that drive or talent to dig into the details like you have. Great work, all the best!

Good job! 11:11 11:46 I think that your brake disc is set incorrectly. The vents should be turned in opposite direction from the rotation of the disc. They do not need to grab the air. The rotation of the disc ejects the air centrifugally. In this case, these air flows oppose each other. An interesting place for turbos. Kind regards.

@xfmotorsports6 жыл бұрын
Yes, should be possible. There's two bolt holes on the supercharger where your supposed to add a bracket and two lifting points on the back of the engine. Let me know what condition you find it in. Would be interesting to compare. I just took my 2nd engine apart completely. Wasn't in the best condition but still rebuildable. I'll post a video on it soon.

The motor blew from a hardened O ring on the oil pickup tube. I'm concerned I may have the same problem. Can you remove the oil pans on a CLS AMG while the engine is still in car?

Have really enjoyed your e55 build videos. Was/am really looking forward to the tuning with the twin charged system. Don't know the limits of the alusil block. MID sleeves? Forged pistons? Good luck in any case.
@xfmotorsports6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking forged pistons before but I ran the car up to 15psi on pump gas and everything was fine. I believe even on stock internals it will manage 20psi with race gas or water/meth injection. There would have been a big benefit going with aftermarket pistons if the compression was lower but they're the same compression as stock anyways.

The parts are not that expensive, it's just labor mostly. You can find used ones $400 these days, but make sure it's not an electrical issue first. Rear wheel speed sensors or impulse rings also cause the same thing.

The transmission might be in limp home mode. Are the shifts also harsh moving from neutral to drive? Check all the wiring, the fluid level and sensors. Even a bad wheel speed sensor can cause it

It works well if you keep the boost levels reasonable but when I started going more extreme the AFRs gave a bit of trouble. I didnt get to test it long enough to see if I got everything fixed because the car would throw O2 codes at times. I think it would be much easier going FIC for ignition timing and standalone for controlling injectors.
@410kane6 жыл бұрын
SK8215 cool thanks for the reply. I'm doing a twin turbo setup on the v6 and was curious. I wonder if it will pass emissions if tuned right and made to look stock🤔
@xfmotorsports6 жыл бұрын
I believe it should as far as the car doesn't detect your changing the fuel trims. The o2 sensors in these cars are really picky. They seem to detect every change you make to the AFRs
@410kane6 жыл бұрын
SK8215 did you wire the o2 sensor wires from the fic? I believe you wire those when you need to trick the o2 sensors when you make adjustments. If I've read the instructions correctly
@xfmotorsports6 жыл бұрын
The most difficult part is whatever change you make to the fuel table should match with the o2 table. That's difficult to get right. That's why I'm thinking might as well go standalone for managing fuel.

just seen the previous video. i dont think that you will step down on your track experiences. i know its easier said than done but you should really consider getting a dry sump system. since you will do more and more track days in the future and maybe visit tracks that are even more punishing for the car id consider totally swapping the engine for a m159 or m178.

This vid is quite informative, such a shame that it had to be done under these circumstances. A few months ago I actually googled if dry sump oil kits exist, and could one from the m113 SLR be fitted on the E55, because I feared this might happen with the amount of downforce and grip you were pushing. If a dry sump kit were fitted, could the engine be lowered in the engine bay for the lower centre of gravity, by the way? Do you have any idea what you want to do next? I'd rather see another mercedes engine in the car instead of an LS swap, but an LS swap would definitely be feasible in the US due to their ubiquitous status. Thanks for the vid, keep up the good work!
@xfmotorsports6 жыл бұрын
Yeh an SLR pump would have been an amazing option but it costs $12,000. The pump from the AMG GT is much cheaper so I might try to go with that if theres no other option. Definitely keeping the M113k
