Trolling Motor Fuse and Sonar or Fish Finder Interference

There was a wiring problem with the power wire coming up the trolling motor shaft. Once the problem was resolved I stopped blowing the fuse. If the fuse blows more than once there is an underling problem somewhere other than the fuse. I didn't find the problem until after I made the fuse video.

Yes it was. It was throwing a lot of interference on the sonar. I later found a worn wire feeding power to he motor head.

The device is not in the water. Trying to test the sonar with out the boat being in the water, the interference will almost blank the screen out instead of showing a small spike. In the water it has no interference. This is just one of the many steps to removing interference on a sonar. The majority of the problems are caused by a lack of grounding.

But what does that 3 amp fuse control that won't prevent the normal function of the motor if blown? What does it do that when blown, introduces interference pick up up by the depth finder?

Was your trolling motor still working normal , with the blown fuse?

Have the Ulterra 112v: while reading depth on Humminbird 897 Combo-then reading while go from known 10, 12’ depth to 50-70 ‘ when troll motor forward/reverse is activated. Is this same interference ir possibly associated interference you experienced from the blown 3 amp fuse???? Or is this something different??? I Have not ckd the powerhead 3 Amp fuse yet… any input! Thanking you in advance from deep South Louisiana Bayou country

That is not the fuse. Send me an email with your phone number and we can talk in detail about the problem

Looks like its still interfering when you hit the trolling motor power button...

So what blew the fuse? What is that fuse for?

The main power wire going down the shaft to the motor had a bare spot on it and it was shorting against the armature when the motor was running.

My brother. I have been chasing this problem for days and never once considered that it could be a fuse issue in the motor, sure enough...blown 3a. Now to see why. Thank you!

The fuse is in a brown wire which is a ground wire per Minnkota wiring schematic. Pretty much explains why those adding an external ground wire got the same result. The deal is finding the ROOT CAUSE of the problem. What causes the fuse to blow??? Dave found his and corrected it. Make sure you find and correct yours, which may well not be the same as Dave's. Or the problem WILL return. Just sayin'.

the fuse fix interference noise, that dont make sense .
