Hi Friends, Bryan Johnson here 👋. My health habits were terrible as a kid, I martyred my health for twenty years as I built companies, and I was chronically depressed for a decade. So after forty years of wearing my body down, my biomarkers are now in the top 1%. I openly share all of my learnings and data with the world, hoping that it will help others out. Wishing all of you the best. Top 1%: Speed of aging (epigenetic) Top 1%: Muscle mass & function Top 1%: Fat mass Top 1%: Inflammation Top 1%: VO2 max (cardiovascular) Top 1%: Bone mass Top 1%: Sleep Top 1%: Combined clinical markers

I swear the lies they told in school about science is really making people stupider, the data can not be considered verifiable or even usable since the subject is the one recording it and they’re the one manipulating the data, that’s 2 strikes and either is enough for a disqualification for considering an actual scientific paper, but that seems to be a problem with most of “science” today , sheep mindlessly believe what the people who conducted the study say without any peer review

You kind of fell for his act. He's basically arguing he's doing a single N study. However, it's not helpful nor does it contribute to science. There are three problems with this argument: 1) Nothing he's doing will get us any closer to actually solving aging. Nothing he's doing is remotely economical or practical. He's spending incredible amounts of money and time doing this. It costs him $2 million a year and if you watch his videos he spends the vast majority of his day doing this stuff. He can do it because he's wealthy and a business owner. It's not something anyone, but the elite could do. I personally do not think it's that much of a societal contribution to make wealthy people live longer (they already have way higher than average life expectancies). Very little of what he does could be helpful to the average person or rolled out on a mass scale. By his own admission, the most expensive and time consuming things are the things that seem to him to make a larger impact on his biomarkers. 2) It's a single N study. We don't know if his "results" work beyond him. His protocols are far too expensive and difficult to study with even modest sample sizes. To get adequate power you need to spend at least $60 million to follow participants for a year just for the protocols. Nevermind the other costs of research. We basically only know what happened to him. That's not helpful to anyone else. 3) He's doing way way too much for us to draw any conclusions. If he's a walking single N study then he's also a Gordian Knot of confounding variables. We have zero idea what is doing what and we can probably never know. He's not even waiting to do things bit by bit. He's just throwing everything he can at his body hoping it will make him younger. He's had some success but we have no way of knowing what worked and what was a waste of time and money. That's not good science if you could even call it science at all. The truth is that he just wants to live longer and he's probably just having a very pronounced midlife crisis (which is actually not a typical phenomenon by the way) with a side of Momento Mori. He just wants to live longer and be young. He doesn't care about the science of what works or anything. He cares that it works. I think he also just kind of wants to be famous and well-liked. He clearly spends a lot of time online and he's tried to get in the news as much as possible. If he just cared about science then he could do that quietly. The problem is that a rich person spending ungodly amounts of money trying to find the fountain of youth isn't going to be well received. So he came up with the "I'm doing it for science" explanation so he doesn't just look like a man abusing his privilege and trying to get around something every other human just has to deal with. That sells better. I'm not buying it. He should stop getting praise for doing something so self centered.

Small correction because it‘s thrown around so much: Andrew Huberman does not promote looking at the sun directly in any way. He is saying that it‘s good and important to get direct sunlight exposure on your retina, e.g so not behind your window, especially during the sunrise and sunset cause of the angle. You don‘t have to look at the sun at all and of course blink as needed. That is what he is saying.

Context is important. Seed oils (unsaturated fats really) are healthy when NOT heated, yes. But you shouldn't cook with them. You can use these in a salad. Or maybe to cook an egg on medium heat, but don't expose them to high heat because they are chemically unstable and WILL degrade with heat. Also most seed oils are extracted with petrochemicals and can have residue and obviously that can be a tremendous health hazard. The healthiest oils are still natural fats like lard, or things like butter, ghee, olive oil, coconut oil. There is simply no way around that.

Bryan is very open minded, nearly everyone can follow his protocols and he’s rly trying to help ppl. He’s also rly rly disciplined and rly follows everything everyday Also their is a female patient, his son as well that follow the protocols and get measured

Bryan's program began with a sample size of one, but there are now thousands of people following his protocol. Let's see where this takes us.

I could never live like Bryan, hardly anyone can. But there’s still so much to learn from him and the things he experiments with. Dr Mike’s right that it’s such a tiny sample size but maybe it pushes the science forward somewhat and encourages proper studies testing even a tiny portion of his findings, that we wouldn’t have otherwise had. I think that’s pretty cool

A lot of what he does is actually based on studies of large groups of people. I don't think he does that great a job of explaining his shit tho, his videos are often "I do this, it works for me, here's how you can do it' he's not a science communicator, just a rich guy who does some research in conjunction with paying his 20 doctors to come up with shit for him to do.

@@schlachsahne884 Interesting. You could have turned this into an intelligent and respectful debate, but you chose the internet troll route. Not the path I would have taken, but to each their own I suppose... I would suggest re-reading my comment. I said it might be feasible. In other words, I made no claims to certainty because that would be impossible. However, I have worked in the IT industry for 20 years as a software developer, and have seen the incredible amounts of advancements that AI has seen in literally just a couple years. So I have a bit better of a perspective of where things are going than the average Joe. It occurs to me that you are one of those people that desperately fight against AI regardless of how it is used. So any time anyone even utters those two letters in even the slightest positive way, you have this unsuppressible urge to start shit with them. Hate to break it to you, AI isn't going anywhere, it's going to be better than you at everything you do, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. You can either embrace it and benefit from it, or be left behind. Your choice, I honestly don't care what you do. Also, I care little for your opinion in general since you have already established yourself as an internet troll. So feel free to type up your response (I'm sure it's going to be wonderfully eloquent, and filled with as much insight as your first response), but I will not be reading it. So just know ahead of time your efforts will be wasted. Not because of a fear of conflict or anything like that (I have no issues with that), but it's because you chose to be dick with zero prior provocation. So next time, be respectful, and you might actually get somewhere.

@@Vandel212 While i don't have 20 years in the industry, i have 2 years, and a bachelors in computer science. What you're saying is just nonsense. ML as it currently works is basically hitting a wall, OpenAI have said so themselves. We're still not anywhere near an actual GAI, what we do have, is language models that are very good at giving the illusion that they're actually intelligent.

I started to eat that stuff and got addicted, but in different way. I have twice more energy, mind clarity and much stronger hearth. Only problem was to make it tasty - the key to that is to start with Olive oil, ginger and garlic, then add spices (including a little chilli) and the (broccoli, cauliflower and lentils) + 300ml of water - and you get a really good food, like Indian Dal (Apple Vinegar as LAST before mixing the thing) - or change broccoli for spinach and put beef steak on grill and you get delicious spinach with steak
