Vshred is def BS but I wouldn't say it's the looks purely, it's a great example of how a tight marketing campaign that preys on people's fears and validates their (excuses) for why they can't get into shape is easy money. The looks is the cherry on top since the same people that fall for this won't take advice from someone who doesn't look like a model.

I ate 4 healthy meals a day, going to the gym 5-7 days a week, I did light weights with as many reps as I could stand and cardio. I lost 84 lbs, though it took 3 years. I have gained 20 back and idk what made me think to turn to VShred to lose that weight. I keep losing and gaining back. Irritates me that I didn’t do what I was doing before that actually helped me. Hey! It's worth noting that we all go through some fluctuations in weight, we all go through periods in which one or another part of our life takes a backseat due to stress, changing priorities, etc. I myself am getting back into the swing of things after having a kid and having more than a couple of fitness derailing injuries, so I believe i know what you're going through. Know that you CAN do this. Believe in yourself, and put in the work and you'll get there. It's also worth saying that just because working out a certain way worked for you before doesn't mean it's going to work the same way this time- not because the science is any different, but because you may not have passion for the same type of exercise. Maybe you can find a type of exercise that suits your personality more in this phase of your life, to be a focal point a couple days a week, and lifting can be geared towards that. Some people find that starting a new sport or hobby (rock climbing, dance, rowing, fencing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, yoga) can help them focus their workouts and gain new motivation and momentum. Good luck to ya! Edit: some spelling and punctuation

Excellent one, as always! Thanks, Dr Mike! Re sleep: one of the effects is reduced leptin levels (impaired satiety), increased ghrelin (increased hunger) and insulin resistance. The first two will be directly contributing to consuming more foods than one should, especially hyperpalatable foods, that are often rich in "empty calories" (due to naturally occurring/added fat & sugars).

I ALMOST bought his program in a moment of desperation. I feel stupid saying this now, but I thought he was the only one that knew why I wasn't losing weight like 2 years ago. I had a hormonal disorder and I'm an emotional eater. I was vulnerable and I almost spent my money on him. Luckily I found support. There's NO WAY to lose weight without being in a caloric deficit. I was eating healthy, but way too much. I was exercising, but not as often, not as heavy. Consistency is key.

I'm thankful these videos exist now. I remember years ago being appalled at my friend for buying his program when I knew of so much valuable information online (which takes work). To my friend a fit guy was a fit guy and he couldn't tell the difference. He bought before I could stop him and there wasn't resources outside of "believe me bro" to show it's all a scam. Putting the sleezy marketing, stealing content, and everything else aside, my friend's experience was complete trash. He is a super skinny by nature type and needs to focus on small meals with deceptively high calories to bulk and the "custom built" diet and exercise program based on his body quiz was the same copy/paste garbage they give everyone. Low calorie and fat style with a standard workout. Every meal was lean chicken, broccoli, and rice. The exact opposite for his actually body type.

The first part about not seeing these people, and what they eat all day long totally rings true with me. I can eat a rather large meal like the whole thing plus dessert and even some extra but then the rest of the day I’ll have like a bowl of oatmeal in the morning, one thing of Greek yogurt maybe a protein shake. Sometimes for breakfast I’ll have like two scrambled eggs and a slice of toast but if you saw me at a restaurant you would think how the hell do I stay relatively slim and still be able to eat so much.

When I was losing weight and doing intermittent fasting, I remember my nephew (who is thin without having to try) said “I just eat whatever I want whenever I want.” Which was true, but on questioning it turned out that what he naturally wanted to eat and drink was very similar to the IF schedule I was getting myself to learn! Having recently come back to the world of “healthy eating” after many years off (like, waaaaaaayyyyy off) the wagon, I find myself wondering how many years I spent hurting myself based on the advice of people like V-Shred. I’ve watched documentaries that tell me meat and oil and fats are evil. Plants and only plants are the way to go. I’ve seen material that says meat and meat only. I’ve seen material that says carbs in moderation. I’ve seen material that says none. Honestly, I have no idea what or who to believe anymore. But, this channel makes sense. All I know is my doctor said “lose the weight before your liver goes bad,” and if it means fasting 24 hours a day 6 days a week and eating 1 blade of grass that seventh day, then I’ll bigod do that. Because, liver failure is a painful way to die and I don’t plan on doing that shit.

I also have to point out, as someone with Type 1 Diabetes, insulin resistance plays a huge role in ability to lose weight. I was overweight (around 220lbs) by the end of High School and through the few following years and had a horribly high A1C of 11 (very life threatening), but I was depressed, so I didn't care about my health at all. Then I got professional help with my mental health and started trying to take better care of myself and have since gotten decent (not perfect yet) control of my blood sugars, (A1C is now 7, almost down to the 6 range) and with all that, my insulin resistance lowered dramatically. All of a sudden the weight started just melting off so easily and the only things I changed (aside from getting mental health help) was I started paying attention to my blood sugars, stopped eating just because I was bored and stopped eating candy/high sugar stuff. I now only eat when I need to and I also now drink water (not anything to do with the weight loss, but it most certainly does have to do with my health, since I was always very dehydrated and ended up in the hospital multiple times due to extreme dehydration)... Which leads into my next thought I wanted to add and that, while it's improving these days, probably due to social media being a bit obsessed with hydration these days, dehydration was definitely a huge issue when I was growing up and even still today for a lot of people I know. My mom, my brother, my best friend, my ex-boyfriend and I, all hardly drank any water at all growing up and now only me and my best friend have improved that, (I have no idea if my ex did or not, we don't talk anymore), but my mom and brother still only drink 1 or 2 bottles of water per day, if even that. I have to pester my mom to drink water, (she lives with me), since she hates drinking water and wants to live on coffee and she unfortunately is one of those people who thinks she doesn't need to watch her hydration levels or how much sugar she consumes since she isn't Diabetic. Which is just not true and it makes me sad that people who don't have issues like Diabetes, just ignore these things (sometimes) until it's too late. So while yes, hydration levels don't directly help with losing weight, it is still important and so I do like to remind people to drink water, even if you can't reach the levels recommended. (I was recommended to drink 4 to 5 bottles of water per day, which is very hard to do, despite the fact that I primarily drink water now, or juice only if my blood sugars go low, so I just aim for as much as I can stomach). It really does help, since I have not been hospitalized for around 5 years now and while I'm still a bit dehydrated, it's not nearly as bad as it was before, but I obviously don't attribute my weight loss to that at all lol... Oh right, (sorry for the long comment lol), I almost forgot, in regards to protein, be careful with over consumption of it if you have Kidney problems, since I have Kidney Disease and too much protein is dangerous for me, so if you have any Kidney issues, check with your doctor before adding any additional protein to your diet.

I'm so happy for you man and you should be proud of yourself for taking your health seriously and putting the work in to improve it. It's a difficult process and it only gets harder the longer you wait/put it off. I hope your mom and brother decide to change their habits by your example. Unfortunately we can want/have the best intentions for our loved ones but ultimately they have to make the decision themselves. I'm in a similar boat after having my two kids I gained about 40-50 pounds and I'm a small lady, 4'7. It took a big toll on my overall energy levels/mood as well as the ability to get out and play with my kids. The past month I've been working out consistently and doing keto and I'm starting to see some results and overall feel a lot better too. Sadly my husband is not on board with me yet and hasn't made the decision to change his lifestyle. I can't make that decision for him but I hope that after a while seeing my results, that will help motivate him before he ends up with any long term health effects.
@kandieharrison4055 Жыл бұрын
@@jasminea.1686 Thank you and I'm happy for you too. Yeah, it's a vicious cycle in my family unfortunately, the only person who had a healthy lifestyle growing up was my nana. My brother did for a while, but then we lost our dad and he got really depressed and turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms. But almost all the adults in our family growing up ate not so healthy diets (fast food, store bought junk food, lots of candy/sweet foods) and had bad habits like smoking and heavy drinking. My aunt didn't drink or smoke though, but she did eat an unhealthy diet. She is also trying to improve her lifestyle now, due to being diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes (I have type 1) a few years ago. But it does kind of make me sad that the only reason my mom has showed any interest in changing her lifestyle is to get skinny. Like, yes, losing weight can be beneficial to health for sure, however, it's sad that to her it's about what she looks like, not what her internal health is like. At this point she's just accepted that she's going to be unhealthy and so I guess she only sees losing weight as an external, visual change. I'm excited to see clothing fit me that haven't fit me in over 10 years and to look good in the mirror. But that's not why I lost weight, I lost weight because my BMI was at a very unhealthy number. And the excess weight was causing my Kidneys to have to function harder too, which is bad, since I have Kidney disease. And I had high insulin resistance due to the excess weight, so losing weight was to make things easier on my body. I don't want my life to end way too early and I miss out on seeing my nephew and nieces grow up or never get the chance to have a family of my own. And I think that's why it's working this time around, as opposed to when I tried to change my lifestyle around the end of High school. Last time, it was solely about being beautiful and the actual health part was just a plus. Now it's reversed, it's about the health aspects now and the visual part is just a plus... Anyway, I'm talking too much lol. I hope you have a nice day/night.
