Renault Trafic Lower Ball Joint Change How To
"In this tutorial, we walk you through the process of changing the lower ball joint on a Renault Traffic, focusing on the 1.9dci model and related variants such as Trafic, Renault Trafic 1.9, Trafic 1.9, Trafic Vivaro Primastar, Renault Trafic F9Q, and more. Whether you're dealing with a Vivaro F9Q or a Renault Trafic 1.9dci Primastar, this guide will provide you with the necessary steps and tips for a successful ball joint replacement.
Tools and Equipment:
Jack stands
Wrenches and sockets
Torque wrench
Hammer
Replacement ball joint
Pry bar
Penetrating oil
Procedure:
Safety First:
Park your Renault Traffic on a flat surface.
Engage the parking brake.
Use jack stands to secure the vehicle after lifting it with a jack.
Remove the Wheel:
Loosen the lug nuts with a lug wrench while the vehicle is still on the ground.
Lift the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands.
Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
Access the Ball Joint:
Locate the lower ball joint. It is usually found on the lower control arm.
Remove the Nut:
Use a wrench to remove the nut securing the ball joint to the control arm.
Separate the Ball Joint:
Use a ball joint separator to disconnect the ball joint from the control arm. If necessary, tap it gently with a hammer to help it release.
Remove the Ball Joint:
Depending on your specific model, you may need a ball joint press to remove the old ball joint from the control arm.
Install the New Ball Joint:
Position the new ball joint in place.
Use the ball joint press to press the new ball joint into the control arm.
Secure the Nut:
Reattach the nut and tighten it to the manufacturer's specifications using a torque wrench.
Reassemble:
Reassemble the other components in the reverse order of disassembly.
Torque Specifications:
Follow the vehicle manufacturer's torque specifications for all nuts and bolts.
Test:
Lower the vehicle and test drive it to ensure the ball joint replacement was successful.
Remember to consult your vehicle's service manual for specific instructions and torque specifications. If you're not comfortable or familiar with this type of work, it's advisable to seek professional help to ensure the job is done correctly and safely. Additionally, using the appropriate hashtags on social media platforms can help you connect with others who may have similar experiences or provide additional tips.

I have turned off notifications for this video so in theory, my Subscribers who tune in for motorbike stuff shouldn't see this...Hopefully not!! Or my experiment has failed....Idea of this is to put other non motorcycle videos on here without harming the people who tune in for motorbike videos.....I will soon see if its worked! I like doing this stuff when it goes well but when it doesnt ,its a severe pain in the ass!!! Its also being up against time that puts me off as well....Learning the simple little jobs leads to the bigger ones...I had to do this because of the yearly legal checks here ....I'd rather pay someone but they were all busy. Have a good xmas buddy and I hope all is well your end....Thanks for your comments on the peaky show last night...I saw some of them and your doing great at the vids. Pat your self on the back....Ill try and catch up with the last 2 soon

I just changed the same ball joint on my Renault Laguna II (Phase I). Same procedure. Took a while to remove the old part, especially the rivets. Not a difficult job really, although it does take some hard work.

OK Steve. It's official. I'm an Exmouth Biker überfan !!! I actually watched and enjoyed this one last night, even though I will never touch a ball joint in my lifetime ( I have staff for that sort of thing ). Interesting to see the little workarounds you come up with to make the job easier. Good work my friend ! Presumably, with the shiny new ball joint, the Trafic passed the MOT with flying colours ? Looked pretty clean underneath 👍🏻 Glad you figured out how to approach it and got it sorted. Cheers Steve and love to the family. Have a great Christmas. Garry & Ruby ❤

I thought it was noticeable how the trapped fingers and skinned knuckles didn't make the final edit! Or perhaps it really did go that smoothly? 🤬😝🤣🤣

@@kenbrooks7794 😂 I try to avoid making workshop videos personally. By the time I've cut out all of the swearing, there isn't usually much video left 🤗 It would be interesting to know how long Steve's UNEDITED recording was. My guess is that it was indeed a fair bit longer than this video 😂 Cheers Ken 👍🏻 Garry

Yes Straight through the MOT on the re-visit. I also have staff but they were busy with other projects and couldn't fit me in for 3 weeks but that would take me over the 2 week re-test deadline....So I sacked them all and cracked on myself. I quite enjoy doing this stuff (when it goes right)!!! Have a good christmas Garry & Ruby, I'm not sure if its a big thing in France but I hope you have a nice time all the same. El outro my friend, Dave

The hands were fine, Its a shame the jack failed while I was putting the blocks under the car. But the doctor said there is a 55% chance I should be able to walk again in a couple of years which is fantastic the odds are in my favour!

I'm not a time served spark mate, but do it in conjuction with the building work..7671, and a test and inspect is all I have, but I'm surprisingly knowledgeable on the hide bashing front and fault finding..... Commercial, nope forget it! Not my thing. Yeap told are scary, but it's nothing compared to a more saw, planer or my table saw.... That's really scary! Have a super Christmas with you and yours Phil 👍🍻🎄
