The Eggman thing. Sonic didn’t start calling him that. With the game’s first release, in Japan his name WAS EGGMAN. In America, due to something, they made the name Robotnik. It was only later that they rechanged his name to Eggman to match japan’s game releases. It was only after that they made the story that Sonic started calling Robotnik Eggman as a joke.

Both are right. In Canon, Sonic called Ivo “Eggman” and Robotnik decided to adopt the name out of spite, in Real Life, Eggman was his actual name in Japan that was changed in localization.

Something this forgot to mention about Mario: the official character guides describe Mario as inventive and cunning. Knowing that Sonic has fallen prey to other clever opponents, it's not hard to imagine that Mario could figure out the pattern or openings to get the upper hand on Sonic. This is actually proven in some of the RPGs. In Superstar Saga, there's a point where Mario and Luigi are forced by Bowletta and Fawful to bring the completed Beanstar in exchange for Peach. They first attempt to give the villains a fake Beanstar, but they're not fooled and take the real one. Before going after the foes, Mario comes up with a plan using the spare Peach dress that Toadsworth gave them (he feared that Peach would damage her clothes in trying to escape captivity) - Luigi would be disguised as Peach (while covering his face) and trick Bowletta and Fawful into thinking they kidnapped an imposter. This fooled them into giving up the real Peach to capture Luigi (who would then take the Beanstar back from the villains). All that was Mario's plan.

Also Fawful. Who just so happens to have created a very useful headgear. Which: Flies, shoots out projectiles, can suck things up like SOULS, most likely repaired an airship that HE destroyed. And that was before Bowser’s Inside Story. Where he does A LOT of trolling. And Mario outsmarted him.

Superman to my knowledge, isn’t about powers, but the character himself. About an outsider interfering with tons of power and being an outsider. So the intrigue isn’t the punching but his mental journey. To each their own. Don’t know if that perspective helps or not, but it’s not for everyone.

Brandon Foley yea but you can only tell a story like that for so long before it becomes repetitive and overdone. Like how many people feel about Superman now. He's one dimensional at best and extremely boring at worst. He was made during a time that people would consider his character deep and original. But now there is so much more that a character needs to be considered deep. I can't speak for the entire comic book series because I'm not to into comics in general but that my take on why Superman is boring and one dimensional as of today's standards.

+Hunter Super If you think Superman is a boring, one dimensional character, then you've never read a decent Superman comic in your life. If you only watched the movies I could maybe understand that conclusion, but Superman's appeal as a character is really quite similar to Captain America's appeal. He's an honest good person who stands by his principles even if it will go against him. He always believes the best in people and he has a generally positive outlook on things. Said character archetype can be outdated, but if Winter Soldier shows us anything, it's that you don't need to change the character or his outlook to make him interesting, you merely change the world around him. A positive, optimistic Superman in a nihilistic modern world makes for an interesting story, and an interesting character. At the very least if you still feel Superman is a boring character after this, atleast give All-Star Superman a shot, and if you've read that and still don't like Superman, then I guess that's just not your type of character, and that's fine. But he's not an objectively bad or boring character.

For anyone wondering why that would make a difference.. Dark Sonic actually moves faster than light, is has no qualms using 100% of his strength, or less should he want to make one suffer first. Of course this form only comes about when someone close to him either dies, is tortured into a coma, or anything similar.

I watch the Death Battle Podcast and one of the questions from the Death Battle of Mario and Sonic was about Cappy and Cappy wouldn’t work on Sonic due to Sonic resist mind control. Another question that was stupid that someone ask why don’t Sonic characters win which it’s bull cause Sonic won the first one, Tails won (I agree with Nate), and Amy won. I don’t count Metal Sonic in Dr Wily vs Dr Eggman (I see that as a draw, though I think Wily would won).

I don't know if you guys know this, but if Mario is ever in a bad situation, he can use the retry clock which can rewind time to when the fight started. Sonic (might) be able to resist Cappy since he overcame mind control before. In Super Star Saga, Mario and Luigi were able to dodge lighting from a few feet away during the final boss fight. In one of the black text boxes, it says that Mario can hold 64 powerups and his bottomless gloves allow him to use each one unlimited number of times. One flaw I saw was that I saw was that they didn't know that Mario can only make 4 perfect clones. Mario also uses mushrooms to recover from injuries (as seen in the Mario and Luigi games.) In the 2011 Deathbattle, Mario lost because he got dizzy from a giga shroom which never happened before. I don't know a lot about Sonic so I would appreciate it if a fan could lecture me. OH I almost forgot, Mario has access to the most powerful item in fiction, The Super Crown. This took so long to write. :)

I'm pretty sure that Eggman was originally his name in the Japanese version of Sonic the Hedgehog (I remember it being a reference to the Beatles song, seeing as how he looks like a walrus). I think the creator of Sonic said Hyper wasn't canon in an interview. sonic 3 was canon, though, and they said they were using canon material. So maybe that's why they put Hyper in.

To be honest, I really don’t agree with this. I think Mario has the advantage in power ups and raw strength when comparing both base forms, but Sonic has it in speed and durability (Death Battle used the Death Egg explosion as a feat for Sonic in the Shadow vs Ryuuko fight, which makes Mario’s stadium feat look pitiful).

First of all, sonic has used chaos control in canon, with the false chaos emerald, and he also used it to move an entire space arc away from colliding with the earth. Another thing, the fact they used hyper sonic, and made Mario’s starman ability somehow extend (most likely to just give him the victory). Hyper sonic would definitely outlast that.

Strange that they're comparing Sonic the Hedgehog from Sonic Boom, even though it is a different version of Sonic like Classic Sonic from Sonic Mania in Sonic Forces, even Paper Mario in Mario & Luigi game from the 2-D world. Even though they're using Sonic from Sonic Boob, he was able to move normally after Eggman slowed down time, which normally everything moving around him is slow anyways.

Hey guys I mean no disrespect but there have been a couple of Sonic games that have either revealed or granted Sonic a decent amount of new capabilities In Sonic and the secret Rings you have Dark Spine Sonic In Sonic Unleashed you had Warehog Sonic In Sonic Colors which is the origin of the Whisp’s that they granted Sonic he can use all seven of them to not turn into Super Sonic, but Galactic Super Sonic And not to mention Dark Sonic and even Super Dark Sonic which is the negative version of Sonic’s base form and Super form of you infect the Chaos Emeralds with negative energy or Chaos energy

I don't mind mario beating sonic in the rematch but this death battle didn't make sense like where they used the Information of Mario's power from THE CARTOON SHOW! Which is not the same mario and them couting sonics speed from SMASH BROS and they were saying that mario can catch up to sonic even with super and hyper! Which doesn't make sense when the last death battle they Countered each other so it would be a 1 on 1 fisted fight but sonic with speed will be able to put mario down so I don't agree with this death battle rematch and the first one I believe has the right Results but hey this is my opinion but I'm sure sonic should have won this rematch and they should have looked alittle bit more no disrespect for mario I love both characters

In the first battle Sonic wins by tiring out Mario. He ran away until Mario got exhausted then moved in for the killing blow. Mario is more powerful than Sonic.

smashbrosproductions That’s the thing though, it’s not about should or shouldn’t. It CANT be realistically measured. Take the castle for instance, if you scale the castle to Mario the castle is only 2x as big as him which means it’s at most a 10ft y’all castle that he punts, but they apply the level itself and conclude it’s a lot bigger. So which do you measure the one where you actually get a size comparison or a hypothetical?

Sonic and Tails have a notable power gap between them with a lack of any Super forms for Tails and he only ever keeps up with Sonic, he doesn’t match his speed. For Mario and Luigi, it’s a coin toss on which one is stronger than the other.
