I believe he donated the 100k to help those with spinal cord injuries. I don't know him extremely well but I know him better than most people do and I have only seen an incredibly good human being.

@@nixedgaming He didn't sell out anybody. He didn't take money from you, he didn't steal money from anyone. If you're going to call Rener a sellout, you must also call Clark Gracie a sellout, because he agreed with Rener despite being Sinistro's expert witness. A man's neck was broken by a BJJ coach and Rener was asked to give a professional opinion. Expert witnesses get paid for their time. Sinistro admitted he was being reckless, Rener was right. Deal with it.

A tiny detail - Rener recently did a KZbin video in gi setting up something similar, but using knee on belly. Anyway, when he opened up arm for the Americana, he made a point of the fact he was using double c grips, and not gable grips as you are using here. He didn't explain, and YMMV etc. It's just a detail I remembered from that video and so noting it here. Thanks for sharing!
@TeachMeGrappling
@TeachMeGrappling Жыл бұрын
Yes we did that one too and you're right he did do it with c clamps! I'm always telling students not to use their thumbs on gable gripping that I didn't use the c clamp which I do agree is better overall on this application.

Always appreciate your balanced approach and trying to keep the peace in bjj. Both Rener and Ryron are great teachers and also promote clean living. So I always recommend them. My first 6 months of jiu jitsu was as a Gracie academy student training with just 1 teen-ager from church. Then I joined an academy and was every bit as good as most of the 6 monthers there. Im blue belt now and I still reference my online content on gracie university. 💯

Thanks coach! I do not think anyone doesn't like Rener. We do not know him personally. People critic the whole blue belt via online classes. Its a valid point. I like his curriculum based teaching especially when he first introduced it years it was huge. If you want to talk about controversial people if you have a Lloyd Irvin move that be nice.

I don't know why would anyone dislike him?! I'm grateful for his free online teachings and instructionals and the coolest personality. In some of his academies I heard they dont let students do positional sparring till the blue level, maybe it's the owners' personal choice. I disagree with that concept, but who am I to tell anyone what to do. Want to roll? Join the gym where they do on day one.
@BOBBOB-tx7ox

Gracie University slowly eases the students into sparring. First Gracie University teaches the 36 techniques that a white belt student would need in a real fight. Once the students gets used to the body contact and gains a combatives belt the student starts the rolling process. In my opinion this reduces injuries and slowly builds the reflexes needed to survive, learn and grow.
@dpeshy6719
@dpeshy6719 Жыл бұрын
@@BOBBOB-tx7ox I agree there are some ppl that need time to get used to the body contact. It sounds like a strategy to build them up mentally to have a positive experience and positive reinforcement every time they come to training. I can tell ya from my personal experience of 2.5 yrs, the best lessons are learnt through failure and reality checks in free & positional sparring. A perfectly learned technique will fall apart in a fraction of a second in realife sparring test because of one small overlooked detail, an inch or a few angles of incorrect positioning. Let alone fatigue, exhaustion of a real "fight". Happens so often. These nuances are learned and absorbed only "under fire". I cannot imagine the level of shuttering frustration for a blue belt whose moves fail against a seasoned 2-3 stripe white belt that already had around 3 competitions and countless hours of positional sparring. If they are meant to quit, they will regardless, whether after a month or a year.

@@BOBBOB-tx7ox That's the technical/official statement. But, even though we don't do rolling until we get out the beginner's class, we started doing positional sparring/scenario rolling at white belt 2 stripe. As the OP mentioned, it may be different for each gym though, and is at the discretion of that coach. But, I believe it should become a standard part of the curriculum. For a lot of people, not rolling until 8 to 12 months after you start (average time to combatives belt) is crazy; damn near blasphemous. I think it would bridge the gap between the 2 approaches. Also, I got super excited once we started doing scenario rolling, even though I lost. I dived knee deep into bjj videos for days to see how I could improve where I went wrong. And, the same thing happened the next week. But, it's still a lot safer than an all out roll, and you understand basic bjj at that point which is very important instead of being a spazzing white belt

the moment they lower their hands past the shoulderline - I attack Marcelo's N-S choke.. that normally would bring at least one arm up for defense, and would give me the side to enter with this technique .. so I'm loving this. Thank you for sharing and always making it simple and effective in bite-size pieces. I know I missed some fine details but I equally know I'll come back, re-watch, then go back on the mat and eventually pull it off.. great concepts and tons of options from there with opened neck and isolated limbs.. pure dominance :D
