Your fence and front yard is absolutely gorgeous! We relocated from Whidbey Island WA to Oklahoma. Bought a charming home built in 1951. The windows are absolutely awful. I’m considering contacting our local Renewal by Andersen. Thank you for posting this video, it’s very helpful.

Hi Randall, this video series has given us the information to understand how poorly our entire home window and door installation was done by Lowe’s Home Centers and Incredible Installations of Atlanta, GA. Window sashes that do not lock in the vertical tracks, a window like yours that is installed outside of the wall, no use of sill, jamb, or header flashing tape, header flashings removed from multiple windows, reuse of existing trim and vinyl J-channels, and on and on! Many thanks and wish us luck as we work to have these issues corrected.

Nice video, that looked like a good amount of work for those 2 since they needed to open up the opening bigger, I look forward to seeing the interior finish as well, I am an installer at Andersen myself down in La/Oc area .

Thank you for your comment! I will be posting more videos of this RBA project, eventually, but for now my attention is elsewhere. That said, I spoke with the Project Manager at RBA just today to schedule a time for replacing the two, large picture windows that have haze and marks between the window panes most visible when the fall and winter sun strikes these windows. Two other slider windows have already been replaced due to manufacturer flaws. So check back from time to time!

When we met with the Andersen Project Consultant, he didn't know how our 80 year old window sashes would be removed. I explained we didnt want the original wooden window molding damaged. I called the Andersen Installation Department, and was told CUSTOMERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO TALK TO THE WINDOW INSTALLERS! And he couldn't explain how much would have to be removed from the window opening to install the Andersen Windows. Who would ever hire anyone to work on their home without knowing them and the extent of the work! Andersen had rhe highest project cost of everyone we interviewed. We are in Southeast Pennsylvania.

Just got a quote to replace two larger double hung windows and a patio door with a transom. Windows not available till October 2023 and Door not till February 2024. Installation quote $25,000. These guys are not cheap. If you have gold bars falling out of your backside……use these guys.

I’m in San Francisco and got quoted $7200 for two large double hung windows. I feel like it’s a lot too but I don’t want to be stuck with bad installation.

Rep out of Chattanooga quoted $54,644 to replace our old doors and install four outswing Anderson 400 Doors. Same door at Home Depot is $5,300 . I'll bet I can get them installed for less than the $33,000 difference.

Hey all. My mom ordered 1 giant slider last June (2021). They haven't installed it. All we get are excuses after 10k down. Seems they have lots of time for this nearby though. I'm pretty sure they'll just keep the money and ignore the installation.

How strange! The windows in this house are very new, why should they be replaced? Could it be a deliberate advertisement for the company?

This is explained in the description. The picture windows were replaced twice by another company and each time, they had marks and haze between the glass panes. So we hired RBA! Thank you for your comment!

No refund! They did offer to replace the windows for a fourth time, but we were done with this company and their flawed windows. I'm hoping to recover some of the cost with my series of Renewal by Anderson videos. Thank you for your comment and for visiting my channel! - Randall

I would charge double if a homeowner wanted to hang over my shoulder! I'm always amazed how many contractors say the previous job was done incorrectly! As if they are going to do it right!

It doesn't bother me at all when they want to hang out. They're curious. I do agree all contractors say that, but in my experience it's usually because codes were different at the time.

I think this is another scam in the world or window and door replacement. Most of our houses were poorly insulated and especially the insulation around the windows . Most of the homes have fiberglass insulation jammed in To accomplish a proper upgrade the old window should come out. The molding inside taken down. Removal of the fiberglass stuffed in-between the framing out . Spray foam used to seal the space around the window to cut down or eliminate air penetrations. This becomes a big problem for overall cost and time. After you get the window properly insulated and installed you will need new molding cut and possibly some sheet rock repair and paint. I was able to accomplish this with a friend who is a contractor but I cant imagine hiring a window contractor and getting in writing how I want the job done. I respect that time is money and I would pay if not off the charts but this type of professional installation probably is not worth the effort because it is easier to take short cuts. And also remember to remove a window will also cause maybe the opening to be made bigger on the outside so if you have vinyl siding it will need to be recapped . I have four Andersen tilt in double hung windows across the front of my home. They are terrible the windows allow air penetration by design. I got sucked in with the ease of cleaning the windows would be. I can count how many times I actually cleaned them . I say do it right if you can contract with someone who will do it right..
