Renovation of two 90-year-old Dinky models. Hotchkiss and MG Record Car. 1935 and 1939.

The Dinky models in today's video date back to the 1930s. The first of them, called Hotchkiss, was produced by the Meccano company in 1935, while the second MG to break speed records was created in 1939. Both models were very simply built. They had no suspension and the Hotchkiss didn't even have a chassis. I renovated these old models in an unconventional way. I did a two-color painting and installed a crystal reflector in place of the Hotchkiss lamp. I also equipped both models with boxes, although in the 1930s they were packed in bulk packages of 6 pieces. Thank you for watching the video, I publish car repair videos on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Absolutely inspired work. All the additional putty, filing, dremeling and prep work was amazing. Thorough and meticulous. The paint schemes work perfectly on the two body types. The trick, fancy MG decals look era and correct. The Hotchkiss aluminum center accent surprised the hell out me! A+ all the way, Maestro!!❤❤😊

Superb! Outsanding restoration on these vintage streamliners. Glad to see that the castings are sound. With some early castings from some manufacturers, this wasn't so. The model could suffer from the terminal, dreaded Zinc Pest. Largely unknown on newer castings as the quality control of the casting metal improved.

You are very lucky. Quite a few early Dinky models have succumbed to a type of metal fatigue that we now call 'ZAMAC Rot'. I had some Dinky aircraft from the early 1950's. They all, decayed to different extents - cracks over the surface, to one, a Gloster Meteor literally crumbling to dust as I picked it up. Your two beautiful cars seem fine though. Your lovely work, bringing these back to life, made me very happy. Thank you. 👍👍👍

I've read somewhere that the rot comes from too much lead within the Zamac alloy. the lead would start to rot and break apart the alloy's structure. a similar problem comes up with real cars where zamac parts are chromed. the chrome layer might break eventually and the zinc below starts to rot, and there is nothing you can do against it. I have had two or three more modern castings (even into the 90's) where one part, or the whole body, would crumble away. I suspect a new batch of alloy not mixed thoroughly before used, and the results slipped quality control. feel free to correct me if you know more.

@@lotharrenz4621 - There should be no lead in ZAMAC, which is an acronym for Zinc, Aluminium, Magnesium And Copper, which was designed as a durable and non toxic metal for use in toy manufacturing, to totally replace lead. It's harder, and can take fine detail better.

Zwei großartig restaurierte Modelle die sicherlich sehr selten sind. Traumstücke für Sammler. Sehr gute Arbeit.
