Being a Volvo guy in the US I just might fit in the crazy Volvo club in Japan. Had a very rare 740 Turbo that was built for a Belgium Police department so it had the euro cop motor in it. I no longer have that car due to a horrific divorce. Sorry guys.

For those of you who now want a backup alarm in the states, amazon sells a programmable 12v buzzer for about $30 that should hopefully do the same thing. all you'll have to do is get the audio for it, which shouldn't be hard if you look around. haven't done it yet myself but it shouldn't be too difficult

Technically GMCs are geared toward people that work in construction and the Chevys are for the masses. My in laws have had Yukons, Sierras and Acadias. Honestly the only thing is the interior trim and some parts are nicer on GMCs.

In the 1990's there were companies like California Custom USA customizing brand new Astros and shipping them direct to Japan. There are plenty of Astros over there.

Alexi, or anyone outside the US that is interested to learn: GMC is kind of an up-scale Chevy. Many of their models are just re-badged Chevy models with higher trim, usually leather, chrome on the exterior and minor visual differences. (SOME) truck guys used to tease GMC owners, saying that GMC stands for Gay Man's Chevy.

GMC Safaris to my knowledge are just fancier Chevrolet Astros. Thing about GM is that they tend to have different model names for what is essentially the same vehicle, and it's especially egregious when it comes to their trucks. I know that the Suburban was produced under both the Chevrolet and GMC names until the latter was renamed as the Yukon/Yukon XL.

I lived in Germany for a decade. Taking the Autobahn every day was a joy, even in my dad's AE86. We used to see Ferrari and Porsche, but the real rockets of the Bahn were Volvo 760R and 850R wagons. Someone may have already said this but the Safari is GMC and the Astro is Chevy. GMC to Chevy is like Lincoln to Ford. They are basically the same vehicle but GMC has a more classy trim package than Chevy.

The gmc safari is a much more luxurious van than your run of the mill astro. Its a gmc truck not a chevy so its trchnically a different brand but the only differences were the badging and grille. You could easily get a chevy astro optioned out the same. Kind of weird for general motors to compete with itself like that but what do i know?

I built a chevy astro and put a 400hp v8 in it. Gave it custom grafix paint, lowered and rims. It was a wild little drag racing van that was really fun to drive race and carry friends around with.

I actually live really close to a place that does conversions on those gmc safari and Chevy astro vans right out of the factory, some just standard conversions but some really tricked out ones for celebrities etc so I've seen so many of them customized. Never expected to see them in Japan though. Btw the safari and astro are the same just ones gmc and ones Chevy and they have different trim levels etc.
