Check out I C Weld. He has equivalent or better skills, plus he uses a arc torch to gouge out welds, and has a better grounding in structural stresses. While this repair is pretty, all it has done is move the next breakage further down the boom.

Here lately mine look like hell too. The company I work for now uses propane torches. It's hard for me to transition from acetylene to propane. If the wind blows it'll screw up your cut

I've never seen anyone use a torch with such precision. Those cut lines are perfectly straight and the points of the stars perfect. 100% respect 🙏

@@williepelzer384 I retired from the Chemical plants and refineries as an industrial electrician... so I really don't know stress points and such.... etc.... but i have seen a lot of iron work done.... I didn't realize that was a plasma torch too... 😳... I don't know why, but welders and Electricians always seem to but heads... but I've always had respect for the talent it takes.

​@@SteelToes As a Welder/Fabricator with 30 years in, I can confirm we do "butt heads" with eachother 🙂 It comes from a good place though, being critical of eachothers work is a way we use to keep eachother on their toes, you would be surprised at how quickly someone's work quality degrades if someone isn't there reminding them that they could do better. I agree with the previous poster though, round or oval holes would be preferable to sharp corners on the fish plate. If you want to see some quality work, watch Cutting Edge channel out of Australia, he does some nice work... I only have to criticize him in the comments occasionally 🙂

Actually, it could... the star shapes on the fish plate should be round or oval holes, the sharp points on the stars will cause stress cracks to form at the points.

The crack will transfer to the lapping plate . Nice job with the torch blowing the weld out. The stars are cool but will be problematic in the future.

Simple metal fatigue from use.

@@JackHudler It was way too long in use and poorly maintained then. If you maintain your tools properly, you will recognize fatigue and repair or change parts before something like that big part seen here breaks from fatigue.

I wouldn't trust it. He didn't even degree bevel angle (37.5) the two metal to weld no hot root pass..... just clean the cracks and weld it. 😂
