So many of the LCD's fail just like this, with the screens blanking out. Thanks so much, since I'm positive that my 85' will need at least the outside sensor to begin with. We will have to wait and see where the monitor comes out. Best wishes.

Mine consistantly shows +58C... in Poland, in November! (with snow on the ground)
@straybenzes

That is most likely due to a cold / cracked solder joint on the printed circuit board.

QUESTION: Thank you for your video. I have a w126. Both the power to the radio AND the rear screen defroster stopped working at the same time. Did I accidentally disconnect a wire or plug in the trunk or rear seat areas?

Hmm. That is two separate circuits on fuse 2, 3, 7, and 18. Are all those fuses in good shape?

I saw some US model cars showing celsius on that display, is it possible to switch fahrenheit to celsius? or you need whole new assembly for that?
@straybenzes
@straybenzes Жыл бұрын
I have not found the mechanism by which one could switch the unit of measure. Switching the display is easy enough though.

Great. Thanks! (Where did you get your 12 volt power tool power supply? It's compact and looks to be very helpful!)

It comes in very handy and is an older cordless drill battery. Most are +18V, but you may still be able to get replacements. I use it a lot to keep power applied to newer car systems so I do not have to reprogram radio, etc.

Hello,how did you take out this instrument from the main board? Thanks.
@straybenzes
@straybenzes 2 жыл бұрын
You need to take out (at least partially) the whole instrument cluster. There is a video on my channel on how to do that. If you only partially take out the the cluster you will need a very short phillips head screw driver to loosen the two screws holding the temp display in place. It is fairly easy to pull this instrument out. Good luck.

Hi Ralph. I had hoped to see how you get it in the dash. Do you push it in from the back of the binackl, or do you have to take that out completely to get it in. Mine does not work but it is a 2001 so may be completely different. I like everything to work on my car but with all the electronics that's not going to happen. I'm still fighting with the alternator. I have another one coming today that was tested as working but I'm not confident. Is there a fuse or relay in the charging system on these? Can the SAM go bad? 2hat a nightmare!
@straybenzes
@straybenzes 4 жыл бұрын
On a W126 you need to either take the cluster out completely like shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJLGmGWtpdqmhs0 or you partially move it forward and use your precision swiss army type hands and a very short phillips screw driver to remove the two screws that hold the display in place. The display comes out toward the back, It is briefly shown at minute 3.56. When you are talking about your 2001 car I am assuming that this is a W210. The cluster comes out pretty much the same way. The display is a completely different type though. The folks from Pelican have a pretty good write up about how to remove the cluster. www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Mercedes-Benz/37-ELEC-Replacing_Instrument_Cluster_Light_Bulbs/37-ELEC-Replacing_Instrument_Cluster_Light_Bulbs.htm

@@straybenzes Hi Ralph. I have researched this and discovered that the center display is a plug in unit. That makes it easy to replace. I hsve ordered one of those and also got the two tools to remove the binnacle. However, the two side displays, one for temp and one for the clock, are sodered in and looks to complicated for me. I'll have to see if I can find someone to do that. I will wait till I get the new center screen to take the unit out of the dash. Thanks.

Good afternoon, I have a 5-pin screen, well, it doesn't matter, the question is, the screen is on, the backlight of the screen, but does not show the numbers, is it somehow being repaired or not at all?
@straybenzes
@straybenzes 3 жыл бұрын
If the screen still looks grey and not black then you may be in luck. What I would do is to take the unit apart and resolver all solder joints. Good luck!

There is no easy way to do that. You are better off getting another display. Put up yours for sale it should help offset the cost of another unit.

Hello, on a 1988 300SEL, aside from the trunk where could the stereo amplifier be located. I checked the trunk and there is no Amplifier. trying to replace factory stereo with New stereo, but i can not get the speakers to work. Was told there is an amplifier in the trunk on the driver side. I checked and there is none. Can you help please.
@straybenzes
@straybenzes 4 жыл бұрын
The stereo system amplifier sits in the passenger side foot well behind the large plastic panel under the carpet. The car alarm unit is also mounted there. Give it a try. It is really easy to get to.
