Spent many hours on a 140. Dynahoes are good machines but just a few things to watch for that 1 inch main feed line for the boom cylinder if it shows any cracking replace it or you'll take shower, ask me how I know 😅. The radiators like to crack on the bottom of the fins from all the vibration (get a new one and make it fit don't look for a used one it'll do the same). The blower has a square key inside that goes on the outside of the shaft they also like to wear from vibration (it'll idle up like crazy and then cut off it that goes). Check around the mounting points for the lift cylinders for the loader they like to Crack just gouge it out and weld it good before it separates and moves. Last do yourself a favor when you're running the hoe get it up to atleast 2000 rpms the hydraulics run alot smoother and easier when they have the right pressure and they don't call them screaming Jimmy's for nothing 😅 get a good set of ear plugs. Otherwise nice machine treat it good and it'll last you a long time best of luck with it.

Your short video of the inside of the valve body was seriously outstanding. It reminded me of when I went to C school for Coast Guard Sikorsky HH52a Seaguard helo flight mechanic training. We had to color in a printed drawing of all the passages and other areas of the T58 Turboshaft engine with each color representing fuel, air and oil pressurized and not pressurized. The fuel management unit was the hardest. That thing had well over a dozen routes fuel could be metered and routed according to which fuel it was set for You could definitely make a great vocational school instructor. They can burn pretty much any combustible fluid. Even peanut butter oil of all things.

At 25:00 on your video timeline you are replacing a damaged backup ring on a swivel valve. It appears that the location of the backup ring is toward the area of where the oil under pressure will be located. Backup rings are normally (in every case that I am aware of) outboard of the oil seal. They prevent the seal (o-ring in your case) from extruding out of their groove when exposed to fluid under high pressure. Backup rings are made of material firmer than the seals they are protecting and have a snug fit in the bore that the seal is sealing against. If you have a parts manual for your machine it should verify the correct orientation of seals-to-backup rings in the swivel valve. . I love your videos and admire your willingness to tackle projects that you have not had prior experience with. Thank you for sharing your life with the rest of the world.

A really good way to mark where hoses and other items attach together is use a Dremel tool to engrave matching numbers or symbols on each where they contact each other. Tape and other items can get knocked off or broken but engraving stays on forever. On hoses you put it on the fittings. I've done that an uncounted number of times.

I'm not certain what the recommended idle speed is of a Detroit, but having two torque converter tractors makes me think your idle speed is a little too high that is causing your backhoe to jump pretty good when you stick it in gear. Typically mine will just faintly change engine sounds when I put it in gear. You might try to see if you can turn the idle down and see if that improves your finesse when trying to do delicate work. Great videos! I'm a new subscriber...look forward to the next.

I see you have found the “extra” gear, 50 years ago this type of excavator was moved site to site under its own power. To move faster on down grades, neutral was selected! Also if the machine started to travel a little too fast the emergency Brake was used, “ drop the front bucket”. Enjoying the videos thank you.

Your holes came out but get yourself a cheap set of Chinese reamers for the bushing and pin holes, it leaves allot smoother hole which means it lasts longer and operates smoother. Get a can of starter fluid and use a tiny .5 second squirt, I use it every single time I start my machine unless it's above 75 degrees. You aren't hurting anything, you are doing more damage by laboring the starter with the battery struggling. If you continue to have starting issues you may want to buy a different set of injectors, they make all the difference in the world. I had one set that fired up in the cold and immediately and another set that only started when it was warm out or it took allot of starter fluid. Place in Boston got me all the 3-53 parts, I can find them again if you cannot...

While operating a backhoe, it’s best to flip the front bucket forward all the way and push it down to lift the front tires off the ground. Then flip the feet of the outriggers over and lower them until the rear tires are off the ground. This will give the best traction in dirt for digging.

I have the 3-53 in my loader and for cold-weather starting, here’s the trick. There’s a pipe plug in the blower housing (7/16” wrench needed) and if you remove that plug, all it takes is a tiny, tiny sniff of ether and she’ll fire right up. Or you could go the “Gear-reduction starter, giant battery” route. Of course, they make fancy ether systems that you can run right into that hole too. Good luck, at any rate. Love these vids.

For the problem with the outriggers you could just put a shutoff valve in the lines between the valveblock and each zylinder from the outriggers. That might prevent them from going down every time. Allthough great video, keep going👍

I would pretty well bet that the center ports are your power beyond portion of the valve that allows you to continue to have multiple simultaneous functions of the valve body, otherwise when the individual levers are pulled you would the ability to "blend" multiple controls. hence, an "open center" hydraulic system. Enjoy watching your vids btw!!!!!!!
@WaldosWorld
@WaldosWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That sounds like a good explanation!
@RiverValleyLandscaping
@RiverValleyLandscaping Жыл бұрын
@@WaldosWorldmy understanding of open center is that hydraulic fluid is constantly running through the valve at all times then returned to tank. When the spool is shifted it calls for fluid to send to cylinder. Power beyond would send full pressure to another valve in-line after the backhoe valve.

@@WaldosWorld Nice work! PS when cold cranking, don't just keep going, crank for 10s then stop to let the heat of compression warm the cylinder. Just cranking a lot keeps drawing more cold air in so it takes longer than crank, wait, crank wait etc. It also allows the battery to recover a bit if you don't hit it so hard and then keep hitting it even though it's starting to slow eg the voltage is falling off a cliff.

Again you do not let anything stop you even if you haven’t ever done it before. I like that . When I started working for Cat even though I had worked on trucks and farm equipment, I had little experience on the big Cat’s but I learned real quick most of the breakdowns were 30 - 50 miles one way from parts or shop and the Manuals or the shop guys who would really give you a hard time for having to come in. I became a collector of part sheets, if I could see the inside of the valves or cylinders I could figure how it came apart or went back together. I did the same thing when I worked for the FD pumps which got me doing a lot more worked than I thought. No more money but lots of time when others where watching TV. Anyway I loved it all. Now a personal question and a please. The hair cut are you still in a Military Unit or just like the high and tight ? Now the please STOP using a claw hammer for a mechanic hammer ! They are different the claw hammer well chip and when you use for what they are made for they will be off balance. A ball pin hammer is made for working with metal of all types but always protect for your eyes. Always a great video!

Can you give us some specifics about the machine such as what it was used for previously, why the motor failed, how many hours it has?
@WaldosWorld
@WaldosWorld 3 жыл бұрын
It has 8500 hours on it. I was told that it was a municipal machine originally, though I don't know more about the history. The engine was seized due to water that leaked into cylinder #1 and caused it to rust while the machine had been sitting for years. The previous owner told me it had a bad head gasket, though I purchased it assuming it would need a total rebuild

Hi waldo ..I follow your journey with your dyna hoe...I had a 1976 slightly different but not by much..here are a few tips...when you try to start..only turn over until you see white smoke..then wait a few seconds and turn over again to see smoke..wait again and it will start without taking the batteries down Another cause I’d the shit starter a 35 series deltoid...if you are not too cheap a good replacement is a MT 40 from a Mack...but I did this to mine before 2000 ...the preferred replacement would be a permanent magnet gear reduction starter...certainly less weight and so much easier to install...plus the cranking speed is awesome When it did not start I was reminded of my struggle to get mine rite...now decades later after 3 jcb hoes I really don’t miss my dyna hoe as much....but it is a awesome machine...not many machines today can match its power One other tip..always reseal the outriggers together....question how many hrs are on your machine..and one other thing is to change the water pump as the bearings go away and take out the radiator

Hey man I like your vids very much, Buuuuut I have a question, did you ever get around to replacing the hydraulic filter, that might help with keeping the valves form getting worse as you might have dirt and other contamination in your fluid as we saw when you drained the system. On the topic of contamination in the hydraulic fluid you might want to wrap a tarp over the engine bay when your not using the Dyno, rain water is most likely making its way in to the reservoir thru leaks in the cap also it's not good for other components of the engine to be exposed all the time either, anyway I look forward to the day you fab a new hood for the old Dyno (in now its probably not a priority but a tarp, ugly as it will be will keep your investment safe when your not using it) PS the rotten hoses stare into my soul lol Keep up the good work.

Thanks! I did replace the hydraulic filter, but somehow the footage got left out of the video. Yeah, I'll definitely replace those hoses at some point, but at least they're not leaking yet 😬

Those batteries l have had no luck with on equipment. I think they were designed for racing. They never had enough reserve.

These ones were allowed to fully discharge by the previous owner of a vehicle I got them from (the Dodge RAM Cummins donor truck), so even though they're still fairly new (and expensive!), they don't hold a charge very well 🤷‍♂️

I measured with calipers and ordered the o-rings from McMaster-Carr -- they're a great source for hardware and related stuff 👌

I really ask you to add a subtitle function to the video so that you can turn on the translation .. Your videos are very interesting to me, but I do not know English, you have already used subtitles, but here is the last video without .. I would be very grateful to you for that!

KZbin automatically generates the subtitles without action on my part, so I guess it might take a little time for them to be available. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
