Wow, what a beauty. I always had somewhat of an issue with the G# cluster being so low but the sound makes up for this.

I have an SML tenor (branded King Marigaux) that came with a brochure which was copyright 1979. So, they were still being made in 1979 for sure.

notice the funny looking pinky plateau. Actually that is a reminence of the Rene Guenot who designed and made the very first SML saxophones. I just by sheer luck came across one of the prototypes made by Rene Guenot for SML named Dore. It has engraving in the low Bb cup inside with name and statement that it is a prototype made for SML in french of cause. So the first SML actually was a Rene Guenot Super Artist Model. Go figure :-)

How you get them looking so shiny (even better than when brand new ) is something I''ll never understand .I am right in the middle of doing a DIY complete overhaul of my 57 year old HOHNER PRESIDENT TENOR .I can never get that finish you get .Wish I could come over there to see you at work . Great work Matt . Wish you all the best

Hi Matt, how goes it? Love your tutorials, brilliantly informative I have to say! I had a query you might be able to help me with. I am saxophonist some 35 years or so now. I have not had the opportunity to get my hands on an SML as yet. But I do have the chance to try a Gold Medal silver or perhaps it is nickle plated Alto. Good condition, most of the plate has worn off, and it is need of a complete overhaul, but it's straight and well cared for. I wanted to ask your oppinon of these horns? I think it's the first generation Gold Medal. And how would you rate them next to a Beuscher Aristocrat? I have my eye of one of each. Hope all is well with you. All the best

I would kill for a Coleman Hawkins tenor.

+Tools240 Not the first person I've heard say that. For the record, I do not own these and I don't know where they are kept. :-)
