What a great little side tip you gave around 9:06 - "Always put these back in by hand. Don't try to put them by a socket, you can cross thread. If you don't feel it with your hands you won't know what you're doing so put them in by hand, turn them by hand, go as far as you can"

A friend reported that her 2012 CLS550 with 90,000 miles on it started to display the "Check Engine Light". She said she experienced no other symptoms. The Mercedes dealership said she needed to: REPLACE ALL CAMSHAFT SENSORS ALL CAM MAGNETS ALL O2 SENSORS ALL INJECTORS (CHECK ENGINE) at a cost of $7,220. Also, the dealership wanted to REPLACE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS (CHECK ENGINE) for a cost of $6,075, REPLACE ME CONTROL UNIT (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) for $1,175.00, and 3.00HRS TO REMOVE SPARK PLUGS AND INSPECT PISTONS FOR OIL INCURSION . Did you perform the relearn procedure for the camshaft position sensor? I saw some videos for other vehicles where they used an expensive scanner to do the relearn. Do we need to do this relearn for an ML350 2011? The reason I am asking is because I took out the 2 camshaft position sensors and rotated the crankshaft to 305 degrees and found the 2 circles centered perfectly. However, I still got the dreaded P0017 code after I replaced all 4 sensors i.e., 2 new Bosch camshaft position sensors and 2 new Mercedes camshaft adjuster magnets on the passenger side. I don't know what is the issue that is causing the code to remain. Is there a possibility that one of the new sensors is not working?

Excellent video as usual. What is your view on coating the 'O'-Rings in a thin coat of oil before seating them in place, I picked that up somewhere years ago. It is meant to prevent the 'O-Ring' from drying out and also to create a better seal. I am just an enthusiast amateur mechanic, not in your league, but I love to learn about the small details as they can make a lot of difference (like hand screwing in those bolts so as not to cross-thread the block, great tip!). I would love to know your take on this, I have liked, shared and subscribed, Top man!!!
@iRepairAutos5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I have seen guys use oil on the 'O'-Rings. In this case, it shouldn't hurt because these o-rings are oil resistant. Some o-rings that are used in a non-oil environment may not be oil resistant and may break down because of the oil - In that scenario, silicone lubricant grease is supposedly the best for this. I am an enthusiast amateur mechanic myself ;) Thanks for watching, liking and sharing and most of all the leaving a comment.

Dielectric grease is silicone based and also repels water, I have used it before on the ignition system, I can't remember which part now, (plugs or points?) Great Video! Need to ask a question as you seem to understand this well. I had the Check Engine light pop up on my 2006 SLK280 . A scan showed the P0015 code. It was the only code pulled up. Researching it, I found your video and saw what an easy job it was. Then, I notice the Check Engine light is now off after a few days of being on. My dilemma is should I take that as a defective sensor (for it to go on & off) and replace it anyway or am I OK and good to go? I just purchased the vehicle and had it checked prior to buying. Carfax was clean. The car only has 44K miles and the pre-purchase inspection came back good. I have less than 150 mi on it yet since I got it. Any recommendation? Thanks in advance!

After half hour engine cooled bit more and first attempt it started drove home , towards the 15 minute drive got the check engine light. Put my scanner code 0340 I believe, reset check engine ran an hour rat idle truck did not stalled. Few minutes later ran another 15 minutes and it did shut engine with check engine light. Needless to say, I'm looking for 2nd/3rd opinions and info. If oil is actually leaking from these magnets (the 2 round parts), would there be accompanying parts requiring replacement that might make each one cost this much?? Any symptoms you know about for the cam position sensors not working.
@iRepairAutos10 ай бұрын
Yes, a malfunctioning camshaft position sensor (CMP) can lead to various symptoms in a vehicle. Some common signs of a faulty camshaft position sensor include: 1. Engine Misfires: If the sensor is not providing accurate timing information to the engine control unit (ECU), it can cause misfires, which may result in rough idling, hesitation, or stumbling during acceleration. 2. Difficulty Starting: A failing camshaft position sensor can lead to issues with starting the engine, including extended cranking times or the engine not starting at all. 3. Decreased Fuel Efficiency: Incorrect timing information from the camshaft position sensor can lead to inefficient fuel combustion, resulting in decreased fuel efficiency. 4. Stalling: In some cases, a malfunctioning camshaft position sensor can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly, especially during idle or low-speed driving. 5. Check Engine Light: A faulty camshaft position sensor often triggers the check engine light to illuminate on the dashboard. Retrieving the trouble codes using an OBD-II scanner can help diagnose the issue further.

The video was well done. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I however would like to clarify some information. The item you replaced is not called a gasket, it’s called an “O” ring. iRepair Autos so, get rid of this car is what you're saying?
@iRepairAutos7 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying that at all. You have to make sure that the problem is truly the balance shaft. Let's say that it is the balance shaft... Your options vary depending on the miles on the vehicle. Mercedes will fix the problem with no cost to you if the vehicle is under don't quote me on this (verify with Mercedes) 120k miles... Please verify with Mercedes. I If you are over the miles for the free repairs then weigh your options on how much it will cost to get it repaired vs how much a new car will cost you. Many people trade in their car once they find out that they truly have this issue. This job is a big one requiring the engine to be taken out of the car. Its a pain. Then you have to pull the motor apart and get the timing and everything correct when putting it back together. I wouldn't recommend you doing this job by yourself

Hi there, have been your subscriber for a while. That was the first video, I've seen on youtube while trying to resolve the rattle noise issue on my w211 (m273 - 2007 model). Can you pls answer my question: My car has slightly noticeable rattle noise for about 5 seconds once engine started. What I've noticed, that it happens once car left for sometime but mostly on cold engine. I do guess the problem might be with oil insufficiency in a drip pan and when I run the car after leaving it for sometime drip pan gets some kind of emptied, so first 5 seconds there's no oil coming to the engine. (have to mention that there's no oil leakage on the engine). However, its still my personal assumption...Could you pls guide me, what could be a possible reason of the problem? Thank you in advance.

Check your oil level, it might be low. Also what grade of oil are you using? You should be using synthetic oil. Check your manual for the correct grade.

Keith i have a c350 with code p0016 do i have a major problem also have misfire codes
@zxtenn7 жыл бұрын
Same 350 you replaced the oil cooler gasket on?? Do you have any input due to using synthetic oil and that is supposedly dries the rubber at a faster rate than conventional oil? Someone who works on BMW was talking abut using synthetic and how it dries the gaskets making them brittle thus leaking? Old school beam type torque wrench certainly much cheaper than click type

+Miguel Aceves Mejía yes I can help. Gabe the SUV scanned and tell me what the error codes are. From your description of the problem, your car is going into limp mode. Let's be sure though by looking at the error codes and I'll know how to proceed.

What job does the magnetic adjuster do?
@scottmorningstar52293 жыл бұрын
It controls the oil control valve. Some vehicles combine the VVT solenoid and the oil control valve. Mercedes decided to keep them separate.

As always best videos on the net, you are a blessing, one question! I have code p0016 only, does that code tells me I have to balance the crankshaft chain? Forgive me if I didn’t elaborate on my question, I’m hopping I just need to replace those sensors, thanks again for sharing
@iRepairAutos6 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. Hopefully it's just your sensor that's gone bad. If not you're looking at a very big expensive repair. Start off by replacing the sensor. There is a technique to removing the magnets and turning the crankshaft to check for worn balance shaft. I'll do a video on it. What's the year and model as well as miles on the vehicle?
@wilborth5th6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply, hopefully is not that bad but I don’t know, we’ll see, hey thanks again for your videos, they are gold

Good to know I can just replace the gaskets. The Mercedes service wanted to replace the entire part.
@iRepairAutos8 жыл бұрын
Yes, the gaskets are replaceable. Mercedes service will want to change the entire part to avoid having to do the job twice if the part fails shortly after the work is done.
@GingerPack8 жыл бұрын
iRepair Autos Is it prone to failure? Do you advise me to replace the entire part? The ML 350 had 61455 miles on it.
@iRepairAutos8 жыл бұрын
If the vehicle is not throwing any codes (check engine light is off) I would not change a part that is not failing. This is especially true if I am doing the job myself. If you're having the work done by someone and paying them for the labor you might as well have them put a new part in so you don't have to pay for labor twice. Is the gasket leaking oil and no other symptoms? If so change the gasket. Hope this helps.
@GingerPack8 жыл бұрын
iRepair Autos well the check engine light is on . So I will replace the part as suggested. Thank so much for the advice
