That thing still has lining. When I replaced the clutch in my son's Escort, it was missing half the lining. That was why we got a heck of a deal on it. I put in a cheap $40 Chinese set and it ran until everything on the car was worn out.

Grease and the backside of a drill bit in the pilot bearing hole works well too. Make sure the drill bit is just slightly smaller than the inner diameter of thr pilot bearing and use a non-marring mallet or piece of wood to strike the drill bit so it doesn't shatter. Old farm boy trick passed down through generations.

I wouldn't use that bread trick on an Chevrolet LS or LQ, etc engine because Dave from Daves auto centre had to fix a problem up for a customer where a salesperson at AutoZone suggested that a customer use the bread trick to remove the pilot shaft bearing in his 2002 model Chevrolet Corvette. What he did was he pushed out the sealing plug so it's sideways which prevents oil from leaking out of the back of the crankshaft because the crankshaft is hollow & full of oil, apparently that's why it's important to used blue Loctite on the flywheel bolts to prevent oil leaking past the theads because the rear main oil seal journal is hollow & it's full of oil when the engine is running. So I am looking to get a pilot bearing removal tool because I am afraid to do it even with plasticine which is what I was going to do when I do my next clutch job which should be soon because the clutch is shuddering whenever I release the clutch pedal when the engine is hot. I replaced the clutch disc in 2016 when I replaced the rear main oil seal & carrier unit gasket but I didn't replace the flywheel or pressure plate because I was unemployed at the time,I also reset the pressure plate in a hydraulic press. The flywheel had high spots on it which was a worry so that's probably why the clutch pulsates as well but it's done 100,000 kilometres or 60,000 miles now. I would've had the flywheel machined in the video,in my case it was a non machineable dual mass flywheel, the new clutch kit will come with a new flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, clutch slave cylinder, pilot bearing & clutch disc aligning tool ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2TWmWmmrtJoe80si=FQ__7HQ3lwPYnUSt

Would add a touch extra wheel bearing grease there, behind the pilot bearing, to keep it nice and quiet, as the factory fill is generally not enough. Tiny amount, around 3 match heads worth, applied to the rollers. Not too much as it will ruin the clutch if it comes out.

Never tried the bread trick, guessing it's faster, since it's more a solid to compress than grease. I had 1 of those Snap On internal small slide hammers. Used grease most of the time, because it was faster than setting up and using the tool hahaha

Muricans do not know what a manual transmission is. They got to make it simple for them, including an alignment tool. In Europe, everyone had a clutch alignment set of tools that did every vehicle manufacturer. In Europe 98% of transmissions were manual and 2% Auto. It was the opposite in the US...lol.

Few years back had to change the one on my truck. I never really tried the ' hydraulic bread ' trick but it wouldn't come out even with the custom bearing puller device. I ended up using a dremel with a tiny carbide cutter I had and cut a slice in one side. It was in there pretty good.

@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA Ай бұрын
No alignment tool a broom stick works well, or that punch, and a roll of masking tape in an even layer, to build it up. Another tip is, if you are going into the clutch housing for any reason, like a main seal, or gearbox input shaft, is to replace that throw out bearing, unless it is brand new. Any wear on it cheaper to toss it and put a new one, as you already have done the labour. Should also have taken flywheel off and replaced rear main seal on that engine, they are known to leak as they age, and that one looks like it has never been off from the factory.

If that was a self adjusting clutch you should always use a clamping tool that clamps down on al fingers at the same time until the pressure just touches the flywheel, and only when the pressure plate has touched against the flywheel can the 6 bolts be tightened.
