I have taken a few cabs off of these 6.4 and for me by myself it took hour and a half with 1 of my employees to help it took 40 to 50 minutes

I just put a radiator in my 06 f250 and within a month the new one started leaking in the same place. The cab bushings makes sense. Especially since mine are worn out. My fear was the head gaskets even though it’s studded and has a very light tune on it. Definitely going to do them before head gaskets lol

I got a 6.0 and I went with the BD Manifolds and BD Up-pipes. Couldn't be more happy with the results. S&B makes the best body mount bushings too. Not much more expensive than the Ford ones and way better design.

About an hr once you have done a few. I started removing cabs on 6.0's , I remember one customer that came in and flipped out when he saw his cab off.

Take that EBP tube. Cut the factory mounting bracket off. Turn it around. Put the sensor in the end that used to connect to the up pipe. Screw the sensor side onto the block off plate with fitting you just installed. The sensor will end up close to the factory location. Wire will reach and plug up. Zip tie the EBP tube to the fuel line on the driver side head and your done. I do this all the time....

The most important part is letting the bolt cool, maybe nuts too, exhaust studs are different than regular bolts, I’ve learned the hard way when I broke a bolt head off because it didn’t cool, and then trying to torch it out and running out of gas led me to a hardened bolt shank, well drill bits prefer the sheet metal beside the bolt when that happens

I’m glad your still around , been a while since I’ve ask a question ( do you remember me ? Probably not ) I now own a 09 Ford SUPERDUTY Cabelas edition with the 6.4 , first thing I did was delete the DPF and have a tuner ( H&S ) now I was told I DONT need to remove the EGR because the tuner eliminates it from working ! Is that true or should I still delete the EGR ? By the way it’s the fastest diesel I’ve ever owned or driven now ! Lol. Thank you for your input !

Any time you disturb the up pipes (removing the turbos or engine) they should be replaced if you have some miles on them otherwise they will leak at the bellows

I inherited my '05 f350 from my Grandfather in 2016. He bought it new and basically retired as crane operator shortly after so it hardly saw winter driving (upstate NY, although now it's starting to suffer from corrosion) or high mileage. It just broke 100k last week. He always had me drive everywhere with it when we were hanging out so I know it never was abused. In 2017 I had a guy (at the recommendation of a co-worker) that was just starting out on his own, but had done about a dozen cab lifts, bulletproof the truck for me for about 5k. He said it took him a little over 4 hours, but back when he was doing it often, he would get around 3.5hrs. We kept and upgraded the EGR. He said not to worry about the oil cooler since the only issues he had was from neglect. Hope he was right.

Get rid of the EGR and put an ODAWGS Diesel Intake on it. It will completely delete all of the EGR plumbing. The only evidence you'll have that it was there is the wire/plug that used to go to the EGR valve. If you keep it you're still blowing soot into your engine which will shorten its life. Keep you're coolant fresh and you won't have a problem with the oil cooler. The 6.0 is a great engine when you get rid of the EGR.

I'm just a shade tree mechanic and I "tilt" the cab on the loosened 2 rear body bolts with 3 - 2x4 blocks in the front mount locations. Takes about an hour. TONS of room to access those up pipes. Trans cable and the master cylinder (and 2 rear bolts of course) and i could lift the cab but I'm missing the lift! Great video, But 120k on the 6.4 sounds like poor maintenance. My pop and I have 2008s and I just hit 297k and got 18MPG on a 2400 mile drive this summer. Albeit, we've been meticulous with our oil changes and deleted at 200K.

@@brycecurtis6132 Steering shaft, upper rad hose, some literature claims the master cylinder but I never have, unclip the trans lines from the frame, battery cables, emergency brake cable and the front 6 body mount bolts (they come pretty easily if you heat them with a torch. That's pretty much it.

You should have upgraded the body mount bushings to S&B body mount bushings they are a 100% silicone and have a life time warranty. They do not cost that much more than the factory ones. The ride is so much better than the stock ones and in 3 years you won't need to replaced them again.

Do you not own a 2 foot power bar? thats how i remove subframe bolts they are usually M12's with captive nuts on cars i work on, they always comes loose with a power bar its all well and good owning an impact gun but even if you have a decent one like i do you still end up using a power bar sometimes

The forst cab i took off a 2006 superduty took me 6 hours or so i will not do that any more to do a head job when it takes 5 hours to pull the heads.

that is wild... ford finally succeeded in building an engine that will just barely make it out of warranty period. my grandfather worked for ford for decades on the line.. the durability testing you may have seen in commercials was not to make sure it was a good product.. only that it was good enough to last thru warranty periods so you end up paying for their adjusting the design to fail when its your dime. ford did this in the 1990s with the 3.8L V6 in cars.. one was lucky to get 110K before either the head gaskets failed or the timing cover gasket failed and dumped coolant into the crankcase.. killing the bearings and overheating the engine at the same time. Stephen.. since you never read the comments.. i will ask you a technical question. i too am a mechanic.. understand EGR flow uses. in Gasoline engines.. the EGR flow reduces the percentage of oxygen in the air fuel ratio.. reducing the heat of combustion to get the combustion temps below 2600F where NOX forms.. the manufacturers have found that by reducing the fuel curve to match the reduced oxygen content of the incoming air and egr charge.. they can get better fuel economy out of engines.. this is also the reason that when you disconnect an EGR valve or make it non functional on a gasoline engine it PINGS LIKE HELL.. the full 21% oxygen is getting into the combustion chambers when the computer is only spraying enough for a reduced oxygen content so the engine runs LEAN and it pings.. the lean mixture also expands the pistons and rings in the bores till the oil clearance is removed and the pistons rub directly against the cylinder wall. this melts the pistons.. the molten aluminum sticks to the cylinder walls and then the rings pick it up and try to scrape it off. this lifts the rings off the cylinder wall and lets combustion gasses flow past melting the piston ring lands. so.. in electronic fuel injected diesels.. do the manufactures have a reduced fuel curve to match the EGR Flow reducing the Oxygen content in the combustion mixture. if so.. will that lean out the diesel and kill the engine much sooner.. pounding the rod bearings. scuffing the pistons .. gouging the cylinder walls. just thoughts stephen.. i don't expect an answer other than your batty.. but i have 40 years of experience under the hood ..

Running a diesel with excess air will snuff combustion but not run hot like gasoline. Running an excess of diesel will make the engine melt down. That is the importance of a pyrometer when tuning a diesel.

6.4 powerstroke is a Navistar built engine. There is whole story on why the 6.4 is the way it is and is a result of a dispute with Navistar over the 6.0, FoMoCo has produced and still produces excellent engines like the 5.0w, 5.8w, 5.0 coyote, 4.6, 300i6, 4.2, 460, 5.4.2v, 6.2, 6.7 6.8, 2.3, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0....etc etc, they all have made engines that have failed, it happens.

I must be doing something right 400,000 miles and counting. Egr delete, mini max tuner 5 inch exhaust. Almost always hooked to a 16,000lb trailer

I pull the cab its quicker you don't have to pull the radiators just disconnect the hoses ac lines main harnes and the steering coupler e brake cable and the harnes on the drivers side near brake cable all quick connectors sep ac lines and the trans cooler lines

You might want to tell your buddy to get rid of that 6-4 for it was one of the worst engine that Ford had that thing is got fuel problems that are unbelievable. My opinion the 6o Motors better after you put the ket in it 67 we're just starting to learn the problems it has.

You must live somewhere rust isn’t an issue. I wish I’d never had to cut every single bed bolt with a torch then have the captive nuts for cab mounts rust loose and have to torch them too. Turns 1.5 hours into 2 days real quick.
