As soon as this info came out I immediately started thinking worst case scenario, what would I do ??? For the most part I have snakes so I could easily supplement their UV with natural sunlight outside. Then I started thinking about how small my collection is compared to others. I also remembered the lizard keepers who need daily UV from bulbs and my stomach dropped. What about recsues, rehabs abd Zoos ? What will they use ? This is a disasterpiece and I pray the interested parties at the EPA truly listen and think logically, the animal market NEEDS those lights. I plan on reaching out to them with my thoughts and opinions and hopefully many others will as well.

We don't have reptiles but this could also be a disaster for my hens, our young hens grow up mostly outdoors after 3 weeks so they HAVE to have heating lamps and if they take them away we won't be able to raise the hundreds of young hens we currently raise!😮🤯🤯 😮

It both surprises me and doesn't surprise me that a government agency considers a sweeping chamge without all the facts. I think it is a wonderful thing that they actually sat with ZooMed to learn. This alone gives me hope for the reptile community. What scares me though, if we do still get to keep our bulbs, is a monopoly. If the Dept of Energy makes it too difficult to produce these specialty bulbs because of a bunch of redtape, the buyers will suffer because the competition of sellers will wither away and prices can be jacked up with less supply for the current and future demand.

I've seen people mention baby chicks, chickens during winter... calves, puppies. Never mind the reptiles and amphibians we're specifically trying to save. The video months ago that u stated the same issue I went to our local Home Depot and bought 20-250watt flood heat lamps for the winter in Texas for my sulcatas. Kevin ur awesome and so is Andy. I have found that over the last 5 years my basking lamps just don’t last very long before they blow so I’m going thru more of these bulbs so hearing that the governments are now trying to ban them is scary. Try looking at what New Zealand does for heating lamps. We’ve had light bulb changes and energy efficiency/restrictions changes years ago. We don’t have snakes (except for in the limited amount of zoos that we have) but we are allowed monitors and bearded dragons, geckos and frogs as pets. Our country also has native geckos and frogs.

I’m from Australia, and I have both a Coastal and Jungle Python who both need heat lamps; will this affect us here in the AU? I haven’t heard of this until now, and I even picked up a new light for my Jungle just this morning. My pythons are personal pets and not for any breeding or whatnot, and both their lamps are on timers. This is such a strange coincidence this video pops up in my feed *right* after getting a new bulb! Pet store owner didn’t mention anything like this so I assume AU won’t be affected? This worries me too. I have a blue tongue skink and a Uro. I had a beardie but she died 2 weeks ago. I wanted other lizards, but I won't because of this. There must be feedback from the reptile community who rely on these bulbs to keep their animals healthy. This unexpected ruling affects a large portion of our reptiles. We need action on the part of keepers and breeders and zoos as well. The suppliers of the bulbs will also be affected. Elvira is rather beautiful when you get used to her. You need to handle her as you would a snake. What does Elvira eat, what does her enclosure look like does she use a water dish? Perhaps when the time is right, Kevin can make a video about Elvira, the Scolopendra mint leg Centipede.

LONG POST WARNING! This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard in my life If the DOE knew anything or did any actual research or spoke to anybody who is in the profession of exotic keeping they would understand that these bulbs are CRITICAL for the life of these beautiful creatures we hold dear, banning them will cost the lives of countless exotic animals. I know the panic and stress of not having them as I forgot I had used my spare exo tera and both my spots blew at the same time (powersurge after power cut) at 2030 on a Saturday thankfully amazon to the rescue but my ASD was very unhappy and possibly could have died. This is the reality of what will happen if this ban goes into place, exotic shelters will be drowning in loved animals that can no longer be looked after and it hurts my brain hearing this bullshit.

Of course they're not efficient for lighting - THEY AREN'T USED FOR LIGHTING! It literally says "heat lamp" on the box. Just stupid. I hope zoos and rescues get loud and stay loud and get this fixed cuz it's going to harm so much animal welfare. And those of us caring for these animals privately need to get loud at our reps too. You do realize it's WAS the UNELECTED Swamp Creatures in these agencies and departments and NOT congress that have put out more than 350k statues and regulations on their own? Which isn't going to happen anymore with Chevron Deference being done away with by the Supreme Court. It's time to sue the DOE for their unconstitutional regulation and use the new ruling against this agency.

Are ceramics heat elements banned as well? I have snakes only and dont rally use actual light bulbs to head like a lot of people. Idk what you guys with animals that require actual light will do without them and i hope this isnt permanent

Red bulbs fall out side of color temp so not at this time. Those are considered party lights.

@@stevep6317Basically twenty years ago, it was thought most reptiles couldn’t see red light. The reality is that a reptile is being deprived of a dark nighttime if red bulbs are used at night, and also it doesn’t simulate a day/night cycle for your animal. Red bulbs won’t kill them, but it’s very likely that it’s unnatural and uncomfortable to live without a dark period (or a proper light period with no real natural colored daytime!)
