The fact that James managed to break the fourth wall and make meta-references while staying in character and maintaining the plot is a testament to just how entertaining these segments are. I await an SNL segment of Trump's conviction.

The skit started poorly until James Austin Johnson as Trump interrupted the proceedings with a barrage of brilliantly executed insults on each Republican candidate. The best SNL cold open in many a moon.

This is one of the best sketches they've done in a while. Awesome. It's not the subject matter that made it good - it was the writing. And the production staff and actors portraying the story. Nice little twists in there with James' monologue. Really good. I wish I knew who wrote this one.

Trump mentions all these people on TV but does he EVER talk about Johnson's impression? I don't follow what Trump says in all these appearances but Johnson not only does a great impression he's got some comic chops and some camaraderie with his fellow cast members.

Almost. He still manages to complete his sentences without interrupting himself more than the real Trump.

Yeah, that's what's so scary about JAJ's impression. It's too real. The Alec Baldwin one used the cartoonishness as a buffer so as to not upset people.
