I personally like to keep turned off biomas burners as backup for the pumps. In case if grid go off. You may additionally add water tanks with one under-clock refilling pump. So you could easily restart network if they you have surge. But in larger facilities it is most effective to keep one power plant off grid to power miners and pumps completely independently. This way you have almost no risk of critical failure. But it may not always be effective in smaller facilities.

Damn, I can't believe I've played this for several hundred hours without the vertical pipe alignment tricks showcased here. I've been eyeballing it this entire time. That alone is worth a subscription, but this series so far is an S-tier showcase and explanation of the early game mechanics! I do want to pass on one tip for your consideration. Since liquids can be rather finicky, I personally find it better for stability to have the main pipeline elevated above the inputs. This makes it so that the liquids always go down into the input, rather than up. What I do is make a pipeline perpendicular to and about half a foundation away from the input using the max height of the pipeline support. Then place vertical pipeline junctions on this main pipe aligned with the input, sort of like how you did in this video, and finish it off with connecting the bottom connection to the input (the max height support allows for a nice smooth curve on this pipe). With this setup, the short pipes feeding into the input are always full, even if the main pipe has some flow fluctuations.

If waiting for manifolds to fill tick you off too much, you can put those 4 portable miners on the pure coal node and hand fill the last 8 generators (or do 4 runs instead of 2 and fill all 16 before connecting generators to power.)
@LastKnight07277 күн бұрын
Another option is only to connect the belts after the machine fills. That way, the manifold is always working, and you don't get the start/stop of the machines. Same effect as using smart splitters to do an overflow manifold that feeds 1 machine and only fills the rest of the manifold if the line starts to back up.

Thank you for all your effort, your videos are great! I mentioned it before, but even an experienced Satisfactory player like me can learn little tidbits from videos like this, despite the beginner-friendly nature of the video. I especially like the cosmetics done in this episode, as they are very minimalistic but still both quite good and seemingly realistic. I feel you did a good job channeling that cosmetic design Coffee Stain uses in their promotional trailers. Looking forward to the next one!

I personally always build coal generators in sets of 8. 8 generators with 3 extractors matches exactly and takes 120 coal, so a tier 2 belt exactly. I do like the adjustment based on what you are using for input. I also flip the standby switch on the generators while they fill up with coal because I'm impatient with waiting for them to fill. They don't fill unless they are connected to power, but they will fill while on standby, so I will usually turn off the ones at the furthest end of the manifold since they are the ones that will flicker the most as they fill.

Thanks for the video and I'm sorry for your loss. Great tutorial, as always. Though there's one thing I like to do different: I usually turn off, or don't connect, the generators until all are full with both coal and water. Since the generators at the start of the manifold aren't conmsuming anything yet, it'll be a bit faster to fill all up. I'm not sure how much time it actually saves, but it does save me the anxiety of having to watch the power lines spike and fall 😅

If you properly utilize Fluid Buffers by putting them in line directly after the water extractors and higher then the height of the buildings that require water you can greatly reduce the number of pumps needed in the system as the only pumps needed will be the ones used to get the water to the Fluid Buffer height and you also give yourself a (lack of a better word) buffer that stores extra fluid incase of a power outage. I have mentioned this in the past on Darren's videos that deal with water and every single time he incorrectly assumes that I am talking about the exploit of having unlimited headlift by having all sources of water being connected to one extremely high fluid buffer while not taking into account water pipe sizes/tiers. That is 100% not what I am saying you should do. Each buffer should only receive an input of (at most) a full pipe, so for tier 1 pipes each full 300 should have its own buffer and for tier 2 pipes each full 600 should have its own fluid buffer. This will help save a lot of headaches with how fluids work in this game. I would also suggest that you always try to have full pipes, so if you have tier 1 pipes always try to have them being fed 300 water and if you have tier 2 always try to have them being fed 600 water. Each pipe segment wants to be full and if it isn't being feed enough for it to be full the water will tend to slosh back and forth. This is also another reason to have a buffer/water tower so that the pipes will always be fed from above. The basic thought behind this entire thing is it is always better for water to be fed from above but since you are building above the water you need some way for the water to be above what you are building. Yes you can do this without a buffer, but why would you not want a way to store extra water?

@moffch43195 күн бұрын
It’s a decision between connecting to power then turning to standby (which fills both coal and water,) or waiting to connect to a power pole (which only fills water, this is where you would want to hand fill coal.) I personally feel it’s faster to run along connecting to power than it is to ‘e’ machine and click standby, twice (once to pause, once to turn back on.) Everyone has to make their own choice.

Build the generators near water level straight in a row. A water pipe 6 meters away from the generators and 4 meters up will give plenty of room to run a coal manifold underneath. It look neat and no need to use pumps which are a waste of energy.
@WhatDarrenPlays4 күн бұрын
I’m ok with using 24MW of power on pumps, its really not that much. But you’re right overall, I thought about building totally flat, but didnt think it would look nice, and building with just a 6m roof seems like itd be a tiny bit claustrophobic to build and lay pipes and coal. But appreciate the suggestion anyways

It's possible to build a coal fired power plant using 3 water pumps and 8 generators with Mk1 pipes. The generators should be divided into two groups of 4 and one pump should be placed on the right, one pump in the middle and one pump on the left. The water from the middle pump will be distributed to both sides.

Hey Darren so glad to see you are back up again. It is always a pleasure watching your videos. I know the planning you put is way above what I do. I am sorry for your loss. Thanks for the upload.
@WhatDarrenPlays9 күн бұрын
I usually build an outer frame of the floor in a location before the episode when im planning. I’ll take a small group of machines like 6 generators and then look how much space it takes, then just work it out by mapping out where the rest would go if they were the same size. So 6 generators might be a 9x4 block, and I need 36 of them, so I make sure all blocks can fit inside a rectangle. I also knew that I would need 6 pipelines, so I left a gap of two foundations down the middle so 6 pipes could all fit (but I ended up building them over eachother anyways instead of next to eachother) So its a mixture of trial and error I do off screen and then generally just laying machines out on foundations and making sure they fit overall. To know they can fit, building that outer perimeter first allows me to work out the area inside the perimeter to know things will fit. Hope this somewhat helps!

Darren, What tool are you using to do the layouts of the buildings? Or is it just from experience you know that laying out 4 generators next to eachother will cover exactly 6 foundations? For me I do everything in-game and it's quite a struggle and a lot of placing down and deleting but it seems like you have a tool or at the very least some graph paper for figuring out 7x31 grid or whatever it is you're trying to do ahead of actually building it. Loving the content and you do a great job at explaining everything. I just don't see how it's luck when you do your factory layouts. You must have some sort of cheat sheet or blueprint before you go placing foundations down. -Cheers

To put it mildly, no, I did that initially and felt the map was on screen too much. I know it might not be the best, but you can always load my save and I've marked exactly every collectible I've got, and where I build. You could even just load it into satisfactory-calculator and have your game open at the same time so you can flip between them. But ultimately for this series, if people do want to play along, they'll have to do a little work themselves for things like that, but I give out saves, blueprints and show what I've done as much as I can. I showed almost everything in the last series and it was so slow the viewers just dropped off really fast. So I did try it that way first.

You said you wanted to make things simple but messed up the already simple math of coal per min for each node by making belt speed the deciding factor? How are you getting 270 coal from nodes without messing the numbers? Just following the node output Mk1 Miner in your case for a normal and pure would be 180 and soon after 360 when you get better belts. Which would make the 8:3 golden ratio work perfectly. I keep seeing this with youtubers. Instead of teaching newcomers the proper way to do coal with simple math. They go out of their way to mess things up just because they dont want to address the 300/min water flow limit. Not learning the proper way to do it was why I struggled so much with my first coal plant and my power kept tripping when I started the game a few weeks ago.
@WhatDarrenPlays8 күн бұрын
I disagree completely- by building to scope of the next belt speed, not only is it more efficient but its also easier to upgrade. Building 8 gens to 3 water extractors requires a specific layout for building, which imo is much more tricky for a newcomer than dealing with the clockspeed of your miner.
