Rescue dogs jump from a helicopter to save lives

I'm just confused... what is the point in training a dog to do water rescue. Dogs are not super strong swimmers and it seems like it'd be much smarter to have to humans do that job instead of human and dog.

My lab once rescued me from drowning And when i learned swimming Her 6 month old pup thought i was drowning and tried to save me with all his might ( he died in an accident when he was 9 months old ) i miss him so much Dogs are a blessing

This is my 16 month son’s favorite video. He can’t say “dog” or “helicopter” yet but he can sign them and asks every day for me to turn this on. Thank you!

I simply LOVE what these dogs do!! But, that owners\ trainers Haven't Trained their dogs to Swim and be lifted off the ground?? Is really naive on Owners\ Trainers part, I mean its Rescue after all !! 🤕

Truth be told as a member of a SAR team with a k-9 tandem component I agree wholeheartedly. Furthermore in my 12 plus years in this occupation I have never seen K-9's used in such a way or with such disregard for both the K-9's and rescuee's safety/survivibility. Any handler who has not completed certification or been given proper training prior to such exercises should not be allowed to participate PERIOD. Clearly that is not the case in his video, where obvious novice and intermediate K-9 tandems are taking part in said exercise, putting both in a dangerous position. For all intents and purposes it appears these are primarily civilian volunteers many of whom are not in the best physical shape and others who lack the proper certified training and real world experience to perform ANY SAR Op's which can have disastrous outcomes. There are several factors that can take a Rescue Operation (individual/s to be recued are still alive) to a Recovery Operation (The individual/s who were to be rescued are now deceased and the operation has transitioned to body recovery) in a short time. Sending inexperienced individuals out to do the job that truly calls for a professional is the height of ignorance and neglect on the part of both the incident commanders and the individual volunteer performing said task.

Seems to me like a waste. but what do I know. Sometimes these victims fight the rescuer out of fear. I guess the dog can bite em.. lol
