Anyone else notice the really cool thing with the music fading into different versions of each other based on what's going on? I imagine it's not much more than muting a few channels, but still, this on an NES game, and before LucasArts "pioneered" the idea the idea with Monkey Island 2 on the PC. Hell, it was a big deal in the last generation when it became fairly standard, but this is from 1990 :D

Wow, awesome. Brings back so many memories. I really love the "sneaking" phase where the music keeps quieting down when you hide, then it's louder as you break for it... And also the quiet of the sniper phase, really fun.

Yeah, stealth, sneaking, concealment, sniping, ingress through rappelling, 3rd person shooting, sometimes it looks like first person shooting, not shooting hostages. Did it go anything else ahead of its time?

Rescue: The Embassy Mission should be commended for trying something different and succeeding: it’s excellent, but with only one mission, the game lacks any real long-term playability.
@mariusamber32377 жыл бұрын
Rescue: The Embassy Mission was apparently pretty successful in Europe, on one of the computers I believe. There's also one other game with a similar theme called S.W.A.T. That one only came out in Japan though, and it's unfortunately super buggy...

I agree. It was a game I rented on occasion when nothing else was available. Even then I remember wishing there was more than one mission, or something to give it some depth, even if I didn't know what that meant at the time. Looking back, it's a pretty amazing game for the NES.
@gusdavid77985 жыл бұрын
Well, if you play like that... I mean in the nes era a lot of games would be rentals. Even the Mega Man games can be beat in less than 30 mins. Mario, Castlevania 1 and 3 et al must be beat in one sitting due to a lack of continue option. At least this game took the liberty of basically letting you play 3 mini games in one.

I remember it being just the right difficulty as a kid trying to win by not losing any swat guys or hostages and killing all the terrorists.

NintendoComplete is really boss at this. It’s not as easy to win on the highest difficulty level and hardest mission. You basically need everyone, snipers need to take out as many baddies as they can to ease going into the building. The fact that he got all snipers into position and didn’t lose one is quite a feat in-of-itself for this game. The fact that Ron didn’t get shot is also quite impressive, it probably helped that he eliminated some of the baddies with the snipers before going in.

Not sure why this came up as a recommendation in 2024. However this is just a port of Hostages from The Amiga 500 which came out 2 years earlier in 1988. I agree that the game was brilliant and way ahead of it’s time but it’s the Amiga original version that should be the most fondly remembered. I recognised it straight away by the music.

Just bought this game today. Never owned it before but have always been intrigued by the screenshots and overall ad that was featured in the pamphlet that was handed out to attendees from the 1990 Nintendo World Championships. That said, this game was waaaaaay ahead of its time as it seems to have more in common with modern games than NES. Kemco just lacked the technology for their true visions.

What the fuck ever. I had this game growing up and on that difficulty ONE bullet kills you. Those guys in the building and the spotlights don't give you 3 or 4 shots. I've somersaulted through enough spotlights and you don't get far.

From a technical standpoint, this game was great. Very innovative. It set the stage for games like Rainbow Six. Though that is kind of where it ends for the positives. The game isn't exactly fun when looking at the sum of its parts. I enjoyed it as a kid, but it is a frustrating game and has low replayability.

Yeah, even though it's just the one mission you get to try it with a couple of different light patterns, try to keep everybody alive, lower difficulties have less enemies and actually show up on the radar in the building... it's not like most players can just buy the game and do what Complete here just did.
