Early in the morning, while on patrol at Pelican Point, Namibia, Antoine and Naude spotted a rather large male Cape Fur Seal with a deep line around his neck, and a long piece of fishing line trailing behind him.
The grabbed the net and managed to catch him before he made it to the water. They had a problem, in the sense that this seal opened his mouth as he entered the net and his jaw got stuck on his way in, so they had to release him and catch him again, getting him seated correctly on the second attempt. The line was so tight that they had to use 2 Leatherman Raptor tools - one to extrude the line and another to cut it. On the video you can actually hear how the animal is struggling to breathe.
As soon as the line was cut he was visibly relieved, and even regained enough energy to chase Antoine once he was free! 🦭
