I had a bad leak problem for a half hour on my AirSAense 11 because the water reservoir was not seated flush (a human error), and it was impossible to see that with the naked eye. Powered on, air was blowing like wild from the border between tank and base unit. But the big heads-up that something was wrong was the awful noise - like a jet engine in the bedroom. People should become familiar with the noise level from their AirSense under normal, correct conditions. They will be able to troubleshoot faster than I was when a leak at the machine is a problem. Your vid demonstrated that by recording the air noise near the known fault. Nice.

My first time putting the water tank on my Aircurve 11 did the same thing. Loud noise- very obvious it was leaking. After the first time, I more carefully seat the water tank and have had no more problems with that. However, I am still having massive leaks due to the climate hose connection being dislodged as mentioned in this video! I will try this temporary fix but I agree with others - this is a hardware problem not a software problem.
@MGuldbrand3 ай бұрын
Hi I have had mine for 3 weeks now and found out the hard way that the water tank should be closed rather swift. If I close mine very gently because I try to prevent spillage, then it will go into high leak mode and stop. To fix it I just open it 1 cm. and "slam" it in. Then the error is gone. Maybe the lips on the connector piece should have some water based lubrication to make a better seal?

I use the 11 through VA also, it’s been a different adjustment to use the 11, it doesn’t function the same, for me I had to have higher pressure on my 11 as opposed to the airsense 10, I was minimum pressure 9.0 on the airsense 10, I have have to have it at minimum of 12.0 on the airsense 11, otherwise I feel like I’m suffocating.

I don't understand how most manufacturer are regressing these days with their new product instead of improving ! Why the hell didn't they keep the old 90 degrees elbow like on the Resmed 10 !? This straight tube at the rear of the resmed 11 doesn't make any sense !
@AlexKasper7 ай бұрын
The explanation I was given is water accumulated in a little area by the 90 deg elbow of the AS10, and that's why is straight on the AS11. I think the AS10 connection is superior. I just go back to a AS10 and returned a AS11 just after a week (mostly due to being noisier).

I blame medical insurance for all this or 'the gravy train' as old mate Peter Farrell (founder of ResMed) put it in a podcast recently. It's put a cap on the prices, income is relatively fixed and as such the penny pinchers go to work to reduce costs to boost profitability / margins. That's my take anyway. You look at Apple and each year the iphone costs more, i feel that CPAP machines have been the same price for 15+ Years! The Gravy Train has destroyed this whole industry

Great video but let’s think about this … if the hose truly leaks then the firmware software update would only overwrite the benchmarks to enable and allow the air leak from the hose to continue to operate but with air loss - if the hose leaks then the firmware update is just an effort to cover it up temporarily or until they can recall them the firmware is not causing the physical disconnection loss of air or air gap issue
@joecutro73187 ай бұрын
Spot on. That's why I'm saying I'll believe the OTA fix when I see it. I'm actually hoping it's a hose design defect. At least that would be easier to remedy. Because I never use humidification, Resmed customer service advised to turn off humidification altogether as a short-term fix while they're sorting out the alleged firmware issue. One problem, I tried including the clinical menu, and I nor the DME provider can provide a way to turn it off without disabling the auto feature on the hose, so it's a useless workaround and amounts to more tail-chasing nonsense. 🙄🤷🏻♂️

Hi! I'm a equipment specialist for a DME and we've been dealing with these heating issues for MONTHS! we've sent back so many machines since the season started to change last nov 2023. as one of the RT's in your vid commented, at first it came back with no issues found, but later on, about 50/50 of machines were replaced with new, others had PCB's and chassis assemblys replaced. We've had about 60% success rate with changing climate control mode to manual, but the tubing is an interesting find that we may look into for future cases. this has been a struggle to say the least. but thank you for your help and insight.

Hey, Uncle Nikko! To solve your leak problem with the hose connection, just refer everyone to the wall-mounted holder for the unit you recommended a few months ago. I bought it as soon as I saw your video, and I have never looked back. That wall-mounted holder has a U-shaped "hook" that holds the hose in a secure fixed position, such that the hose cannot move at all from the connection at the unit to that hook holder. From the hook to wherever you are sleeping, you can move around however much you want, because the hose will only move from your face to the hook holder (there is never enough tension to dislodge the hose from the hook holder and thereby pull the hose from its connection at the unit). Hope this helps. All the best.
@CPAPReviews7 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, yeah there's probably a few little 'bandaid' solutions for the problem as there seems to be for other issues with this device. I guess for me it's disappointing that after 30 years making these air pumps we still have to find work arounds for poor designs.

@CPAPReviews Wow! It is a special privilege to receive your response as I so appreciate your channel and commentary. I could not agree with you more. I am in Canada. I used a Dreamstation and absolutely loved it (I didn't know about the recall until it was too late and after it damaged my nose for a long time with watery blisters -- once the foam disintigrated it was okay again -- jeesh!). The design and function of that unit was otherwise outstanding, though. Upgraded to a Resmed 11 and quite pleased, but I have observed the same problems as you in your various broadcasts. Also, ever since using this unit, I seem fairly often to sleep with my mouth open for some reason whereas I never did that before (wake up with a parched mouth and throat). Why, oh why, can't this industry make practical, reliable, high-quality, long-lasting, and well-designed units (like ones with water tanks that are easy and quick to fill) for something as important as sleep?!?! Keep up your fantastic shows, Uncle Nikko, and thank you for caring.

Thank you! I have had this happen and usually it is after I fill the tank and i first put the mask on: and it won't start when I breathe in that first breath. I have usually re insert the water tub and re-start it. I probably grab the hose fitting and it resets the fitting. I have never noticed a warning message, Probably my biggest gripe about the 11 is the small air filter. When I first saw it I said you gotta be kidding. I always get a warning if i go over the two suggested weeks. I worked in equipment maintenance for many years. Air, or rather vacuum pumps way overheat if you starve them at all for air! If you notice the machines are rated for a maximum of 8500 feet elevation. If you starve the pump at all; and let's say you're like me at 4,500 feet. You will quickly take the machine above its rated altitude and it will overheat the turbine. The s9 and the s 10 have a way better size air filter. I asked my supplier to get me a new hose fitting on the rear of my machine as it mates with the water tank with a silicone surface which flattens out over time. I got an I don't know what that fitting is when i asked the question. So maybe that needs to be a standard replacement part with the tank.

Thanks for bringing this up Nick. Super important info. With that said, this should not be a difficult issue to manage. As you said, simply position the unit so the tube can extend freely and directly back from the unit before bending towards the bed. I get that some people might have their unit a bit further away causing them to stretch their tube to it's full length, thus creating the lateral pressure but it should be fairly easy to adjust furniture and such to adjust. Absolutely ResMed should fix this but now that (thanks to you) everyone knows about the problem it should be an easy fix.

No error messages but I did see some of the pulling on the hose in its insertion mount which goes to my bed via a double hook holder that I got on Amazon which is attached to my headboard. The larger bottom hook is for the hose itself and the smaller top hook is usually for hanging up the mask. After seeing this I used the hooks to make a reverse loop with the hose then going to the bed. Fortunately the hose with my F40 mask's attaching hose is long enough to cover my sleep area. It relieved enough pressure on the hose in its CPAP mount so that it's pretty stable.

The feedback from the Canadian RT is alarming. The “update” is, in my opinion, going to be an effort to dumb down the machine’s response to leaks so it won’t shut down via auto stop. This is probably due to the inability to get a newly designed hose together in an expeditious manner. I hope it works for the sake of the CPAPer’s out there. ResMed should consider moving that hose to the front of the machine so the consumer gets the desired results they expect, a simple and effective machine that blows air as prescribed. Removing the swivel on the rear of the machine is a cost cutting effort to maximize the use of their hoses and all the while, ensuring the inferiority of the hose.

So I don't use the auto-off feature because it shuts off too quickly and I don't like having to restart the ramp if I get up in the middle of the night just to use the bathroom. I also like to let the machine run full bore for a few minutes when I take the mask off in the morning just to air out the line from any condensation. Occasionally I've forgotten about it and left the machine running all day long. I've never received the heater warning. What's more, even when I leave the machine running and the humidifier tank runs dry, there is no safety shutoff to turn off the heater. I'm not sure if this lack of heater shutoff is new since the April firmware update, but it presents a significant fire hazard. I have a feeling that maybe ResMed "fixed" the leaky hose connection problem by just turning off the safety feature entirely. I've hooked my 11 up to a smart outlet with a monitor to alert me if I forget about it again, with the ability to remotely or automatically cut power before the heated hose catches fire. Auto-Off would be preferable, but since I can't configure it with something like a 10 minute delay my smart outlet will have to take over.

For about 50 cents you can go to any home improvement store like Home Depot in the sates and get a 90 degree PVC connector and stick it in the back of the machine and attach your hose.

I have my hose wrapped around the back of my large side lamp, a small carabiner clip on the hose, and a bungee cord with dollar store S hook around the lamp to hold the hose there. Keeps it pointing straight out of the machine. For the movement, I'm thinking 2 velcro strips wrapped on either side around the machine and maybe some more to hold it laterally. Undo lateral strip for hose cleaning. Easier than duct tape. Unfortunately I can't travel with my big lamp 😂😢.

I am curious that this Resmed error message using the Climate Air tubing may have increased my leak rate. I've had my AirSense 11 for 18 months. Had the AirSense 10 prior for about 6 years. Used the Climate Air tubing with both CPAPs. I used the Resmed P10 mask for several years and noticed my leak rate on the daily reports seemed to be high. Saw a video about a year ago for the Brevida pillow mask and decided to buy it. It made a huge difference in reducing my leak rate. Leak rates have been minimal to none. Recently, I noticed my leak rates have increased significantly. Reviewed the past 4 months reports and saw the leak rate jumped in Feb. Haven't changed anything and have not seen the error message on my CPAP. My tube setting is 74°, humidity of 3. The tubing is secure and does not twist from side to side. Headgear, tubing and pillow mask are good. Could Resmed have changed the algorithm around the Feb timeframe?

After listening to CPAP Reviews and others, and verifying that I was to be sent a new Airsense11, with all it's problems, I WILL be requesting a New Airsense 10. My Airsense 10 has NEVER given me any problems, and it looks to be so much easier to use, why would I put myself through all the hassle of the Airsense 11. Thank you very much for your reviews. Oh wow, I've had the leak error happen twice in the last 6 weeks or so. But I thought I just wasn't putting the hose back in all the way- I rinse my hose and mask every morning, hang it and let it air dry all day and then plug everything back in at bedtime. The hose I'm using right just came in the every three month restock from my supplier.
@RevvyTone7 ай бұрын
All this is freaking me out because I'm wondering, even though in the survey I said I only got the error 3 times over a few month period, I'm wondering if the heater isn't totally working all the time, and I haven't noticed because there's sort of been a confluence of things going on with my health care. I was getting sinus headaches around the same time (winter here in detroit and I have radiators in my old house) and the reservoir was almost totally dry (and some morning's fully dry) by morning. So I but a cheap cold water humidifier in my bedroom to help reduce the overall dryness. And now most mornings the room humidifier is 3/4ths of the way down, and the CPAP reservoir is usually only 1/3rd or 1/2 down, today the reservoir was barely down. I also started using flonaise on dr's orders around the same time too, both morning and night. And for example right now I'm at work and my nose is dry and itchy, and attributed it to the flonaise but I'm wondering was the inline humidifier/hose issues.

@joecutro73187 ай бұрын
@CPAPReviews If the part that surprises you is that they wouldn't replace the A11 with an A10, it was actually my DME provider, Performance Home Medical in WA USA, not Resmed who refused it. They said they could not because it was no longer under a month-to-month rental agreement and Resmed would only honor a like for like exchange. The reason I was forced to buy out my rental agreement is another sad tale of woe. In my last year of employment before retirement, my company changed insurance providers and then I switched to Medicare which resulted in having to start the rental clock 3x (even though I had met my high deductible before the first insurance company change and have been successfully on CPAP therapy for +20 years) due to the proprietary manner in which insurance agreements are constructed. Could be worse, but I fell through some pretty large cracks in the US system on this go around. All that for a disappointing design performance from Resmed. 🙄🤷🏻♂️

@CPAPReviews7 ай бұрын
you understand correctly. I mean, you could have the screen facing you and the tubing coming over the top of the device but you just don't want any side-to-side tension on the tube because it doesn't take much force to pop a side out. You could of course use some duct tape or something else to lock it in. Cheers

For all the 'technological wonder' of these machines and their hoses and masks, not to mention their EXPENSE, I'm seeing in my mind's eye lots of duct tape holding down a gentle curve in the tubing going TOWARDS the front of the machine. Why a breathing tube would come STRAIGHT OUT THE BACK of a cpap is stupefying-- just a poor design. Compare this to the Dreamstation 1-- a great design. At least offer an angled adaptor to help GENTLY bring the hose forward toward the user. This is simply a design flaw.

Hi Nick, I just found you while searching for Aircurve 11 ASV quality issues. In your "I think I found a big AirCurve 11 problem" post, you highlighted a post by a follower (Hi @Boricua3145!), who commented that he went to the Aircurve 11 after his 10 started to squeal, I decided to reach out - as this is my issue! I recently upgraded to the 11 after nearly 5 years on my Aircurve 10 ASV because it had started to squeal and was just months out of warranty. Trouble is, my brand new Aircurve 11 also squealed. After some back and forth with my DME, we agreed to send it back to Resmed for evaluation. They sent me a replacement (brand new) with the comment "Yes it had a problem". That's it. But then the second unit started to squeal and now my third unit is also squealing. Have you seen this reported? I'll continue the search but I confess to being very concerned about sending back yet another machine, with little or no feedback from Resmed. Being a mechanical guy, I'm betting it is some seal on the blower, as the squeals sound like a high pitched leak noise, which wakes me just as I am aware of a pressure surge, probably as I stop breathing. I believe the leaks coincide with back pressure from my innate resistance, causing a high pressure surge, and of course the leak back upstream, somewhere inside the machine. I'd love to have your thoughts! Rgds, JP

This is a hardware issue for sure you can see it with your video, no software will fix that, it may help with other issues but this is an easy fix for Resmed just make the little bit that sticks out on the elbow longer which makes it more rigid. Therefore it won’t pop out of place. It will be interesting to see if Resmed fix this issue quick or just ignore it knowing they don’t have much competition out there now.

Hi Nick and anyone else, I first got the heating error issue after a month or two of use in Oct 2023. It was sporadic at first but increased in frequency and in the last month is now basically every night. My hose was at right angles and coming loose as in the video but I didn't think this was always the explanation. Since rotating and fixing in place with tape so I'm 100% sure the connection is not the issue, I still get the error. With automatic and manual humidity settings. Just want to confirm that these are two separate issues (1. Loose hose and 2. Unknown Software error?) resulting in the same error report and the ResMed update is supposedly for the 2nd case. Apart from the solutions mentioned, are there any other ideas? Has the firmware update been pushed or is there an Eta, rumoured or otherwise?

As stated in previous posts, the machine is a total pos. I pointed out the tubbing problem a long time ago. I also complained about the humidifier, and I also complained about crazy algorithms that actually cause apneas. There are so many things wrong with this machine, it really should be recalled and taken off the market. As for the hose causing leaks, I fixed mine with a big elastic band. I rapped the band a few times around the hose where it connects and then loop the elastic around the front of the machine. That holds it tight. Now if I could only figure out when the machine just turns off in the middle of the night for no reason, leaving me gasping for air. As I stated many times before, the machine is total pos.

The problem I'm having with my airsense 11 I think it's even worse it's actually overheating without any warning, it's now happened twice in a week, the water chamber for some reason is drying up and the machine is over heating and you end up breathing in strong plastic fumes it's horrendous. It did it again this morning, this time I was thankfully awake and I was able to pull the mask off my face immediately and not breathe in the plastic fumes.
@CPAPReviews20 сағат бұрын
Yeah it's a big problem. There needs to be a thermal fuse that shuts off the heater plate if/when it runs dry. This can't be good for the longevity of the water chamber either.
