I actually started painting after playing with an apple pencil and the Artpack app, which i still love because it’s great for textured tools like getting a real 3d impasto effect with a palette knife. I do still go back to it when i’ve got too hung up on where a painting has got to and I can’t be bold enough with my real world changes. Considering it was all of about a tenner, it’s an incredible tool.

Hey Kate! I haven't heard of Artpack before. Just had a look, but couldn't find it online. Would you mind sharing a link? Real world changes are definitely more scary! And I love that you can work in layers and try different options and compare them that way.

I really like your painting/creation , with darker shades , that has a rather square shaped canvas that you began at 10:51 mins . This creation has depth and a landscape feel to it . Wonderful ! Merci Jeannine . So

My goodness, I'm such a ludite and wouldn't know where to start with this helpful tool! It's really interesting to see how technology can support one's creative practice. I can certainly see the benefits. Thanks for sharing.

You could also simply draw small tumbnails and to a few tiny test paintings. Takes more time but also works!

Fabulous! I do use an app to change colours and test things out but it’s been so long since I picked up a brush I can’t remember which one I use.

Love this Janine. I’ve never thought of it before! will definitely help my anxiety when adding colours on my canvas 😅. One question tho, you use water to dilute your paint, aren’t you concerned about it altering the archival process?

Thanks, Vanessa! It definitely helps with painting anxiety 😄. I try not to mix too much water with my paint, or use flow medium and water is I want it diluted more. And once other layers are on top (or gloss medium) I think it's not a problem.
