A person cannot be excellent without rest.
Human beings are made in God's image. We are also made for love, for labor, and for leisure. Since the Fall, these gifts have become distorted in our hearts and we have to fight for the ability to love well, to labor well, and even to leisure well. But we must strive to rest well if we are going to be the people God has made and redeemed us to be.
If you would like to support Ascension Presents, send us a Super Chat / Super Sticker in the chatbox or send us a financial gift ( tinyurl.com/2m... ). Your support helps us provide you with the Catholic faith formation media you know and love. Thank you!
If you would also like to make a donation to the Newman Catholic Campus Ministries at the University of Minnesota Duluth, you can donate here: bulldogcatholi...
Finally, we also ask you to continue supporting your local parishes. Thank you and God bless you!

Therese! I hear you! It is a journey that we all go on, and some people need to take a long road to overcoming it! May I offer a bit of insight, as a fellow chronic procrastinator? I have learned about myself that I tend to approach seemingly unsolvable problems with the idea that I will someday achieve excellence in (insert problem here). “Someday I’ll crack the code and learn how to not procrastinate!” But I make -progress- in these areas when I change my inner monologue to something more like “what can I do -right now- to be 10% better at staying on task?” I might not ever conquer chronic procrastination. But can get better. I will pray for you, too. The Good Shepherd is blessing us abundantly.

My Notes: God made us for Love, Labor, and Leisure. Learn to rest don’t quit. On the sabbath learn to worship and rest. Rest is not inactivity. On the sabbath, you can do anything that declares I am not a slave to the world. Leisure requires an attitude of abundance. Pray about what will be an ideal day of rest for you? When Jesus says come away with me and rest for a while; the disciples didn't stay resting but they did rest. If your rest day gets interrupted its okay. Rest doesn't mean the entire day, set a time. Jesus Christ is our peace.♡

I’m praying for you too and I hope you do receive some hugs and love. I’m getting up there in years too. One thing that I started doing when I was alone for a time when I had covid has stayed with me - in my solitude, I prayed for children who were experiencing loss or overwhelming sorrow, for prisoners, for people in other countries who were lonely or dying alone. I pictured myself going to them, putting my arms around them, sitting on the edge of their bed, just being with them. I knew that I was still in my room, but I asked Our Lady to be there and comfort those who needed her. I truly was never alone. In all the difficult times, I share with someone else who is experiencing what I am and more.

Thank you for this excellent homily! It is so easy to get caught up in activities that we neglect our health. For example, musicians, especially classical musicians, are taught to strive for perfection and that "practice makes perfect." As a result, musicians can have a continuous phrase going through their minds that says "I really should be practicing". But too much practice makes thing worse, not better. The truth is that rest can improve performance skills, not reduce them. Thank you!

I feel like I’m getting mixed messages here. I would love to rest on Sunday or do yard work, or some other work but thought I couldn’t. A day at the lake with Gods beauty all around and just like the old days, canoeing in the early morning with my husband when the lake is like glass and quiet and all you hear is the that gentle splash when the ores meet the water.

Profound! I was just telling the kids that I found more joy in working than planning leisure because growing up leisure rarely happened; even if it was planned, fun activities were often canceled. Now, as an adult, I don't have an abundance mentality that leisure is wholesome and worthwhile. I need to plan next Sunday with something fun and relaxing in mind. Until then, joy in work 💪

The knowledge WAS that theres more than one of my soul who went to Hell in the apocolypse, but equally theres more than one of me that decided their country should religious. If its true it was given as bad karma, then not only did I finish that karma with that aceing move, but also that it would take many separate soul expressions to pull this off. It makes me so f ing protected, because I aced it. Like a child with really only a limited capacity to do the job.

I love Fr Mike. His Homilies really encourage me. For the past several weeks they have been interrupted with Google Ads. The first ad today, that I was lucky enough to view was for WP Engine. One of my clients uses this, so I am sure this is why I am seeing this. Not Relevant. The second was to buy a new amazing car. I will tell you directly that I really dislike these interruptions. I hope that at the least Fr Mike gets a little money from these ads but to be honest, the ads are what I am trying to get away from. Hopefully, someone is listening.

My day of rest would be boring. I am alone and have no family. I am alone every evening during the school year and every weekend. Summers are the worst with no one to talk to as everyone busy with their families. If I didn't do chores or errands on Sunday what would rest be? Watching TV? Sick of that. No fun doing anything by yourself when that is just your norm! Isolation breeds insanity believe me. My rest comes every evening watching TV and then sleep - every day is work.
