Restoring metal trim with Ceramic?

Mercedes have a well known problem with exterior window trims that get easily damaged from chemicals, rain....generally being outside. All the other videos I've found that relate to restoring them involves polishing...but can it be improved just by using a ceramic? I'm putting Infinity Wax Synergy Lite V2, Synergy 2 and Gyeon Trim up against each other.

Thanks Bri! I felt the same, it's been bugging me for ages and polishing them would change the look. The choice of material from Merc is terrible, I've seen these been absolutely destroyed by scratch and shine tfr.

Hi Adrian, just a quick thank you for this excellent tip. I had some old KKD Sistal knocking around and applied this to the chrome trim on my 330i. Turned out great 👍👍👍

Thanks Llama man 😀 This seems to be a Mercedes thing with bad chrome trims. I have detail several and coated the trim with Gyeon CanCoat Evo, it seems to work ok.

I didn't think about trying can coat, I have some of that left too! Hellish trims aren't they, I'm just glad I don't have the side steps!

Good demo, I could clearly see where the different products were. I'm curious about the science behind using a ceramic coating to restore trims etc whether they are metal or black plastic.

That's a good question. I don't know where answer sadly, I imagine it must be something to do with how it puts a layer on that fills marginally, and that in turn helps reflect light differently, so everything looks a bit sharper. And I guess that filling ability also makes it look "wet".

When it comes to ceramic trim dressings, I really find that Gyeon Trim is way better than the Gtechniq one (easier on, better look etc), I should see what other options are out there. I've got to do the rest of the car now though, I'm tempted not do any levelling buff off now, just leave it an hour and then gently buff.

A good test again, I wonder how the Infinity wax ceramic wheel coating would perform ? I've got some left after coating my wheels I might just give it a try.

It's funny you mention that, because I've got the same coating and I'm about to do my wheels, but one of them is going to be 50/50 with Synergy 2 in order test the marketing claims that you need a wheel specific coating. I believe you do, but I want to test it out to see! As such, I'll have some left so I'll get try doing it on the trim too.

I have a 2013 A8 and the trim looks terrible water marked and possibly other marks what can you use to polish it ? Metal polish ? I’m not even sure what material it is.

That's the problem! You can polish it, but tbh I'd give this a go before trying that.
